Coal/Coal Miners in WVa -3rd/4th grade reading level

Hi- I teach a 8th grade resouce classroom in the western panhandle of WVa. Late in September we're taking a 5 hr bus trip (groan) to the Beckley coal mines. As a unit we're to read about coal, coal mines,coal miners ect.The reading level is approximately 3rd or 4th grade.Does anybody have any titles they can reccommend?
