OK, don't think about this too hard or too mathematically!! It's not algebra, it was for 4th and 5th graders!!! H is a number, a is a number, and o is a number. NOTHING MORE!!!!!!! It's not hard unless you over think it!!!1

ha + ha + ha + ha = oh

what is h?
a?
o?

message 2: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) I must be thinking about this wrong. Because there seems to be many possible answers.

message 3: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 25, 2009 07:02AM) (new)

nope, there's only 1.
and don't think multiplication. Don't think of it as h times a. ha is a 2 digit number, as is oh.
Every adult in my family that I've shown it to didn't get the answer because they were thinking too hard. It's not algebra.

That makes sense. Still, if you multiply h and a, there will be a lot of answers that would be equal to o times h.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

it's not multiplying though.
it's so simple it's hard.

I see. Tricking people to think that ha is two numbers multiplied and not thinking of it as a two digit number. Very clever.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

so...
anyone know?

message 8: by Joon, Math genius (new)

Joon (JoonChang) | 67 comments Mod
None of the numbers are the same right?

message 9: by Joon, Math genius (new)

Joon (JoonChang) | 67 comments Mod
In that case:
h=2
a=3
o=9
Tell me I'm right.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

yep!
It's so easy that when you think about it (after taking algebra), it suddenly becomes difficult!

message 11: by Joon, Math genius (new)

Joon (JoonChang) | 67 comments Mod
I know. I felt pretty dumb when I figured it out.

message 12: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) I figured it out this morning, but just didn't have time to post it! Anyway, there are still other possibilities, but this one is the only one in which they are all natural numbers. You could use fractions:

h=2
a=0.5
o=8
(there are others as well)

They could all just be 0s:

h=0
a=0
o=0

or it could be:

h=0
a=5
o=2

Anyway, this:

h=2
a=3
o=9

is the most logical answer.

message 13: by Joon, Math genius (new)

Joon (JoonChang) | 67 comments Mod
That is the most logical answer. That is why I put it.

message 14: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) Yep, it definitely is. That's a cool problem!

I just wish I could hurry up and learn geometry.

message 17: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments You might know this but it took me AGES to figure out. So you need to find the next line in this sequence:

1
11
21
1211
111221
312211
13112221
1113213211
31131211131221
13211311123113112211
11131221133112132113212221
3113112221232112111312211312113211
1321132132111213122112311311222113111221131221

Can you figure it out??

message 18: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments Aha! No one can beat the almighty power of this puzzle.....i'll give you the next line if it will help!

message 19: by Joon, Math genius (new)

Joon (JoonChang) | 67 comments Mod
I have a hunch, but I need more time.

message 20: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) Yep, I need to stare at it longer. =)

message 21: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments lol it's so obvious but i couldn't guess i had to be told what it was.....it's nothing really that can be worked out. I know it doesn't make sense but it is top!!

message 22: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments Do you wanna know the answer?
x

message 23: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) I guess...

message 24: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments yes......

message 25: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) What do you mean, "it is top!!"?

I meant, I guess, as in: I guess you can just tell us the answer.

message 26: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments i meant is is really good, thats what it is top means! lol.

Ok so you just describe what you see on the line above.

so if there is 1 it's one 1 you write 11
then there are two 1's so it's 21

you can go on forever doing this!

message 27: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) *stares openmouthed* WOW! That's so cool!

So the next line would be:
11131221131211131231121113112221121321132132211331222113112211?

message 28: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments Yeah!
I never guessed when i was first told, when i found out i was like wow! It's so easy its hard lol.

Are you from America??

message 29: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) Yes, I am.

Yep, it's so easy its hard! =D

message 30: by Nicolle (last edited Feb 23, 2009 12:01PM) (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments lol what time is it??

It makes you feel quite thick lol

message 31: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) It's totally cool though! lol

Um...time to eat. =)

message 32: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle | 43 comments hehe...chicken :P

message 33: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) =P =D

Jin | 22 comments hi i am back...

ummm
try this one

10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 22, 24, 31, 100, 121.....

find next number

message 35: by Elaine (last edited Jul 30, 2009 08:34AM) (new)

Elaine (caladhiel) ....tricky....*tries to think*....

message 36: by Hassan (new)

Hassan Mohamed | 1 comments Hi,

I think it will be 144 (12*12) as it can state the first 12 numbers and the last 12 numbers are the square of the corresponding ones. 100 = 10^2 and 121 = 11^2.

Hope it's correct.
