Sorry about the early loss of your father, Werner. How old were you then?

It's funny about the way we remember where we've lived. Each place holds a distinct "atmosphere". More or less, I've lived in 3 different places in NYS, each for about 25 years. I really can't say which place had the most influence on me. They were just places. I remember with fondness the years when I was single and lived home with my immediate family. Then there are the "married with children years", hectic but precious. Then there are the "empty nest" years with all kinds of adjustments.

Right now (this minute) seems the most peaceful... in our little vacation home near the lake, and with my husband, now winding the grandfather clock from my childhood. I've come full circle.

"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive at where we started
And know the place for the first time."

Thanks, Joy. I was six months old at the time. My maternal grandfather died in the same week, so I never actually knew either one of them.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) That's very sad, Werner. It must have been heart-breaking for everyone. It reminds us to count our blessings when our parents and grandparents live long lives.

Werner | 2707 comments Joy wrote: "It reminds us to count our blessings when our parents and grandparents live long lives." That's very true, Joy! We should be grateful for every day that we're able to have them.

Werner | 2707 comments Charly wrote: "Its fun to see what others are reading."

I absolutely agree! A Goodreads feature that might be of interest: even if not everyone gets around to posting about what he/she is currently reading, if you click on the "Members" link for this group (https://www.goodreads.com/group/13500... ), beside each name, the program will automatically show the last book added to the person's "currently reading" shelf. (Of course, some people may be reading more than one book....) The Members link will work that way in all groups.

Yvonne | 138 comments *comes in, looks around and decides this looks like a nice place to have a cup of cacao and discuss books*

Hi everyone. I'm Yvonne and have recently begun branching out with my good reads account to find likeminded book worms and fun discussions.

I love reading classics but have been reading a lot more modern works as of late. Mostly graphic novels for fun quick reading during the school year.

I am a 2nd year college student working towards an accounting degree. So both money and time are often tight when it comes to reading.

Looking forward to getting to know some good people! *Holds up Cocoa mug in a toast*

Yvonne | 138 comments Thank you so very much for the warm welcome, and I will most certainly enjoy sitting by that wonderful fire.

that's quite an ambitious challenge, I'll see about helping you out if I can.

message 164: by Werner (new)

Werner | 2707 comments Yvonne, welcome to our group; we're glad to have you with us! Just make yourself at home, browse our discussion board, and join in the conversation wherever you like!

Laura-Lee (lauraleewashere) | 7 comments I don't get online often but I still believe this is the BEST website. Especially for any hardcore "bookworm".
I LOVE the name "LitWit". Any time I see words played with in such a creative way it gives me a chuckle and little thrill. I'm also a sucker for a good pun!
I've been doing some browsing and know I'm out of my league here but I will enjoy reading what others write and ask you (in advance) to forgive me for every time I put my foot in my mouth, which can happen incredibly often.

I've been an active follower of Jesus for 38 years but love to get pushed out of my "comfort zone" by the ideas and ideals of all sorts of different people.

So, in short, (which is rarely how I express myself) I'm just happy to be part of this group.

Sincerely, Laura-Lee

message 167: by Werner (new)

Werner | 2707 comments Laura-Lee, welcome to our group; I'm so glad you accepted my invitation to join! (And you're not out of your league here at all.)

Laura-Lee and I met (online) through Goodreads, and we've been Internet friends for years. She's Canadian, a Stephen Lawhead fan, and an all-around swell person!

message 168: by Laura-Lee (new)

Laura-Lee (lauraleewashere) | 7 comments I think I have received the nicest Welcomes here at this group than I have from any other place I've joined on the Internet throughout the years.

What a bunch of Sweetie-Pies! (with Werner Lind leading the pack).

BTW, my cat, MONTY, has literally learned how to use the touchpad and function keys on my lap top. So, if you suddenly see something bizarre inserted, (for ex: "the bottom of my dish is visible. DO SOMETHING") you'll know it's not actually me).
Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. ;-)
Love L-L

message 169: by Werner (new)

Werner | 2707 comments Give our best wishes to Monty, Laura-Lee! (We'll consider him an honorary group member. :-) )

message 173: by Matt (new)

Matt Stucky Hello all! I am new to GR and am looking for a group to occasionally discuss some of the books I read with. I go back and forth between reading and walking in what little free time I have with two young ones at home. I'll read anything from the Ancient Greeks to Stephen King to Thomas More, the Lombard Laws, and Stephen Hawking. I'm hoping to meet some others who may have some of the same reading interests.

Werner | 2707 comments Matt, glad to have you in our group; welcome! (I'm a fairly eclectic reader myself, although in the past 25 years or so I've read much more fiction than nonfiction. And I can well recall how much havoc having young kids at home played with my reading time!)

Um, Charly, did you possibly mean "Litwit Lounge?" (Though, granted, there are certainly times when I feel like a nitwit.... :-) )

Yes, a warm welcome to Hagen-Jesu and anyone else who's joined us recently!

Werner | 2707 comments Charly wrote: "What I wrote was A Litwit Lounge welcome to JaGen-Jesu. Auto correct did a number on that. I guess it applies when you post because I checked it before I posted."

Charly, auto-correct is unquestionably a pretty awful program! I'm enormously glad that my PC doesn't have it. (Spell check is one thing; but if a computer thinks I need to make corrections in something I wrote, I want to approve those corrections first!)

message 197: by Yuri (new)

Yuri Sar (yurisar) Greetings everyone! I just joined the group. I come from Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands and I am currently teaching EFL to little ones in Bulgaria -a Balkan nation- on a full-time basis and in my spare time doing a MA in Early Childhood Intervention.

I adore reading, almost anything except chick-lit and books that have swear words -not my cup of tea at all- in them. I especially enjoy Russian literature -classics and many contemporary authors- Roberto Bolaño, science-fiction, poetry, YA and works on anthropology.

I look forward to participating here!
