Welcome! Newcomers Please Read Number 1 First.

Thanks, Joy. I was six months old at the time. My maternal grandfather died in the same week, so I never actually knew either one of them.

I absolutely agree! A Goodreads feature that might be of interest: even if not everyone gets around to posting about what he/she is currently reading, if you click on the "Members" link for this group (https://www.goodreads.com/group/13500... ), beside each name, the program will automatically show the last book added to the person's "currently reading" shelf. (Of course, some people may be reading more than one book....) The Members link will work that way in all groups.

Hi everyone. I'm Yvonne and have recently begun branching out with my good reads account to find likeminded book worms and fun discussions.
I love reading classics but have been reading a lot more modern works as of late. Mostly graphic novels for fun quick reading during the school year.
I am a 2nd year college student working towards an accounting degree. So both money and time are often tight when it comes to reading.
Looking forward to getting to know some good people! *Holds up Cocoa mug in a toast*

that's quite an ambitious challenge, I'll see about helping you out if I can.

I LOVE the name "LitWit". Any time I see words played with in such a creative way it gives me a chuckle and little thrill. I'm also a sucker for a good pun!
I've been doing some browsing and know I'm out of my league here but I will enjoy reading what others write and ask you (in advance) to forgive me for every time I put my foot in my mouth, which can happen incredibly often.
I've been an active follower of Jesus for 38 years but love to get pushed out of my "comfort zone" by the ideas and ideals of all sorts of different people.
So, in short, (which is rarely how I express myself) I'm just happy to be part of this group.
Sincerely, Laura-Lee

Laura-Lee and I met (online) through Goodreads, and we've been Internet friends for years. She's Canadian, a Stephen Lawhead fan, and an all-around swell person!

What a bunch of Sweetie-Pies! (with Werner Lind leading the pack).
BTW, my cat, MONTY, has literally learned how to use the touchpad and function keys on my lap top. So, if you suddenly see something bizarre inserted, (for ex: "the bottom of my dish is visible. DO SOMETHING") you'll know it's not actually me).
Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. ;-)
Love L-L

(For anyone who might not know, Mary JL and I are longstanding Goodreads friends. We share a liking for science fiction, among other things.)

I am really glad to have joined a group full of literature lovers as I am!! thank you

With your enjoyment of classics and knowledge of French, you might like to join us for our read of Les Miserables.

Um, Charly, did you possibly mean "Litwit Lounge?" (Though, granted, there are certainly times when I feel like a nitwit.... :-) )
Yes, a warm welcome to Hagen-Jesu and anyone else who's joined us recently!

Charly, auto-correct is unquestionably a pretty awful program! I'm enormously glad that my PC doesn't have it. (Spell check is one thing; but if a computer thinks I need to make corrections in something I wrote, I want to approve those corrections first!)

Charly, I think your maniacal auto-correct program has struck again. :-) BiJay, welcome to the group! I think Charly meant, feel free to join in the discussion on any thread.

I adore reading, almost anything except chick-lit and books that have swear words -not my cup of tea at all- in them. I especially enjoy Russian literature -classics and many contemporary authors- Roberto Bolaño, science-fiction, poetry, YA and works on anthropology.
I look forward to participating here!

Hi Janelle! Enjoy what is left of Sunday :-) are you reading any books this weekend?

Sorry about the early loss of your father, Werner. How old were you then?
It's funny about the way we remember where we've lived. Each place holds a distinct "atmosphere". More or less, I've lived in 3 different places in NYS, each for about 25 years. I really can't say which place had the most influence on me. They were just places. I remember with fondness the years when I was single and lived home with my immediate family. Then there are the "married with children years", hectic but precious. Then there are the "empty nest" years with all kinds of adjustments.
Right now (this minute) seems the most peaceful... in our little vacation home near the lake, and with my husband, now winding the grandfather clock from my childhood. I've come full circle.
"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive at where we started
And know the place for the first time."
~T. S. Eliot, Little Gidding
