How fast do you read?

Skim read it, answered the questions based on logical answers rather than what I observed, got 2 out of 3 right, apparently I'm 467% faster than the national average, which is rubbish because while I can read quickly, I don't get much info out of it, hence my natural reading pace tends to be much slower.
"You read 611 words per minute. That makes you 144% faster than the national average."I don't really skim while reading fiction. I allow some time for the brain to form visual representation of what I'm reading. It does help in memorizing things since I'm not really good at remembering things in a blink.
I guess knowing it was a speed reading test I approached it as one, but normally I'm nowhere near as fast so my stat is misleading.
Of course I skimmed :PYou read 830 words per minute.
That makes you 232% faster than the national average.
i read casually in the first try and got 43% slower than the national average. then, i read in a much faster rate, the one that i'll use when i want to finish the book quickly and got 43% faster! ye!
First story was about some sort of square. The second one I did was an excerpt from Alice in Wonderland. Strangely enough I got all 3 correct for the 2nd and only 2/3 for the first. You read 1,191 words per minute.
That makes you 376% faster than the national average.
After doing the first excerpt I just skimmed for keywords during the second attempt. Cheating yeah I know lol.

I wanted to see how fast my actual speed was so I read the 3rd piece at my normal speed, taking the time to read every word like I usually do. Here's my "real" reading speed.
You read 639 words per minute.
That makes you 156% faster than the national average.
3/3: The Wizard of Oz.
If you consider doing it 3 times to be practicing then yes. My reading speed varies depending on the material I read. I read newspapers a lot faster than I would an interesting novel, and it's slowest when I read textbooks. My main problem is that I don't spend enough time reading books in general.
Lord Nouda wrote: "If you consider doing it 3 times to be practicing then yes. My reading speed varies depending on the material I read. I read newspapers a lot faster than I would an interesting novel, and it's slow..."i understand your feelings about reading the slowest on textbook.
I find I read a book faster if I enjoy it, which I guess is the definition of a page turner. I rarely if ever revisit books, because I'm mostly in it for the story and once that coalesces and becomes clear it ceases to interest me.As an editor, I have learned the art of the tediously slow read, sniffing out misplaced commas, and mangled grammar, which while interesting is also tedious, but interestingly so!
Textbooks are the pits, as they require attention to often uninteresting detail, or detail that needs to be crammed into ones head in order to pass an exam. Thank the Gods I don't have to do that any more!
Textbooks, why can't they (readers, publishers, whoever) make them more interesting? To me that's where my problem lay mostly - I got sleepy looking at those titles and subtitles and the many points, as in, Chapter 5 Introduction to Economics, 5.1 What is Economics 5.1.1 The History of Economics, so on so forth. At uni some of my courses use 'regular' books as textbooks and every time I had the misfortune of having courses that use 'real' textbooks, I just could not help wondering if there are any alternative books that can save me from the hell of boredom.
You'd think that anything entertaining could not possibly be educational and vice versa, ironically I'm working with 'educational comics', which, while not the most rollickingly funny stuff is nonetheless interesting, and heck even though I'm not studying per se, I learn new stuff while counter-researching for the informative segments.
US textbooks are more interesting. Vibrant illustrations. I'd both UK & US textbooks. UK textbooks drown me to death
Well I, like most here, have had the wonderful 'privilege' of having underutilised Malaysian government approved (and boring as mud) textbooks!
This was fun. Read at normal pace at registered 424 words per minute with 2/3 questions answered correctly. Seventy percenter. As long as I enjoy my book, it is fine. And yes, when it is a page turner, you tend to read faster. I often have to force myself to go slowly and savour the words.
Interesting - I am also like that with writing poetry. Often the poem is done before I am done, and have to go over it again to rewrite carefully.
Yes, Woolfie. Ever since I was a little girl - and that was years ago. If you would like to indulge, pls visit:www.pantundanselokaninotaziz.blogspot...

It is great exercise for writing books.
Always a pleasure to survey the gems of a fellow, and much more established by the look of it, poet:pSome lovely pieces there, tu connais francais! Formidable:)
Woolfie, I had the pleasure of browsing through your eloquent poetry! A pleasure to meet you.Note : My french poetry is an attempt to improve my basic french, thus the very short poetry you find there.
Cheers!
Eloquent? You are too kind. I don't write nearly as much poetry as I probably should be, but the muse hasn't amused me as of late, although that said I rather like taking part in roleplaying fiction now, something I'm using as an exercise to develop my writing:)
294 words. 18% faster than the national (American probably) average. But just under the rate for average adults which is 300 words.
I did not skim.
I did not take the test again.
I knew it was a test so that probably influenced the results.

Hey, this is fun!I took the test twice...The first result was a bit too high for me to believe..500++ words something..
The second one was probably the most legit, considering that I didn`t skim..
You read 460 words per minute.
That makes you 84% faster than the national average.
Not trying to break records, but doing the test is fun!
Thanks for the thread~
Okay I took it twice. Both times got 3/3.Results as follows:
You read 402 words per minute.
That makes you 61% faster than the national average.
You read 482 words per minute.
That makes you 93% faster than the national average.
Does this mean that if I keep at it, I will get much faster? Lol! But personally there's no joy in reading fast. I want to 'see' everything in all its splendor.
You read 397 words per minute. That makes you 59% faster than the national average.
Ermmm I think I read slow. Oh whatever :D
You read 282 words per minute. That makes you 13% faster than the national average.
Boleh lah, first try I fail :P
Tak berani nak buat test ni sebelum ni. Cuba buat pagi-pagi Subuh hari ni. Seperti dijangka -12% slower than national average, 221 words per minute.
Saya memang jarang baca buku Bahasa Inggeris sebab bahasa ibunda saya bahasa Melayu (alasan kukuh tak? Marah Tun M).
Cuma nak tahu, national average di sini, nasional peringkat Malaysia atau negara mana? Kalau memang negara yang bahasa ibundanya bahasa Inggeris, saya fikir oklah tu.

666 (Ha!) words per minute. Though the real thing is probably closer to 450~ since with real books I have to imagine stuff as I go. The graph makes me optimistic though - maybe I'll get faster as I go...?

Mengikut ujian ni, saya 10% LAMBAT dari national average (I assume, Americans?). Siapa-siapa sudi ambil ujian ni jangan malu kongsi keputusan di sini. Teringin nak tahu.
