there is also another lecture series (John Bowlby) book...
am wondering whether it is actually the same author and how would it be best for me to find out?

The two are not the same.

One method that's usually useful is to consult WorldCat: http://www.worldcat.org/identities/

Also, publishers sometimes have lists compiled of the relevant author's books, or if the author has their own web page, it's a great source for their bibliography.

Sometimes you can just tell based on genres too, although I don't recommend that method since authors frequently cross from genre to genre.
