Problem with an author

There is a problem with Anton Chekhov. Actually both of them are same person but there was a spelling mistake. "Chekhov" writing as "çehov" in Turkish but actually reading like "Chekhov". I cant explain exactly, I know but it is a problem between russian alphabet and our alphabet. The point is both are same person.

thank you for explanation.

Can you supply a link or the ISBN to the book
Edit: Eventually found it and fixed it

The books are: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

and my name is Vicki Keire! Thanks again!

The fact is, GR's is an archive of information. Sometimes it's not about what the author wants, but the way GR's policy is. For example: an author might want a book deleted or a cover changed. We just don't do that.
Now, these appear to be books by another individual, so it's not like you are the primary editor of an anthology that needs to be there for combine purposes. For this reason, I haven't re-added your name.
Maybe rivka can chime in here on this? Should her name stay? Or is it okay to not have her name there?

We add editors in the case of anthologies or there is no named author i.e travel books compiled by multiple people
Paula wrote: "If there is a named author which appears to be the case in these example then we would NOT add the editor - in the same way we do not add the cover artist or the proof reader to the book."
Exactly.
Exactly.

Thanks for the official "GO!" on that.

from Garcilaso de la Vega

whether this is the correct form of his name I'm not sure

I just stumbled upon a problem with Vladimir Nabokov.
First, when I went to combine some editions (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...), I noticed that under his name there are tens and tens editions of 'Alice in Wonderland', miraculously appeared there. He's the translator of some editions of the book from English to Russian but I have the impression that ALL the editions of Caroll's book are listed there - I checked several and I couldn't find Nabokov mentioned anywhere in the book description. Could someone take a look?
Second, I have a problem with the author profiles in English and in Russian (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...), well, in Cyrillic.
For example, about the book 'Gift'.
There are two links for it:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/81...
Although I inserted the author's name in both alphabets I still can't combine there editions, when clicking on the Cyrillic profile I don't see the editions from the other one and vice versa (only for this book so far, there may be others as well).
Could someone take a look, maybe I'm missing something... Thanks!

The first author has to be the same for both editions (even the language). Moved the English spelling to the first spot and combined for the examples given.
I found another Russian edition. I'm assuming they are the same book, just one had the Cyrillic spelling for the author and one had the English. I added the Cyrillic spelling to the one that was missing it. I went ahead and merged the editions since only one had any information.

could someone please ad Mohamad Salameh as second author, because he created the food. You can check on http://www.amazon.de/Mezze-ein-Genuss... if you like.
Thank you
Kerstin

Because the name of the author was written in the wrong order at the following book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...
The author profile (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...) was created.
I corrected the name order on the book page.
The author page should be deleted.
Thanks.

The edition I shelved now has "unknown author." Presumably the author can just be Horatio Nelson? This is an audio cassette, I don't know if that matters. Probably it shouldn't.

ETA: Found an image I could read the narrator's name from and added the narrator.

Also, found ISBN on WorldCat.

I searched the Library of Congress (by the way, is this the right page to serch?) and her name is used with an accent, Yōko Ogawa. I know I'm being too much into details, but should't we use the name with the accent?
http://catalog.loc.gov/vwebv/search?s...
And another question, there is also her author page with the Japanese name. Should I add "Yoko Ogawa" as the primary author for these books? I don't think they are all translated into other languages. I've read different oppinions about this situation, but I am not sure what it's best to do.

Thank you!

I am of two minds on the use of the diacritic*. Using it in her name is technically the correct romanization of the name. However, most English language books will not use the diacritics. (English native words do not have any diacritics, and only a few loan words do. Even the loan words often have them dropped.) In addition, depending on which romanization system is used, either Yōko or Yôko is correct. Normally we would default to how the LOC does it, which is Yōko. However, looking through some of her books covers, it is written either as Yoko or Yôko. So in this case I'm really not sure which would be the best option.
The more I think about, it sounds like GR needs to determine a system to use. However, if pressed, the response would probably be something like "use what LOC uses", which is the Revised Hepburn system. Therefore the name would be Yōko.
So after all that rambling, I guess the short answer would be, I would change it to Yōko.
*Slight correction, in that her name has a diacritic, not an "accent". To rephrase, while all accents are diacritics, not diacritics are accents. ;)

…own the same ISBN and front cover but different publishers. My copy gives no author credit (though the very small print does include the names of the ‘manager food publications’, the ‘home economists’, the ‘managing editor’ … etc right down to the ‘national sales manager’.
So, for now, for my edition I have entered the author’s name as ‘Anonymous’. But how do I combine the edition records?
Many thanks

Policy states: Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown. Not Anonymous. That's reserved for traditional stories/religious texts/etc. Not uncertain attribution.

Oops! Thank-you for the reminder to re-read the librarian manual.

Here is the link to my book:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...
The book that I did *not* write is Syntax: A Linguistic Introduction to Sentence Structure.
Is there an easy way to fix this? I'd appreciate the help!

From now on, if you add any more books to your profile, enter your author name as J.E.<2spacehere>Miller. That's the only way the GR system has of disambiguating authors with the same names. :)

We add editors in the case of anthologies or there is no named author i.e travel books compiled by multiple people "
can we have an update in the librarian manual re-what is allowed and not allowed in author fields, please?
I'm seeing a lot of editors & copy-editors (of novel, not anthologies), proofreaders, & cover artist (listed as illustrators) in a lot of book pages lately.

Start a topic there suggesting the changes you would like. If they are agreed with by the group then rivka will change as and when she has time.
and to clarify none of those should be attached to the author field - but cover artist documented in description field.
Edit: In this area:
