First Time Author

While I enjoyed this book it definitely has its flaws. I can't help but wonder if the knowledge that this is the author's first book makes me more forgiving. If his next book read the same I'm not as sure that I would like it as well as his first. He has a lot of good things going so I will definitely check out his next endeavor. Are you more willing to overlook things in a first time author? Can you pick out the good things they have going and look forward to them expanding on those?
