Chelsea | 58 comments That would be just fine and dandy with me. And down with public libraries that don't have an abundance of the books we want!

message 52: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments Yeah! Hey, wait! I blame budget cuts!
In any case, sure, I think it would be great to plan ahead. Should we start claiming up some more months?

message 53: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments That's my vote, obviously... but you guys can make the picks--I'm content reading whatever you choose!

message 54: by Erich (new)

Erich Franz Linner-Guzmann (erichfranzlinnerguzmann) | 81 comments That sounds good to me too! So I am thinking that Chelsea should pick the next book :) yeah? Then who wants June?

message 55: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea | 58 comments Alright, kids. Here's my pick--Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. I have never read it, and all I know is it's about zombies and is supposedly scary. Basically I wanted to pick a book with a plot that everyone could relate to, and what is more relatable than zombies? Get excited for June, y'all.

message 56: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments Eee! I'm excited! And I know Becca had an idea. Maybe she should do July? I'll try to come up with an idea this weekend and then grab up another month!

message 57: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea | 58 comments Meg, you should totally pick a month, if you want.

message 58: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Yes, Meg, you should definitely pick a month if you have any ideas.

And thanks Chels for being on top of it and already having a book picked out. You are the bees knees!

message 59: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments Okay, I've got the crying policeman and forest zombies both on my ILL request list at the minuscule local library, so we'll see how long it takes them this time :) That's what I get for an address in Podunk, Utah.

As for picking a book, I'll let everyone else choose first then throw out a few ideas.

Thanks, guys!

message 60: by Meredith (last edited May 13, 2009 10:26AM) (new)

Meredith | 155 comments Okay, I have a book idea. I know I just barely chose a book, so I can be for a later month, like August, September, etc. Or I could do July. I don't care. Since I already have an idea! Yay!

Anywho, my book is North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. It's classic English lit. There's tension between social classes! Romance! Dirt, death, and disease! It should be fun. Let me know what month you want it to be.

Note--not to be confused with the book about the Civil War of the same name.

message 61: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments North and South sounds fun! I saw the miniseries and loved it, but I'll try not to let that color my judgment...

message 62: by Becca (new)

Becca | 160 comments Meg, I think you are the only one that hasn't picked a book. So if you can think of one you should get July or Aug.

I want to unofficially pick "Hungary Games" for my next book. I don't care what month it is though

message 63: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments Okay, if you guys need a recommend I'm gonna go to my all-time fav: How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn. (That is, unless several of you have already read it? Let me know and I'll repick.) It was written in 1940, I believe--a Welsh coming-of-age story with "industry vs. nature" themes and beautiful lyrical writing.

Post a message if you've already read this one!

message 64: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments I've never read it. Sounds good. Should that be July?

message 65: by Becca (new)

Becca | 160 comments Meg- I have never read it. Sounds good to me!

message 66: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn it is.

message 67: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments Hey guys, my library just got me Book Thief! (yep, I requested it as soon as I knew we were reading it). Pathetic.

message 68: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Ha ha. Awesome library! Feel free to post in that section. Even though we're done reading it, I'm sure we'd all still love to comment on your comments.

message 69: by Dave (new)

Dave Geurts (davegeurts) | 33 comments Hey friends, I have a pick for any month that needs a book.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein

http://www.amazon.com/Moon-Harsh-Mist...

message 70: by Dave (new)

Dave Geurts (davegeurts) | 33 comments Oh I have another one that can also be whatever month we could do this one like 3-4 months out. I think you all might enjoy this one more then the moon is a harsh mistress but it is:

The Temple of Kokopelli by Edmund E Hansen.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39...

It was written by my wifes grandfather and it is awesome!!! I could also get anybody in the salt lake area a free copy.

message 71: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Excellent! So, do you want to do The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress first? If so, I'll put it down for August... I think August is the next free month. I'm excited to read it. And also excited to read The Temple of Kokopelli. I remember you telling me about it once. And a free copy makes it even more enticing!

message 72: by Becca (new)

Becca | 160 comments All sounds good to me. To bad I don't live close enough to get a free copy. :(

message 73: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Hurry and get it now while you're still in town!

message 74: by Dave (new)

Dave Geurts (davegeurts) | 33 comments Cool lets do the Temple of Kokopelli first everyone send me a private message on good reads that wants a copy. I am also willing to ship out some copies so send me your address as well if you don't around SLC. If it is in August I can ship it the slowest method which I dont mind paying for a few of those.

message 75: by Erich (new)

Erich Franz Linner-Guzmann (erichfranzlinnerguzmann) | 81 comments You rock Dave, THX! New rule.... the person that picks the book sends everyone a copy!!! haha, jk..

message 76: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Sweet. You are the best Dave. I'll just get my copy from you when we finally have that kava party we're always talking about :)

message 77: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea | 58 comments Hey, guys...I'm kind of a loser. I picked for June and just checked today to see if I could get it and guess what? BYU and Provo don't have it and the Orem Library is waiting for it to come in and I'm 5th in line. SO! My question to everyone is, Are you all having similar experiences getting this book? If yes, I can either pick a different book or we can switch my month to a latter month. I am sorry! I think part of the problem is that it just came out this year (I'm pretty sure I read that, anyway). Anywho, y'all let me know what you think.

message 78: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Well, Chelsea, if no one else is having the same problem, I will check at the U library. I'm sure they will have it and I'm going to be buying a copy of the book anyway. So, I will just give you the copy from the library. In fact, it will be a good excuse to leave class early. Tuesdays I have an economics class from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then an Intro into Research Design class from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m... That information is not important, but I would appreciate any sympathy I can gain and/or people willing to pretend to be me for a few hours of each class period.

message 79: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments I'm second on the waiting list here, so I should be good. But I'm also willing to do something else if need be.

message 80: by Dave (new)

Dave Geurts (davegeurts) | 33 comments I need to purchase all these books and start exploiting all of you... wooooowhaha

message 81: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments Poor Tiffany. I send you my sympathy, but there's no way I'll double :) I've already served my time, thank the maker.

message 82: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments So which book is next? Zombies?

message 83: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments Dave wrote: "Cool lets do the Temple of Kokopelli first everyone send me a private message on good reads that wants a copy. I am also willing to ship out some copies so send me your address as well if you don'..."

Sorry, tried to send you a private message and goodreads either wouldn't let me, or I'm technologically inept (probably the latter). I want one! I live in Springville, but I'm heading through Salt Lake on June 1st. Do you want me to pick it up somewhere or send you a few bucks for shipping?

message 84: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Darn. Well, I figured it can't hurt to try. Assuming the Forest of Hands and Teeth is the zombie one, then yes, it's next!

message 85: by Becca (new)

Becca | 160 comments So wait I am confused are we doing Forest of Hands and Teeth for June. We are right. I sure hope so I have already started reading it and I like it

Dave- I don't know how to do a private email thinger ma bob. Can you get my address from TIff?

Tiff- I will text you my address

message 86: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Yes. We are doing Forest of Hands and Teeth.

And you sent that yesterday, on your BIRTHDAY!!!! and I still haven't gotten a text of your address.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY yesterday BECCA!!! How old are you now?

message 87: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments Ha! I'm up to number 1 on the holds list for June's book! Also, what's the deal with August? I want a book! But I am Goodreads inept, and can't figure out the private email thingee either. Help!

message 88: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea | 58 comments Happy birthday, Becca! I hope all your birthday wishes came true, truly.

message 89: by Becca (new)

Becca | 160 comments Thanks Chels. Uhum Uhum Merdith *me giving the stare down look* do you have anything to add to your post?

message 90: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Psst... Meredith... I think you're suppossed to say Happy Birthday to Becca.

message 91: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments Er, I thought it was implied! Happy (super late) Birthday, Becca!

message 92: by Becca (new)

Becca | 160 comments Thanks Mer how did you know!

message 93: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments I'm so excited for you guys to read my favorite book! If you hate it, be nice about it. It's funny how we get emotionally attached to a story, even though we have nothing to do with its creation, and then take personal offense if someone else thinks it's poop (great... now I have to go take a rock out of our family "potty mouth" jar...)

Also, I read back through the posts, but I'm a tiny bit slow-- What are the books for August and September? I like to give my library a 2-month heads up when possible, for previously stated reasons... (yep, still waiting on the PKD one, for anyone who's curious...)

message 94: by Becca (new)

Becca | 160 comments Meg, I totally get what you are saying. When someone doesn't like a book/movie you love, you feel a need to convince them that it really is great and they need to give it another chance :)

message 95: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
We don't have one for September. I don't think so anyway. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The book for August is Temple of Kokopelli by Edmund E. Hansen.

Dave said he was willing to get books for everyone. I haven't talked to him in awhile and I know he hasn't posted in awhile. Dave, are you still there?

message 96: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments We're starting the July book now, right? And it's How Green was my Valley? That's the impression I got from this list, but it doesn't say it on the main group page. That is all.

message 97: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 194 comments Mod
Yes. Sorry Mer. I have a final on Tue and then I will get started on the book. It sucks because Eric is choosing not to participate in the book club anymore and Chelsea is busy with the new little one. Our numbers are dwindling, but I am determined that we will triumph! Starting Wednesday...

message 98: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments Yes we shall! I just got the book, so I will start reading it soon, and I'll see if I can recruit some people to join. What we really need is for the people who are members to start reading and commenting. Hint, hint...

message 99: by Meg (new)

Meg Sherman (megsherman) | 85 comments So, ummm... evidently I'm some kind of discussion leader this month, but I can't figure out how to lead a discussion. Which is somewhat problematic. Does anyone know how I start a July section on the message boards? (in techno-dummy talk, please)

Also, just so you guys know--it takes a little while for How Green Was My Valley to get going. Wait until you read the scene with Huw and his mother in the snow before you consider giving up! That's an order from your fearless "leader." :P (Wow--this is too much pressure. I've always preferred being a follower, personally.)

message 100: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 155 comments Well, dang, I know I did this in April, but I can't for the life of me figure what I did then! I'll keep messing with it, and hopefully someone else will be able to help you before then.

I'm excited to start the book. I just got it from the library!
