Thoughts?

Richard Holloway | 21 comments Found it at library but in audio form... ugh... going to pick it up tomorrow. 10.5 hours long so should finish it by sunday unless it's so awesome i ignore kids and cleaning the house and listen to it all tomorrow. ;)

Richard Holloway | 21 comments i liked it. the ending got weird. I enjoyed the character development of Ender. Didn't like Peter and Valentine. Valentine got really irritating. I felt as if their little story could have been omitted. if the entire story was first person or just focused on Ender and the ending wasn't weird it would have been the best sci fi book i read. If the sequels are as good, I will read them as well.

Richard Holloway | 21 comments At the end of the book on the audio book was a history of how it came about. It was actually written as a short story and valentine and Peter were not part of the story. Several years later he signed on with Tor to do a book which ended up being Speaker of the Dead, Card realized that he needed to redo Ender's game so he could tie them together. So the parts of the book I didn't like were basically an afterthought. The core of the story was great. Also he talked about the upcoming movie. He said the script he wrote was actually a combo of Ender's and Bean's story. Don't know if that is the version they actually ended up with.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. Additionally, let's not say the ending until Megan is done so she doesn't get one of those email updates spoiling the end.

Anyway, I think Peter and Valentine are important, maybe that's because I have read Speaker and whatever the next one was. I've been reading them in order of the man writing them, but not necessarily chronologically story-wise. I think Peter and Valentine are important to show how awful Ender could be, like Peter, and Valentine is kind of his moral center. Without both of their influences, Ender cannot be who he is. Peter embodies everything Ender hates and does not want to be, whereas Valentine keeps him kind of on the straight and narrow.

I am not sure what ending you're talking about, the ending where he does the one thing, or the part that comes after where he's all bummed out and it leads into Speaker For The Dead. The one ending was awesome to me, and shocked me. The second bit works better if you go ahead with Speaker, because everything he is afterward is due to his new mission.

The movie thing actually ahppening now? It's been on and off since the early 90s.

Richard Holloway | 21 comments Teaser trailer is out already. Harrison Ford signed on

I understand what you are saying. I didn't see it that way at first. It was just an odd relationship between the three of them.

I just don't see where a movie could work. They'll fuck it up, like Dune.
