Kayleigh Last | 9 comments If you like Thriller novels then Riptide is the book you should read. Douglas Preston and Lincoln Scott Child, most noted for their Agent Pendergast series, have really outdone themselves with this book.

The dreaded pirate, Red Ned Ockham has buried his treasure off the coast of Maine, securing it with a water pit that is impregnable. Generations of adventurers have tried to fight past the pit only to meet with failure, bankruptcy, and death. Including the main character, Malin Hatch's, grandfather, who also met with bitter failure and bankrupted the family funds. When Malin and his brother Johnny decide to explore the island one day, Johnny mysteriously disappears leaving behind a pool of blood.

A quarter of a century later, Hatch is approached by Captain Neidelman, a treasure hunter with a previously undiscovered clue to the pit. He talks Hatch into allowing his company, Thalassa, the chance to recover Ockham's treasure. Hatch returns to Ragged Island to find his brother's body, hoping to put a long haunting past to rest. But, the Water Pit is not about to let them accomplish their goals without a fight and when things begin to go wrong...

As typical with a Preston and Child novel, this book is full of suspense. The authors keep you guessing about the secrets of the island until the very end of the book. The writing is so well done that you are there with the characters, up until the last page. As always, Preston and Child's attention to detail are spectacular. There was actually a part in the book where I turned my head away as if I was watching a movie!

If you want a book with romance, drama, suspense, and that can’t put down feeling, then this book is for you. However, if you cannot handle gore, or possible nightmares, then you may want to pass this book by.
