I finished this one a week or so ago & really enjoyed it! I' m a real history fsn & I love how the author tied in the vampire thread. What I really found sad & touching at the same time was when Henry offered immortality as a vampire to Abe several times throughout the book. Immortality is a fascinating concept, because you are able to experience what will ultimately become your history. Also, over time, you can repeatedly reinvent yourself because those that are around you that aren' t immortal will be gone.
I finished it and I will say the ending was great, however, it took me about 3 times as long to read this book as it normally does. It felt like it was dragging. I just wasn't excited to pick up the book again and start reading once I put it down.

Because I enjoyed this I tried his other book. I made it maybe two dozen pages in and sent it back to the library from sheer boredom.
Because of the biographical writing style, I can see why some people would eventually get bored with the novel.

I've thought about the book a lot since I finished it and have decided that the main reason I didn't like it as much as some people is because I'm left wondering what is really fact? Did Lincoln ever meet Poe? Did Lincoln have a first "true love" before Mary? Overall, I am glad this book was chosen to be read and discussed otherwise I probably would never have finished it. :)

Its a great book. Even if I'm not an American, it made me wonder how Abe's life was. Of course, its fiction, but some parts are based on his true life-story which makes it more interesting. I applaud the author for mixing the real and the unreal on this book.
Yeah! Most of it really is fact. And, Lisa, that "did he really meet Poe" question is one of my biggest intrigues about this book. Because I am a big Poe fan:)

I am up to chapter 12 and it is still slow. The story is clever but it is so depressing. I don't look forward to reading it after I have put the book down. I am thinking of my next book. Anyway there is supposed to be a twist at the end so something to look forward to
