I lost a lot of sleep because of this book- both because it gave me nightmares and because I was up all hours turning the pages. It was worth it though because I loved it. I found the main character to be so believable because of her brutal honesty.
I enjoyed this book but it was far more predictable then her second and third ones. Still the pyschological element is frightening! I agree with you Chelsea on her narrator's voice - the starkness of it added so much to the telling.
Agree with Jennifer - this book was more predictable than her 2nd and 3rd. However, I found this one to be much more disturbing, gritty, and psychologically gripping. I read Gone Girl first, then worked my way backwards. I'd rank the books: SO, GG, DP.
Was excited to read this. Yes, predictable , but gripping and a page turner. I'll read Gone Girl for sure, but will need a little emotional break :-).
I agree with Kelly on the psychologically disturbing factor. I think that Gone Girl definitely had a bit of the same in some nice twists. My favorite of Flynn's is still Dark Places though. I was not prepared for that end and found it gripping.
I finished "Gone Girl" last week. Do you think it is too soon to read "Sharp Objects"? Ha, I don't want my brain to get fried with all the dark twisty people.
I think that Sharp Objects was a lot more twisted and disturbing than Gone Girl. Maybe read another happy book first then start?
Thanks Jennifer. I think I will.
This title was my first by Gillian Flynn. I would like to pick up "Gone Girl" at some point. I found Camille's obsession with words and how these were manifested throughout the story to be very compelling.
