Lionsgate: spreading it a little to thin

I was a little confused about them splitting Mockingjay into two movies also. It just doesn't make sense to me. If anything, I would want to see two Catching Fire movies, with the first showing more of the Victory Tour (even if there wasn't as much original material to use) and the second taking place in the arena. To me, more is covered in the second book than the third.

Zaria But if they try to show more of the victory tour then they would end up filling the scenes with information they don't have... Then the Catching Fire ...more

No, I think two movies will be perfect for Mockingjay. There is ALOT packed into thaat book, and there's a lot of travel inside it.

They might even include Peeta and Johanna's rescue from the Capitol!

Because they have to introduce D13, explain what exactly happened to D12, Peeta's interviews, Katniss being the mockingjay, the bombing in 8, then the bombing in 13, shooting the propos, Peeta and Johanna's return, Peeta hating Katniss, Katniss going to D2, them blowing up the Nut in D2, Katniss being shot, Finnick and Annie's wedding, more propos, training for the attack, Peeta's progress, the MASSIVE attack on the Capitol, including each death (Oh, they better make Finnick's spectacular. If he's going to die, he's going out with a bang), Peeta and Katniss bonding, Katniss and Gale getting more romantic, them winning the war, Katniss going back to D12 to live AND FINALLY the epilogue.

That would be EXTREMELY overwhelimg to someone who hasn't read the books in one super-duper long movie. It can't even be done. It would just be too long.

I can see someone who has only seen the movies, and not read the books, being really confused during the movie, and it would also be really rushed.

I don't think that the length is why they are doing it. There are very many events that happen in Mockingjay. To thoroughly go over everyone with the detail it deserves, it has to be two parts. The events and emotion in Mockingjay, couldn't be put into a 2 and a half hour movie. It's not possible. The only way it would be possible would be to skim over the book. And that is not allowed!

I don't see a problem with splitting it into two movies, the first movie was two hours long and they still had to skip a lot of.parts in the book, like the mutants at the end having the other tributes eyes

Maybe they're going to add something to the ending, filling in the gaps some have complained about. That would make the movie longer and make splitting it in two easier to justify.

My concern is, three years from now the interest in YA dystopian films and books might have already peaked. The viewing audience may be ready to move on to someone else.

I dunno... I guess I am kinda excited because they have an opportunity to put in more stuff!!! Maybe an extended ending...?????
