message 51: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Dammit! Just missed the December meeting - and I was right around the corner. I'd love to join the January meeting.

message 52: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments We still need to get a request in to add the event to the calender, but here's the info for our meeting in January:

Saturday, January 12th
2pm
Argo Tea on 11th and University

Danielle usually gets there first and puts a sign out on one of the larger tables. We'd love to have some new people next month!

message 53: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Sweet! I haven't yet read this month's book but would love to come.

message 54: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments We have an official event on the events page now! I'm going to see if I can send invites to everyone in the group, in case people don't get notifications for any reason.

Here are the details for January again:

Saturday, Jan 12th
Argo Tea (University and 11th)
2pm

message 55: by Ashlynn (new)

Ashlynn | 22 comments I definitely am going to try to make it this month! So glad you guys got this going :)

message 56: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Is anyone at the meetup yet? I'm here

message 57: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 31 comments So glad my little organizational take charge self got this going! Had our 3rd meet up today and gained two more people! Welcome Carolyn and I am sorry I do not remember the other woman's name. Our next meet up, which Claire will put in the Events thread, is February 9th at 2pm at Argo Tea (University Place and 11th Street). I am always early so I guess I am the official holder of the table which is all good in the 'hood. Hope to see some more new faces as well as old faces in February...as long as the weather holds of course.

message 58: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Had a great time!

message 59: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments Bumping this thread up to remind everyone that VF NYC is having our in-person hangout this Saturday, February 9th, 2pm at Argo Tea in Union Square. Hopefully it won't blizzard and you can all brave a bit of snow for a warm drink and some good conversation!

message 60: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Remembered, and I will be there.

message 61: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 31 comments Traveling in snow from Jersey City to NYC is horrendous for me. Hopefully it will not blizzard but in case it does I am afraid that I might not be able to make it. :(

message 62: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (dawnfire11) | 8 comments I would love to make it to one of these but something always comes up. Not going to be able to get over to the city from Jersey on Saturday... Maybe next time.

message 63: by Lecta (new)

Lecta | 87 comments Wish I could have made it today, but I had to work (as I do every Saturday). Couple of questions:

1. Will the two In Death books still be discussed the next NYC hangout? I noticed you guys discussed them today, but that seemed pretty early for this month's books.

2. Does anyone have Naked in Death that I can borrow? I'm very VERY poor these days, and Naked in Death won't be available for me to check out from the library until February is far past over.
I am overly protective of books! I wrap them in scarves so they won't get wounded in my bag, and I never fold covers, pages, spines, etc.

message 64: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 31 comments Sarah -- We usually discuss the last month book at our meetups so for example today we talked about Outlander. At the next meetup we will talk about Naked in Death and the upcoming March book. If Saturdays are hard for you, maybe for our next meetup we suggest a different day?

message 65: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments Carolyn and I didn't want to speak for everyone and pick a date for March, so we're open to suggestions! Previously I think we'd mentioned Friday afternoon/evening might work for people, especially those who work in Manhattan but live elsewhere.

If we want to do a Friday meet up, does anyone have a preference between the 15th or the 22nd? And what time is best for you?

And yes, in March we will talk about Feb's picks and a little about March's choice. Generally we try not to get too spoilery, and we talk about books we're reading outside of the club that other members may like as well.

message 66: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Fridays only work for me after 6, but I'm open every one.

message 67: by Lecta (new)

Lecta | 87 comments I work until 7pm on Fridays. I'm off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but please don't cater to me. Especially because I haven't gotten my hands on a book yet.

message 68: by Lori (new)

Lori Perkins (loriperkins) | 1 comments I run an erotica reading series, Between the Covers, the first Friday of every month in Lower Manhattan. We could meet there from 7-8 pm every month. It's in a bar, Happy Endings, 302 Broome St., so they will serve you alcohol too.

message 69: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments How does Friday, March 15th at 6pm sound for everyone? Same place - Argo Tea on University and 11th in Manhattan. Weigh in with a yes or no, please!

Sarah - we've been there for at least an hour in our previous meetups, so hopefully you'll be able to swing by after work.

message 70: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 31 comments That works for me!

message 71: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Works for me!

message 72: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments Just put the event request in, here are the details!

FRIDAY, March 15th
6pm
Argo Tea at University and 11th

We'll talk about the Feb and March picks and go from there. Hope to see some new faces!

message 73: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) I can't wait to move back to NY area! Hopefully you guys are still up for it by the time I move back. I was supposed to go back for a visit in August, but plans came to a hault. Would be nice to make some new friends when I go back =)

message 74: by Lecta (new)

Lecta | 87 comments Would anyone who is definitely going to the meetup mind trading numbers with me? Just so I could text someone when I get off of work to see if you all are still there and/or will still be there when I would arrive.

message 75: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 31 comments I would not mind trading my number with you. We can also text before the meetup too! Send me an email at danisuicidaphoto@aol.com so we can exchange numbers.

Nicki Loder (Coley_Lover) Amanda wrote: "Has anyone been to the Way Station in Brooklyn? I haven't, but I heard it has a TARDIS."

I live on Long Island (sad panda) but I want to go there for my birthday! Except their drink list looks skimpy!

message 77: by Nicki (new)

Nicki Loder (Coley_Lover) Amanda wrote: "I don't think there has been a meet up yet. I'm new to Manhattan, so I'm up for meeting, but pretty low on ideas for places to meet."

I'm in Suffolk too! I'm on the east end!

ChyarasKissReading | 13 comments I'm a yes.
Look forward to it.

message 79: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 31 comments Nicki: Their drink list is not skimpy at all.
Liese: Can not wait to meet you!

~Danielle~

Nicki Loder (Coley_Lover) Danielle wrote: "Nicki: Their drink list is not skimpy at all.

Oh sorry, I meant the doctor who themed drinks! There's only four or five and they look like they're all almost the same thing! But that wont stop me from going!

message 81: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments I've been meaning to go to that bar!

message 82: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments Hope everyone had a great Pi Day!!!

Just a reminder that the March meetup is TOMORROW, March 15th, 6pm at Argo Tea in Union Sq.

See you there!

message 83: by Rigel (new)

Rigel | 27 comments Had a great time at the meet-up. Maybe next time we will all have actually read the books.

message 84: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (joiseydani) | 31 comments We did read them...not all at the same time! Plus usually we do not discuss the month book at the meet up in which the book is. For example, Naked in Death was for February so we discussed it in March

message 85: by Carly (new)

Carly (carlylane) | 9 comments It was definitely a lot of fun! I'm glad I actually made it around to one (and still hoping I can make it next month).

message 86: by Claire (last edited Mar 17, 2013 06:38PM) (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments Glad we had some new faces at the last meetup!!! Nice meeting you Carly, Rigel and Sarah.

Here's the info for upcoming events. I'll also put in a request to have them listed as official events on the group homepage. N/m, reading out of order, Danielle has that taken care of - thanks!

message 87: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Don't forget: tomorrow is the bonus meetup for International Tabletop Day at my house. If you don't already have directions, message/text/Facebook/tweet/send smoke signals to me!

message 88: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments We had a great time yesterday at our mini-meet. The dogs were exhausted :) We should do it again some time - we only cracked the surface of gaming!

message 89: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

message 90: by Rigel (new)

I also wanted to invite you all to a book club I moderate at WORD books in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. If anyone has an interest in romance novels (we do paranormal, contemporary and historical) and wants to come discuss once a month (plus a monthly cocktail party!) the info is below.

Oooh, I've even read the current book pick already! You'll be talking about "One Good Earl" at the meeting on the 27th, right? Or is that what you'll be reading in May?

message 95: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacromwell) | 221 comments Had a great meetup despite the downpour this afternoon!! Next one will be a little later in June to accommodate some vacations, info is below.

Saturday, June 22nd, 4pm
Argo Tea, University and 11th (off of Union Square)

Since it's closer to the end of the month than usual, we'll cover both May and June picks. Hope to see you all there!

Cool, I'll be working in NYC office in July. Will try to make it down.

message 99: by Molly (new)

Molly Huggins (mollyvirginia) | 10 comments Thanks for the update! I've just moved to Brooklyn and will try to make it for the July 27 meet up!

message 100: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Cochran | 164 comments Just putting it out there as a reminder ... we should totally brainstorm this meeting re: a location-specific name for the group + logo. The VF overlords mentioned it on the hangout this month and it might be fun to have our own (ala Beaver Dreams).
