For the King's Favor
question
For a Kings Favor, and it UK name

Isn't it so confusing when both books and films are released on each side of the pond under different names? When I saw this title appear on goodreads my first thought was that here was a book by Elizabeth Chadwick that I had not even heard of let alone read.
Then the lack of a U in Favor gave me a clue, and after a little research I realised it was one if Elizabeths series if Books in the Bigods of East Anglia, called in the UK ' A Time of Singing '. It descibes how Hugh Bigod Earl of Norfolk with the support if his second wife, rebels against Henry Ii in 1173, and his son Roger sure that his father who despises him, has made a big mistake takes his fillowers over to Henry's side. The history research is impeccable and the tale well told and fascinating. It also makes many connections and fills in a lot of loose ends in other books not least Sharon Kay Penmans superb trilogy on Henry Plantagenet and his turbulent relations with both his Queen Eleanor and his sons. It is a great advert for Framlingham Castle, and gives the context behind Henry's ordering the building if Orford Castle a few mils away on the coast.

I bought the books under both names not realizing it was the same story. Fooled me!! It is a wonderful story and a great accompaniment to Elizabeth Chadwick's others in the series. The story of Hugh Bigod and his son Roger is engaging and very well researched and written. I have read most of Elizabeth Chadwick's books and will continue to follow her as she continues to write 12-13th century historical fiction. Love this era of English history
