Tom | 53 comments This is a great choice. I'm in!

Tracey (stewartry) As I just said elsewhere, I'm ordering this from eBay tonight - count me in. (I have most of the rest of the series, but never picked up this one. So - great!)

message 3: by J (new)

J (skewed) | 13 comments Sorry, not available at my library & not on Kindle for US. But I'm in for trying new authors. Hope we can keep this going...Thanks

message 4: by Purlewe (new) - added it

Purlewe Not available at my library.. but I did nab another by the same author. Will try to hunt this one down to read by the end of the month.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Jean-Luke, Tracey invited me to play along. I can't get a hold of this at such short notice (I'm in Italy) and it's not quite old enough for Gutenberg, plus I'll be travelling a lot. But I will follow along with the discussion, and will wait for September's book.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Tracey just invited me, too, and I can get this at my local library, so I'm in. (Hi Hayes!)

Jemidar Tracey just invited me too, and as it happens I have this book unread on my shelf so I'm definitely in. I've just got to finish a buddy read of Gone with the Wind first but should be here by mid August. Fingers crossed!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I might squeeze this one in along with GWTW -- it's a short one, I believe.

Tracey (stewartry) Welcome, welcome!

Jemidar Jeannette wrote: "I might squeeze this one in along with GWTW -- it's a short one, I believe."

It is short, my copy is only 205 pages. And don't worry, I won't tell Anna you've got a bit on the side ;-D.

**waves at Tracey**

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

hahaha! I never used to cheat on my current read, but these chunksters require blocks of time, and sometimes a quick read fills in the gaps. ;-O

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

But, I won't start for another week, most definitely.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone! *waving wildly*

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, now this group should see a bit more activity....

message 15: by Jane (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (janesteen) | 95 comments Hi everyone! And thanks, Tracey, for inviting me. I'm in the mood for some mystery. I ordered the book, but as it's from a reseller it's anyone's guess as to when it'll arrive...it was on my TBR list anyway!

message 16: by Kate (new)

Kate | 32 comments One of my favorite myseries -- and I own it! I'm in.

message 17: by Kim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kim (kimmr) I'd say I was stalking Tracey, but I'm also here by invitation. *waves to everyone*. I just acquired this book on Kindle and should also be able to start by mid-August.

Tracey (stewartry) It's not stalking when we follow each other around - it's more like Pooh and the Heffalumps!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL!

Lynnm Have to get to the library to get it, but should be able to start this weekend.

Is there a schedule of chapters to be read for each week? Or do we wait until we are finished the entire book to start posting?

New here and don't want to give away spoilers.

Tracey (stewartry) Hi, Lynnm! Welcome.

message 22: by Jane (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (janesteen) | 95 comments I vote for finishing the entire book and then posting - I have trouble complying with reading schedules.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

The question is how to handle spoilers for the "slower" readers. (Or late-starters, like me.)

Lynnm Probably depends on how long the book is. And since I don't have a copy in front of me, I have no idea. If it is shorter, just wait until people finish. If it is longer, MHO - best to break it down.

message 25: by Jane (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (janesteen) | 95 comments 25th is good for me... I'm a fast reader! Of course the book may not arrive for a while, but I only need a day or two.

Lynnm The 25th sounds great! I'm going to the library tomorrow to pick up the book.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I prefer to open the discussion threads at the beginning, and mark spoilers, letting people join in at their own pace. I've never done a group read that had a delayed start date for the discussion like this, so I have no idea how it will work.

How do you see this working for a two-book month? (I'm just asking and not meaning to be critical; just thinking out loud.)

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I see your point about IRL book clubs. I've gotten so used to "running (open-ended)" book discussions on GR, that I hadn't thought about taking notes for later discussion. I'm game to give it a try.

Tracey (stewartry) Works for me - I hope to have the book by the end of the week. I'll make a point of taking notes.

Helen | 98 comments I have not read Crispin (yet) - Indigo does not have the book on the shelf but it is on Kobo. The idea of taking notes is interesting; I will probably order this unless I find it elsewhere before next week. This group was new to me as of yesterday ~ I have to say that it is enjoyable and I have a short list of books to read ... thank you Jean-Luke for starting this:0

Tracey (stewartry) How funny - it's on Kobo? There's no Kindle edition. Harrumph.

message 32: by Kim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kim (kimmr) For reasons presumably connected with copyright law, I was able to get a Kindle edition. It's strange how that works.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Good for you! :D

message 34: by Kim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kim (kimmr) Yep. It's a dangerous thing, the Kindle. All that potential for instant literary gratification.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

The freebies are bad enough, and then I wander into "it's only $2.99" territory! lol I'm happy that my library has many of the books I read.

message 36: by Kim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kim (kimmr) As I've been a book buyer rather than a book borrower all my adult life, as long as the Kindle edition is cheaper than I can find it new or second hand, I'm sold!

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I hear you. I like my kindle as an option, definitely. But, now I have two libraries to borrow from, and the Uni has lots of the old or obscure books, too.

Bedtime for me, now! Have a good day at work, Kim! See you tomorrow

message 38: by Kim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kim (kimmr) The issue for me is not the lack of libraries. The University of Sydney (where D works) has a huge library and we have an excellent local library network. It's just that I always want to keep the books I like. It's been that way for me since I left school. It's probably something I inherited from my mum. She was always a big book buyer: we spent much more time in bookstores than we did in libraries. The Kindle just makes the whole process of buying a book way too easy!

Anyway, goodnight and sleep tight, Jeannette. x

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I do buy books after I've read them (and loved them), but I generally don't buy a book I don't know anything about. I would really rather read it first from the library.

Now, You sleep tight! Enjoy the weekend. :)

I have no idea what you're talking about. *shoves Kindle loaded with free-to-$2.99 books under stack of papers* Uh uh.

I am so hooked on Netgalley it's ludicrous. Free books, in exchange for reviews? I can do that.

Tracey (stewartry) 'Night, both! Happy weekend.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm just getting started on Friday morning, Tracey; Kim's heading to bed. Happy weekend to you, too! :)

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi girls... 3:00 in the afternoon here. Enjoy the day and the weekend.

Tracey (stewartry) Yes, it does help to actually pay attention to the time tags, doesn't it? Kim wished you a good night eight hours ago. I'm still only halfway through my first coffee at 9 AM.

Kimberly | 14 comments Picking up the book today at my local used book dealer. It's a new author for me. I hope this group keeps going. Looking forward to it

:)

Have a nice weekend, Hayes!

Glad you found the book, Kimberley!

Christina (christinalc) | 20 comments I just joined this group, well actually rejoined. I dropped out several months ago when nothing was happening. I'm so glad to see it coming to life! I'll try to pick this up over the weekend and get started. It's been on my to-read list for awhile!

Thanks for getting the group going again!

Helen | 98 comments This may be a download for me since I do not foresee getting in town for at least another week ... the temps are triple digits and have been for a while so I am staying close to home.

Christina (christinalc) | 20 comments My copy arrived today, so I'll start it tonight. I should be ready for the discussion later this month. This is my first Crispin, so I'm anxious to get started. It's always fun to read a "new" author.

message 50: by Jane (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jane (janesteen) | 95 comments I'm still waiting for mine to arrive! Oh the suspense...
