How do you choose books based on author?

Out of curiousity, for those of you that will be counting by author, how will you count the author- by where they live now, where they grew up, etc.? I've mostly stuck with setting.

I often check the cataloguing data for setting [Cardiff (Wales) fiction, or British Columbia fiction]. In the case of Alice Munro's stories, Wikipedia mentioned that her birth and many of her settings is Ontario. For Margaret Atwood, her birth and a lot but not all of her life is in Ontario towns/cities. Canadians generally want to claim her.
