The epigraphs are quite heady, I had to reread them both before my brain could wrap around them. That isn't to say that they aren't intriguing; my excitement for this book is palpable. I hope we get some philosophical discussions started in the forums. I enjoy talking with people about both these topics (faith and the portrayal of self) as they inevitably help me learn more about myself.
I'm excited about making the quiz and I really hope the forums are more active for this book!

I read the first epigraph 3 times. I felt like I was studying a piece of literature for a Philosophy class. It reminds me of the Matrix. I didn't have strong feelings one way or another about the second epigraph.

* Dedication: For Couze Venn
* Epigraphs:
But what if God himself can be simulated, that is to say can be reduced to the signs that constitute faith? Then the whole system becomes weightless, it is no longer itself anything but a gigantic simulacrum-not unreal, but a simulacrum, that is to say never exchanged for the real, but exchanged for itself, in an uninterrupted circuit without reference or circumference. Jean Baudrillard
Indeed it is even possible for an entity to show itself as something which in itself it is not. Martin Heidegger
I'll be making categories for chapter sets soon. The official start date for reading is August 1, 2012.
