Roberta (robbi_t) I can't recall the name of a book I read a few years ago about a young man in India who returns home from being away at school to find trouble with a monkey who steals his clothes from the clothesline, and food from the table, etc. He finally gets angry enough to shoot the monkey out of a tree in the garden, but then feels remorse. The story becomes more and more surreal after that, with allusions to Hanuman, the Hindu monkey-god. It was by an Indian author, and was quite lengthy. I think the cover was red, or had a red drawing of a monkey on it. Any ideas?

Tara (snowytara) | 24 comments Any chance that it is "Red Earth and Pouring Rain: A Novel" by Vikram Chandra? Good luck!

Roberta (robbi_t) It is indeed. I actually finally had figured this one out on my own, but thanks anyway, Tara! :)
