I'm reading Treachery in Death and these just get better and better. I don't read these like installments in a series. The In Death series for me is one long wonderful ride that I horde then read bit by bit.

That's a good plan Vfields. Or else you end up like a bunch of us who have to wait 6 months in between books since we read them too fast. :)
I am not sure what pass through I am on with the series. I listen to the audio version. Most times I skip the novellas. I just added the last 4 novellas to my series collection so this trip I am including them. It is such a thrill to finally own the whole series in the audio version.I am currently listening to Seduction In Death. In this round I am enjoying the subtle humor used to describe some situations and Eve's thoughts.
Just started Imitation. I have to say that Portrait had to be one of the most emotional of all of the books so far for me. Unlike most, I almost always sympathize and side with Eve in her interactions with people. She had no one to teach her (and no one to model) how to "politely" deal with others so she just says what she thinks and feels. What many fail to recognize is that she expects the same from others and is genuinely surprised and usually uncomfortable when others treat her with the gentleness and care that she has never seen. So, in a way, she's like a child just learning her way in the give and take of kind and loving relationships. But she is mature enough to know she is at sea and to ask (as uncomfortable as that makes her) those she respects, like Mavis and Dr. Mira. So, right or wrong, in this respect, Roarke is more than just her husband. He has to help her learn how to deal with problems without lashing out and hurting other people. In this one, he proved that he isn't up to the task. When he is faced with admittedly jarring personal news, rather that share it with his wife, he lies to her, shuts her out and lashes out at her in the coldest and nastiest way he possibly could for something that has nothing to do with anything she did (but of course she doesn't know that). My heart broke for her. But, to Robb's credit, she held the characters center. Eve doesn't know how to act civilly to others when she's upset about something so she excepts that she'll be a punching bag for him. While they eventually they work through the emotional minefield together, the journey was heartrending....(view spoiler)
Sue, you may want to move this post to the Portrait in Death book discussion. Here's the link:

There was a period where I thought Robb was just coasting and then that one was released and hit it out of the park!
I'm reading "Thankless in Death" for Thanksgiving, but I am a little behind schedule. I also plan to read "Festive in Death" and "Holiday in Death" along with my other Christmas books.
I'm nearly done with Wonderment In Death. Can't believe I've reached the last couple of books; it feels like only yesterday I started this series. How ecstatic I was that I had over 30 books to enjoy!
And now.... I'm torn between dragging it out and wanting to gobble up these last ones.
My days will be "lesser" without them. I listen to the audio versions and have NO idea where to start with other authors and narrators as good as Robb and Eriksen.
I'll have to wade through all the suggestions and referrals.
If this is the first time for you at the whole series I suggest you give it another full pass through. You will find that you will pickup a lot more. Since you have an idea of what happens you will be able to pick up the side things that you missed the first time.
Great advice, Viki. I read the series three times (when there were about 35 books) and discovered something new in every book each time.
I am currently listening to Apprentice In Death. This will wrap up my listening to this series for 2016. I am sure that before Echos comes out in February I will listen to a couple more of my favorites though.
Just finished Judgement in Death with the Buddy Reads group here. Starting Betrayal and Apprentice in Death in January...fun fun
I just started reading this series (I love Nora Roberts and have read/own all of her books, just never had time or the inclination to start the In Death series, now I'm hooked!) and am just starting Loyalty in Death (#9).
As I stated on a note here a few months ago, I was so glad to learn about this group, and that everyone agreed to restart the series recently. I'm still behind but catching up (I started Witness In Death, #10) tonight, and can't wait to see what happens. Someone who loves this series told me the books would get better as they went on, and I agree.
I'm almost embarrassed to write this, but I keep a small notebook where I can write brief notes about each book. It includes my favorite quotes, the little and humorous moments between Eve and Roarke, a list of each character and a little about their involvement in each book, etc. After all, when I'm asked questions about the series like which ones are my favorite I don't have to remember all 40+.
My problem now, what in the heck am I going to do in February when the newest comes out? I don't want to move ahead and miss all the character development in between, but it's going to kill me knowing that bunches of you are going to be reading Echoes in Death without me! Lol
Kim, first of all, we all keep notes. I use an eReader and each book is chock full of highlights and notes. That's just reality for readers of this series.
Second...please, just don't read out of order. You WILL regret it as you've already expressed that you love the character development. The Eve Dallas in the newest books is one who has evolved over the series and you'll miss that nuance. Same for many of the other secondary characters. And, there may be spoilers.
Keep reading in order and join in on the existing discussions. We have another member here (yes, Belles, I'm referring to you) who is reading the series for the first time and every time she adds her comments, others continue to chime in.
Enjoy the journey as that's 90% of the satisfaction of this series. Don't worry about catching up...you'll just do like many of us and start reading the series again:)

I'm 43% through
- I really want to know who the murderer is, especially since they are obsessed with "pleasing" Eve.

Agreed! Read in order and you'll get caught up eventually. I read the first book in 2013 and I'm still plugging away.
I am all over the place. Since I have read and reread the series, whenever I am looking for a good book I go to my stash of books (the in death series is one of the few authors that I keep the books) and pick out a book. Of course, when a new book comes out I have my hooks into those. I want, and usually am, the first to read the new books
I started Naked in November and just finished Echoes, so now I'm all caught up. And now I can read all the other threads in this group without fear of seeing a spoiler (character discussions, unplugged, wired, etc.). Can't wait to see what you all have been talking about!
I started Naked on 9/21/2016 and finished Apprentice 1/23/2017. Had to wait the 2 weeks for Echoes and thought I'd go nuts with the withdrawal. Little did I know that on 2/8 (the day after Echoes and the day I finished it) I'd REALLY have it bad.....
Sue, you and Belles rocked this series read! It was fun following you and reading your comments.
Karma Queen wrote: "Am I the only one who posts in this thread lately? ;-)I guess you are. I'm in the first 25% of Glory in Death. I know, I'm behind. I've never read book #2 until now. Kind of nice going back to the beginning of the Eve and Roarke "dance."
Will be starting Purity in Death later this week. I have a long way to go in the series, but I've now worked my way again through all the ones I read before and am listening to them now.
I'm stalled on
Betrayal in Death number 12. I can't seem to find enough time to read it. I was hoping to catch up to the group, but I keep falling behind.
I just started and I am now on #2. Glory in Death. Can’t put them down! I got the first 3 in hard cover form from Turn The Page book Store (her store) and they are signed to me from Nora. Love it!
I am on my second re-read and really enjoying the earlier books since I forgot bits of them over seven years. I joined in on the buddy read and it has been fun to read the discussions and all the different viewpoints. Most fun is enjoying the characters and stories again, they are so good. Just finished Survivor in Death (23) and Divided in Death (21)..both of those were so emotional. I look forward each month now to read and savor the books, Susan Ericksen's narrations are so spot on, I can't imagine them without her.
I am reading Secrets in Death which will bring me up to date on the series. I can't believe I've finally done it.
I read all of these books at least twice and listened to most of them multiple times. I'm an addict. I can't get enough of this series.

Congrats! It’s a mixed blessing as you now have to wait for the next ones😬
