Hannah (normalgirl) I want to be baptized. I heard from a Catholic nun that as long as you have the desire to be baptized and you die too early before it is done that you still go to heaven, but maybe more lke limbo for unbaptized babies. What are your thoughts?

message 3: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (normalgirl) I know what you mean, but it is so hard to find the right Church.

I think they go to Heaven. They are pure.

Hannah (normalgirl) With orginial sin still on their souls?
I think so too. Babies cannot go to Hell.

Lucy ~Graphite Wizard~ Yeah. It is impossible to commit a sin when your that small and adoreable. (unless you are an evil mastermind baby)

It is called the baptism of desire and it is my understanding that if you have the desire and intent to be baptized but circumstances beyond your control prevent it, it is just as valid as the baptism by water. Baptism, like all sacraments, is an outward sign instituted by God to give grace, but man cannot limit God's power to give grace. Just as someone who dies for the faith, a martyr, would be with God after death in heaven, even if they had not been baptized with water. That is called baptism by blood. God's grace is more powerful than man's limitations.

Hannah (normalgirl) So beautifully said, Barbara. Thank you.

You are very welcome, Hannah. As far as finding the right church, I have another thought. Jesus said, "I am the Vine and you are the branches; apart from me you can do nothing." If you have the desire to be baptized and become a member of the Body of Christ, I have to believe that desire is part of God's grace-filled plan for you. If we pray to know what His will is for us and then follow that to the best of our ability, He will certainly lead us. If you ask Him to guide you, He will guide you to the church He has in mind for you. I will pray for wisdom, guidance, and peace for you.

message 10: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (normalgirl) Thank you so much, Barbara. I need all the guidance I can get. Life tries to steer you astray and it takes so much energy to stay on the right path. So many ugly thing have happened in my life and God has gotten me through every single one of them, even without his Holy Spirit inside of me. So, I have to believe that my desire allowed Him to enter my heart.

Barbara Hosbach | 8 comments Thanks for sharing, Hannah. I have to believe that if we are sincerely asking God to show us what He wants us to do, He will. If we keep asking and following to the best of our ability, we will end up where we need to be. Jesus kept inviting people to follow him, not figure it out on their own.

Yes, I agree.

message 17: by Jojo (new)

Jojo | 1 comments Catholics believe baptism is necessary for salvation.
VATICAN II declared this in #7 of it’s decree Ad Gentes:
“Therefore, all must be converted to Him, made known by the Church's preaching, and all must be incorporated into Him by baptism and into the Church which is His body. For Christ Himself "by stressing in express language the necessity of faith and baptism (cf. Mark 16:16; John 3:5), at the same time confirmed the necessity of the Church, into which men enter by baptism, as by a door. Therefore those men cannot be saved, who though aware that God, through Jesus Christ founded the Church as something necessary, still do not wish to enter into it, or to persevere in it." (Dogmatic constitution by Vatican II: Lumen Gentium 14) Therefore though God in ways known to Himself can lead those inculpably ignorant of the Gospel to find that faith without which it is impossible to please Him (Heb. 11:6), yet a necessity lies upon the Church (1 Cor. 9:16), and at the same time a sacred duty, to preach the Gospel. And hence missionary activity today as always retains its power and necessity.”
baptize all u can

message 18: by Zelie (new)

Zelie (zelie01) The sacrament of water Baptism is absolutely necessary for salvation. It's a dogma.

Pope Eugene IV, The Council of Florence, “Exultate Deo,” Nov. 22, 1439: “Holy baptism, which is the gateway to the spiritual life, holds the first place among all the sacraments; through it we are made members of Christ and of the body of the Church. And since death entered the universe through the first man, ‘unless we are born again of water and the Spirit, we cannot,’ as the Truth says, ‘enter into the kingdom of heaven’ [John 3:5]. The matter of this sacrament is real and natural water.”

"Baptism of desire" does not save anyone and was never taught by the Church. It was an error believed by some Church men, but they were wrong because the "theory" contradicts infallible dogmas.
