Travis (the_hero_of_canton) Thank you, Mr. Scalzi. I think that settles that. And I for one am glad that most geeks follow Scalzi's definition and attitude. As a jock turned geek, I would hate to be told I can't be a Firefly obsessed sci-fi lovin' geek just because I can shoot a basketball and occasionally go outside.

Stan Slaughter | 359 comments Love this quote from the link

"...the true sign of a geek is a delight in sharing a thing. It’s the major difference between a geek and a hipster, you know: When a hipster sees someone else grooving on the thing they love, their reaction is to say “Oh, crap, now the wrong people like the thing I love.” When a geek sees someone else grooving on the thing they love, their reaction is to say “ZOMG YOU LOVE WHAT I LOVE COME WITH ME AND LET US LOVE IT TOGETHER.”..."

And another

"...Just let her be to do her thing. Because here’s a funny fact: Her geekdom is not about you. At all. It’s about her..."

Next order of business: Being called a nerd is not a insult. During the SOPA hearings the stupid committee members kept declaring they weren't nerds. My main gripe is if you aren't a nerd then what the hell are you doing on a committee deciding what one could call a "nerd" issue.

Fast forward the video to 3 mins 30 seconds. Pissed me off!

I saw that video and irony of the situation made me laugh hard. It seemed I could never be pissed off enough to do it justice.

Keith (keithatc) Being on a committee that decides internationally influential internet law and not understanding the internet or computers isn't not being a nerd; it is, however, being a moron.

Especially, when none of them seems to be able to come up with a simple idea, that is asking the experts about the technical aspects or whether their ridiculous proposals are even applicable to the problems they seem so sure that exist.
