stm, cellos or violas?

Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 8, RV 315, "L'estate" (Summer)
Concerto No. 3 in F major, Op. 8, RV 293, "L'autunno" (Autumn)
Concerto No. 4 in F minor, Op. 8, RV 297, "L'inverno" (Winter)

There are three movements to each concerto.

message 587: by Sam (new)

Sam (Readlovelaughlive) | 4404 comments Not a big fan of operas; I've never performed one, which may be the reason. I like arias though. But definitely musical - nothing beats the triple threats of acting, singing and dancing!

stm, would you pursue a professional career in music if you could?

OHMYGOODNESS! I AM TELLING AARON TO LEARN THIS PIECE IMMEDIATELY! IT'S SO PRETTTYYYYYYY

haha I just said, "Forget the Mendelssohn, DVORAK in A!" (And I'm sure I just insulted every single violinist ever who ever was serious and ever learned and memorized the Mendelssohn as their rite of passage hahaha... ohhh the Mendelssohn...)

we are never going to change this topic!!!!!! :D :D :D

stm, do you like Ravel, or is he too soft?

message 597: by Sam (new)

Sam (Readlovelaughlive) | 4404 comments ORCHESTRA. I can't even explain the beauty of being in the middle of throbbing power and sound. It's the most invigorating thing ever. It's like a drug. I think pieces sound gorgeous, but they sound unbelievably better when you're in the middle, playing, blending with all the notes of every harmony written, and the sound ricocheting across the concert hall. You can feel the downbeat pounding, the ground shaking with the brass section, every atom consumed by the synchronized strings. I can't even explain it. It's this crazy high of adrenaline and awe, and I wouldn't give it up for any solo career. It's unbelievable how so much talent and sound is trapped in one room, and each piece is carefully planned, every note with a story, a person behind it. And all of that unity, that bond, that connection in order to play solidly as a group. A good orchestra has to be like family. Everyone has to know everyone, has to love everyone, has to care about everyone. It's less about the groove, and more about the power. So there's so much unity. I swear I'm going to cry on the last day of orchestra...

I can't answer that as I have not listened to Ravel.

stm, which Ravel piece should I listen to?

message 599: by Sam (new)

Sam (Readlovelaughlive) | 4404 comments um, well, Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess has a gorgeous flute solo :3 haha. and it's airy and transparent; a very difficult style to play.

stm, do you like the Mendelssohn, and do you think it's worthy of it's place in the violinist's repertoire?

message 600: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm listening to Miroirs - it's very pretty. <3 Soft is nice.

Yes, I do like the Mendelssohn. It is quite worthy. :)

stm, do you prefer the faster or slower pieces?
