Sheri Agreed..fires may have been put out if he was up front with her.. But I can see his apprehension about throwing it out there
'welcome home, meet your family. Oh by the way- it wasn't a hunter you've been hiding from, it is your psycho Uncle..your evil mum murdered your da, and tried to take you out too. I hunted & killed her. And you are also bound to me, my blessed mate for the rest of your days.'
Probably wouldn't have gone over too well.
I think the nightmare soothing turned hot & heavy was unintentional. He is a twenty four year old guy- not always making rational decisions. Plus he didn't know for sure that it would cause the private mating.

Sheri Ohhh ya-the first kiss was so sweet. The waterworks was a nice touch. I think their first run together was my fav!

Amy (amy_pearce) | 51 comments I loved the run and the first kiss too with bursting pipes!!! Have to admit though I also loved it when she threw Alexa across the room ;)

Sheri Right on- putting her in her place was a high on my list too!!

Kathy Horsman (kathywithak27) i loved this book but I'm not entirely sold on Lucien. It was like a roller coaster from the start; protective, kind, angry, stubborn and understanding. Even when he sort of made up for it, I never saw him as I did in the beginning. I can, however, understand he has to make tough choices for the pack, even if that means making a mistake

Hey guys! I can stay on long enough to say thanks for sharing. You have mirrored my feelings throughout the book. I was aggravated by both Caia and Lucien. Why must they always fight their feelings? I was often frustrated with his Pack/Alpha attitude, knowing she hadn't been a part of that world for so long. I think she wouldn't have doubted herself and his true feelings had he shared them sooner. I understood most of his reasoning.
I also had a lot of sympathy for both of them. Her only relationship all this time has been with a girl who just wanted to go home. How could she trust what she was feeling and know that he wasn't just "doing his job". At the same time, I give Lucien a bit more slack. Not only is he an high strung, emotional lycan, but he is the Alpha, making him somewhat more volatile and impulse. Nature takes over and her reactions were a result of her having been kept away.
One of my favorite scenes is the "accidental mating". I also love Caia kicking Alexa's butt. I love any scene where Caia shows her strength. Another favorite is most definitely the first run. So playful and intimate. Very moving.
So...keep on chatting. We'll pop in as we can. Your thoughts have been wonderful and I'd love to see more folks drop in and share as well. We'll get more detailed as the convo continues.

How about telling us who a favorite secondary character is a d why? I will tell you my actual fave of the series is Jaeden. Obvious reason...she's been through hell and back. She loves her Pack and will do anything to defend them and what she believes in. I guess that could be said for most of the Pack, but what she endures and how she comes out of it, was really phenomenal to me. I also love Ryder and his silly obsession with American Pop culture.

I loved Jaeden and Ryder as well...although I'm not sure what Jaeden I actually like (since one was the "fake" Jaeden...I kinda liked her!) but I guess I'll find out in the next book, if it's true 'fandom' or not....I think Ryder is so entertaining and I love his loyalty to Lucien...I also really loved Seb, I thought he was so entertaining, and I definitely mourned with them when he died...

Good night, Amy-everyone!!! Thanks for taking the time to stop by. I'm sorry I couldn't be more involved tonight. Very poor planning on my part and again, I apologize.
The conversation will continue and if I can get word on approximately what time(s) Sam will be able to join us, I will be sure to let you know. Otherwise, keep an eye out for a post from her.
More discussion tomorrow and like I said, if you feel inclined, keep the chat going and we'll jump in whenever possible. Thanks for much for being a part of the group. We really appreciate you. Happy reading! Catch you all tomorrow! :D

Sheri (sheric12) | 22 comments I was frustrated with Caia and Lucien resisting their feelings for each other but also understood why that tension was there. My favorite thing about the book was the weaving of witch/magic and werewolves into one. That was really clever and a fun take on paranormal books I have read in the past.

message 65: by Deann (last edited Aug 23, 2012 09:04PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Deann (bakerette2010) | 17 comments I have to admit from the beginning I had stronger feelings for Seb. I don't know what exactly lead me to choose him over Lucien. I guess i felt Caia's feelings for the pack leader were infatuated because of his constant presence after her return. Although I wasn't all that surprised when the mating was revealed.
I was however surprised that it had been Jeaden who had been captured. And saddened by Seb's fate.
I loved when Caia shoved Alexa's chair the second time and Seb rescued her from the school.

Laura Holland (lockets) | 31 comments I found Lucien to be such a man! Lol! Thats the best way i can put it, i found with a lot of he's actions i was slapping myself in the face dumbfounded or shaking my book in frustration by what he was doing and how he honestly thought that Caia wouldn't possibly take what he has done the wrong way! Such as the mating! But it made a brilliant read and quite funny! :)

As for a secondary character i would have to say its a toss up between Seb and Ryder...
But i would have to say more Seb. I was gutted when he's fate was not the one i had invisioned :( But that whole bit was superbly written, really pulls on the heart strings and then some...

Sheri Sorry I had to bail last night- sleep was calling. Fav secondary-
Easy, Ryder. Lucien is lucky to have such an incredible best friend. Jae is awesome, but I agree that I am not sure 'who' she really is. Looking forward to finding out in the next one!
Question...
Caia is hurt, recovering.
Lucien is grappling with his 'in your face' realization of his feelings for her.
If Seb hadn't burst in putting a kink in the moment- Would Lucien & Cy possibly had a mutual revelation of their feelings?

Keira Garner (kiki-lu) | 6 comments Ryder was definatly my fave secondary love him to bits and i love the way he is with Cy when they are all having dinner and Lucien gets all 'Grrrrrr' because he dosent understand what they are talking about, I did find the relationship between Lucien and Caia rather frustrating towards the end of the book there were also points where i wanted to jump into the book and slap Lucien around at times for just being a man and not really seeing things from Cy's P.O.V but genraly the book is fantasticly writen. It has all the hummor and the tears that you want from a great book!!!!! I was very very upset with the chapter 'Gone' it was like a huge slap in the face you knew there was nothing they could do for seb bit i was still holding out hope for him he was a lovely friend to both Caia and Jaeden.
P.s sorry i wasnt on last night.

I love the "weaving" too. Sam did a great job of mixing the different species and showing how they work well or against each other. So many manipulations. I'm a big fan of the magiks anyway, so I really love the those parts.

Seb was a sweet guy. For me, Caia's feelings were natural. She just didn't remember everything having been taken away so young. They were close from the start, though Lucien fought the mating even before he took off. Iwas totally shocked over Jae's capture. And her scenes were hard for me to handle. So intense. She's a great character. I think she just gets better.

Lol. I love your reactions. I think we all felt the same, a time or two. It's obvious Lucien is older, but not wiser when it comes to relationships. He's also not used to a woman that doesn't throw herself at him and fight for what she really wants.
In my re-reading, I haven't come to Seb's demise. But, boy did it make me cry the first time around. He was just such a nice kid.

Exactly why I love Ry. He's so genuine and really helped Cy feel save and at ease. Every girl needs a guy friend like that. And he was great comedy relief when having to constantly deal with Lucien's intensity.

For me, Seb is the friend every girl wishes she had.

I absolutley LOVED the mythology part of it. It helped create a past, present and set up a future in the story. I sometimes read books that jump into greek myths or others and either do not know the myth they are talking about or know it and can not understand where it fits in. Moon Spell explained the connection and told its own story, it was AWESOME!

I loved it! I was always interested in Greek Mythology I enjoyed it being added into the story and I love how she worked it in so nicely.

Bella (bellabunnell) | 244 comments Mod
Lol Amy! I thought that's what you meant.
I loved the mythology mixed with the modern supernaturals. So clever. You can see Sam is very knowledgeable. The way she weaves and rearranges it to make it all fresh and new, but still consistent with the Greek mythological history. Brilliant!
I read them all back to back as well. I was so upset that I had the print copies of bks 1 &2, but not 3. I didn't have a fancy phone or kindle then and had to read the kindle version on my 2" screen. I didn't care...I had to know what was to become of this pack and all the other crazy cool characters. It is soooo good and addicting.

message 88: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy (amy_pearce) | 51 comments I completely understand! I couldn't wait either I had to read them all as soon as I could lol

Bella (bellabunnell) | 244 comments Mod
Exactly, Amy! I'm sorry we haven't had Sam appear yet. She's had a very eventful weekend and probably hasn't read her reminders. ;)
Please keep the conversation going. Bring up anything you'd like. What is something about the story you didn't like? I'm not talking grammar or structure. ie: a character that you loved to hate or a circumstance that was hard to take...like Seb's death or Jae's capture and torture. Something about the story or the world she's built.
Anything that really stood out to you and made the story memorable and exciting?

message 90: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy (amy_pearce) | 51 comments I was very sad finding out that it had been Jae who was captured. She was so sweet and such a good friend to Cy through everything... and knowing how sweet she was made it hard to know all the torture she was going through :(

Bella (bellabunnell) | 244 comments Mod
I really struggled through the scenes where she was tortured. Sam is so descriptive, I really felt like I was there. It was hard to endure. The way she came through it gave me a new appreciation for her. I like her before. I thought she was kick ass after. That's what made her my fave. She was completely broken and still back from it. Not whole, but she survived it.

message 92: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna (amartinischwob) | 31 comments I loved how despite how they felt about how different Caia was, the pack still showed their loyalty, like when those boys were threatening her at school and Mal steps in to help her, even though he doesn't like her, the scenes like that were awesome moments...I know it's probably the same in many other wolf-type stories, but I like seeing the interaction and how it integrated with the storyline...definitely added to the really critical scenes!

Bella (bellabunnell) | 244 comments Mod
So true, Anna. It is pack behavior, but like you said, to them she was different almost an outsider, yet they stood by her. Mal is kind of a jerk, but I like him. He comes through when he has to.
So many good scenes. I just love this story so much.

Laura Holland (lockets) | 31 comments I think there is more to Mal, i think he hides behind this egotiscal fascade but i bet if he let he's guard down for 5 minutes he would actually be a really nice guy :)
I loved the Greek Mythology aspect, but then i have always had a love for it anyway but i think Sam uses it really well within the storyline!
I think the most memorible scene in this book for me would have to be when Caia is sat down for dinner with Lucien, Ryder, Jae, and co and that whole scene was very funny especially Lucien's reaction to Ryder's and Caia's interaction lol!!!

message 95: by Sara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sara | 8 comments I loved Caia's interactions with the younger members of the pack. It just seemed so "real" - if you can say that about a book involving werewolves! - and it made the book flow so smoothly. I was, however, a totally broken woman when Seb died, and I have to admit to a little sniffle or two :S. I'll hold my hands up now - I adored Lucien, even though I think some of his decisions weren't the wisest BUT I also loved Seb, and a small part of me wanted Caia to give him a chance.

The key to Sam's writing for me is she truly made me care about the characters - and if you can do that as an author you've succeeded where many have failed.

message 98: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Young (samyoung) | 4 comments Sorry! I was just reading over all the comments, and first of all I just want to thank everyone for their reviews. You're all awesome. I also want to apologize for not stopping by yesterday when I was supposed to :( As Shelley mentioned I was in my best friend's wedding and I ended up not returning home this weekened until a few hours ago - I've been answering emails via crappy internet connection and didn't see my reminders for the discussion! I'm so sorry!

Your comments made me grin HUGE! You all got Lucien and Caia exactly as I wanted my readers too. Yes, they are frustrating pains in the ass :p And yes, you're spot on about why, which just makes me the happiest author ever :) Lucien is an Alpha male (douchebag sometimes lol) and used to being obeyed and not used to being questioned. Caia's been too long away from the pack environment to accommodate his overbearing, overprotective, Mr. Right all the time attitude, and so despite their attraction and genuine affection for one another, in Moon Spell (and throughout the trilogy really as it only takes place over the course of a few months) they're like any couple - they're getting to know each other and under their extreme circumstances, they're tripping up and making mistakes. Arggh! :p

As for some of your fav scenes - they're all mine too. I loved Caia shooting Alexa across the room... I was itching to write that scene from the moment they first meet outside the school. And also, Caia and Lucien's first run together - it's probably my favorite scene from the whole book :)

My biggest surprise from readers and from you guys is the reaction to Seb's death. I was of course saddened when I wrote it because as a writer I become attached to all my characters, but I was in no way expecting everyone to be as heartbroken by Seb's death as they have been. It's awesome for me to see that even secondary characters have come alive for readers, so thank you :)

Anyhoo, I saw some of you have already started reading book 2 and 3 and I'm hoping you all enjoy the rest of the trilogy.

Thanks again for your great comments, and if you ever have any questions just send me an email.

XoXo
Sam

Kathryn (kgrimes) | 148 comments Mod
Thanks for coming by Sam and answering any questions and giving us some insight in to these fantastic characters as well as the story of Moon Spell!!

Lucien and Caia's first run is one of my favorites too!! And of course the first kiss scene others have mentioned!!!

Where I liked Seb as a friend, I would find myself getting irritated with him when he was coming between Caia and Lucien... No matter how pig-headed Lucien was acting... But, it was heart wrenching to have him die and watch the mourning of his pack..,,
