Thoughts? Opinions? I'm hesitant to start talking lest you check this before finished.

Megan | 34 comments I am on Chapter 3 and so far I do not hate it. I should have it finished in a day or two.

Since I read by Kindle, I am not sure which chapter it got really good in, but I know around 15% I began to like Lena and the stuff hit the fan. The beginning bit is really quite repetitive with the constant "I want to be fixed so I don't suffer" stuff.

Megan | 34 comments I am to the part where Lena is going running with Hana, right after her run in with the cows ( and of course the winking invalid boy). I don't know if you read The Hunger Games or not; but so far, this book is similar in a few ways with the "invalids in the wild" and the government swearing they don't exist, the cities being bordered for the "citizen's protection" etc. However, I do like the whole "cure for love" thing. It seems ( so far) to be a nice/different plot than other books of the same genre.

I guess you have figured out that you will hear from the winking invalid again. I sweat that dude makes me swoom later. I'm sorry. But it's true. And in book 2 I swoon some too. Yes, I am embarrassed.

But yes, I hadn't heard the cure for love take yet at all. I would say that Hunger Games is more of a future dystopian, whereas this one is sort of an alternative present, too. I had forgotten that District 13 is supposed to be bombed out and doesn't exist officially in most of The Hunger Games. It has been a couple of years since I read those!

Megan | 34 comments As soon as he winked at her I was like "hes the main guy". I was so excited when she was riding her bike to Back Cove to meet up with him, then I was so let down when it was all for nothing. Already I can see why he would make you swoon. There is just something about those mischievous, glint in the eye type guys. I am now at the graduation part and I am going to make a prediction: Alex is an invalid who is pretending to be cured..( the cured marks are fake) and he is intrigued by Lena since he watched her evaluation. Or, he was cured but it didn't take ( like Lena's mother) and is working with side by side with the invalids. Just a prediction that is subject to change lol.

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
You are whipping right along, then!

I honestly can't wait until next year when 3 comes out. I was tense reading parts of these books... You know, I claim to never like romance type things, and I wouldn't call this a romance, but apparently I do enjoy some love stuff. :D

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
You are coming up with some very interesting predictions, indeed!

Megan | 34 comments ha ha! The marks are fake!! I am to the part with the raid... Hana went to the party with her new friend.. At this point I am a little annoyed with Lena. I am irritated because of the way she treated Alex, when two seconds before she was worried he would be the same way to her ( she told him about her mother) and how relieved she was when he didn't shun her, but when he opens up she doesn't hesitate to run from him. Granted, I feel her reasons are valid for her trepidation..still annoying though. lol Or the issues with her and Hana.. GET OVER IT..you have one last summer...enjoy it while you can. sheesh. haha. Overall though, I am enjoying the book.

Megan | 34 comments New predictions LOL... Lena doesn't get cured or married.. she goes rogue with Alex.. ( maybe this one is a little more wishful thinking than a prediction) lol
I do believe I will be starting the second book when I finish with this one. You have finished the second book already right?

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
I most definitely did.

Megan | 34 comments Okay I finished the book....I do not know if I can read the second one... I am sitting here glaring at it, because I am worried Alex is not in it!!!!! So depressing!

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
Wasn't it.mega depressing and sad? I couldn't sleep after I read it for awhile. I finished it at like 1 am and was up for some time.

Megan | 34 comments So... I know this is cheating..but is Alex in the second book? and about how far in until hes around? You aren't giving anything away, it is motivation for me to read the second. lol

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
There is a strong chance he may have lived.

Let's just say book 2 is also swoonworthy and frustrating.

Megan | 34 comments Rhonda wrote: "There is a strong chance he may have lived.

Okay, so I am going to go out on a limb here and say there is a love triangle..Maybe I am just a romantic at heart but I hate books with love triangles!!! Is it so much to ask that Lena loves Alex forever? lol

There may or may not be a love triangle. When you think someone is dead, whether they are or are not, sometimes you move on. And, sometimes what you may or may not move on with might grow on the person reading about you. ;)

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
If there were two male love interests, i suspect both might be endearing in their own ways and might leave you conflicted.

Megan | 34 comments You are right, of course. I just don't think they have closed the door with Alex. There hasn't been closure or anything yet. I started reading the second book and if the new love interest is who I think it is; hes a whine-sack.

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
People can change, but yes... He kind of sucks at first.

Megan | 34 comments I finished the second book....oh my I can't wait for the third.

Megan wrote: "I finished the second book....oh my I can't wait for the third."

I know, right?! Should be out next spring I think. Do you think Alex was mostly pissed, that he'll be all changed by his stint in prison? Or was that a cocky, now that I'm back she doesn't need you sort of response there at the end?

Megan | 34 comments the way I read it, Alex was changed ( and maybe not for the better) and cold when he said that. I think he meant it as " Lena can't be trusted. she will break your heart just like she has mine." also I don't think Alex is going to be the one trying to win her back, she will have to gain his trust back and that might not happen cause I have a feeling he's not the same person anyone. what she fell in love with might not be there now. I find it very disheartening cause I want her and Alex to get back together so badly! Julian just didn't do it for me.

Megan | 34 comments also, the person who rescued her turning out to be her mom didn't surprise me at all... dunno about you, but I saw that coming a mile away...it was female..knew her name and wasn't raven...only one person it could have been..lol

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
Definitely didn't shock me.

I had a definite book crush on Alex. But I thought Julian ws cute in a trainable clean slate puppy way.

Megan | 34 comments Julian was cute, I can't argue that. However, I think it was the "trainable clean slate way" that threw me off of him. First off, without Alex, Lena as we have come to know her wouldn't exist. Granted, Lena was, at first, just like Julian is now; but, Alex didn't try to train her he would let her make her own mind up about everything. Plus, at this point Lena has been through a lot and has grown up some, to stay with Julian would be to have a child for a boyfriend and I think she's beyond that. I think my preference to Alex is because we had time throughout the book to love him as a lead character. Julian just can't compare. Sadly though, I don't see Lena and Alex working out. Alex wont be the soft, loving Alex from the first book. He will be more along the lines of Tack's personality. With Alex being around I do see Lena having conflicting emotions and becoming more distant with Julian...which will make him a cry baby, I'm sure. lol

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
Your description of how Alex will turn out reminds me of an Alex in another book. The Bronze Horseman. Have you read that? If not, it's basically about some world war two shit, some enticing that is totally different than the Alex Lena story, but kind of the same at the root of it. By the third book, when he comes back and tries to readjust to civilian life and he was this swoonworthy guy, he's kind of a douche.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Part of me hope she dumps them both and just gets a new man. I think it'll end up kind of like the Peeta/Katniss thing though, and at the end of the trilogy there will be some Alex/Lena or something.

Megan | 34 comments I could not stand book 3 of hunger games!!! I wanted Peeta and Katniss together but the way they ended up together sucked. I have higher hopes for Lena and Alex. I kinda want her to get someone who is a mesh of Julian and Alex, but at the same time I am still an Alex fan. It never stated how long it took Lena to get over Alex, but it seemed like it look about 3 months...if so, I kind of think that was a little quick to be moving on to Julian.

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
I got the idea it was about 8 months to a year before she met Julian

Megan | 34 comments maybe it was....my thoughts were, she was told to stop running cause it was hot...so summerish...but she left Portland before winter...then they had to move south for the winter...then it jumps to her in New York and in school and when they rescued Julian it was rainy...granted it can rain anytime but people were in raincoats...so I guessed spring...so 6 months tops lol..not that it matters. =p

Richard Holloway | 21 comments AHHHHHHHHHHHH.... spoiling the second book. Had to go to bottom of page and focus on this little box. Even though i'm a dude, i enjoyed this book. There wasn't too much smooching. While ya'll see Alex as 'swoon worthy', i thought he was kind of a badass. If this series goes towards them trying to bring down the government that would be great. Overall i would recommend this book to a few people i know will like it. Good first book for the group.

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
Sorry Richard, I don't think we thought any one else was going to read it.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I read some reviews where people felt it was "too much like Hunger Games." I think a lot of similarities there end with it being dystopian, personally. And perhaps the division of cities vs. districts, which I think Megan brought up. I think overall this book was a really different novel and series.

Richard Holloway | 21 comments The similarities are hardly there. I didn't think about the similarities until i read Megan and yours conversation so they were not even a factor for my review. i probably would never read this book again but it was a good read.

Megan | 34 comments the similarities are vague, which is good...to me, saying this book was like the hunger games is like saying chicken and beef are similar because they are both meat. with so many authors putting out so many books it is hard to find plots that don't have at least something in common. I enjoyed this book/series, but I wouldn't read it again. I will say that the first book was better than the second, in my opinion. however, I think that's because of my character preference lol. I do think that the series is heading in the direction of overthrowing the current government. I hope the third book in this series is done differently than the third book of the hunger games...the last book in that series ruined the whole series for me.

Richard Holloway | 21 comments It did for me as well. I felt like she didn't put much effort in the third book. Like she tried to hurry up and tie up all the lose ends.

Rhonda (rhondaxe) | 41 comments Mod
I think ending a series is always tricky. When your fans have invested so much time and love into your series, it is bound to disappoint. So, you get steaming turds like Dark Tower 7, or the other option is to just not end the series--like Outlander. :D

I actually didn't mind book 3, though I thought the Peeta Katniss hook up epilogue was mostly unfortunate.

And yes, I believe Requiem will focus on the resistance. I kind of hope it's not just a trilogy, because I suspect the resistance could take at least a couple of books. Perhaps a good approach could be ending the current happenings, and then other books focusing onthe resistance. Just seems she's created enough of a world she should be able to keep it going for awhile without it starting to suck. She writes well... effortlessly.

I went on and read her first book, Before I Fall. The beginning had me so irked with the character I could barely stand continuing, but by the last page I was almost openly weeping. She had me eating out of her damned hand, in other words. It's rare that a book moves me to emotion.

Megan | 34 comments I think it will be a trilogy simply because all the popular books of this genre are. I hope I'm wrong. I am excited that part of the book will be from hanas point of view, although she's basically a zombie at this point so it might flop. of course unless the cure didn't work.

I was soo mad at how katniss and peeta ended up together it was very unfortunate, as you said Rhonda.I kind of felt cheated by it. however, I ranted to my boyfriend about it cause God knows he will never pick up that series to read and he said if the hunger games were real and all of that actually happened, then it stands to reason that the way things went with peeta and katniss was right and logical. things don't always end the way we want, and I see his point but I don't read these types of books for logical endings lol.

Richard Holloway | 21 comments WTF!!! That ending was crazy. I bet Alex is pissed that he sacrificed so much for her and as soon as he sees her again she's hanging all over Julian. I figured that since she found out how she was used during the whole kidnapping thing it would have affected her feelings for Julian. That she had no control over it, that it was Raven's plan for her an him to hook up.
Another thing As soon as Lana said to her rescuer that she had no right to use her name I was like ah ha... That's her mom. But damn Lana finds out her mom is alive and then she has to deal with the love triangle and then the pressures of being in the resistance. She going to be a mess in the third book. Julian needs to die and she needs to know for certain Thats how I would handle the love triangle. Overall I liked the second one better.
