Since I read by Kindle, I am not sure which chapter it got really good in, but I know around 15% I began to like Lena and the stuff hit the fan. The beginning bit is really quite repetitive with the constant "I want to be fixed so I don't suffer" stuff.

I guess you have figured out that you will hear from the winking invalid again. I sweat that dude makes me swoom later. I'm sorry. But it's true. And in book 2 I swoon some too. Yes, I am embarrassed.
But yes, I hadn't heard the cure for love take yet at all. I would say that Hunger Games is more of a future dystopian, whereas this one is sort of an alternative present, too. I had forgotten that District 13 is supposed to be bombed out and doesn't exist officially in most of The Hunger Games. It has been a couple of years since I read those!

You are whipping right along, then!
I honestly can't wait until next year when 3 comes out. I was tense reading parts of these books... You know, I claim to never like romance type things, and I wouldn't call this a romance, but apparently I do enjoy some love stuff. :D

I do believe I will be starting the second book when I finish with this one. You have finished the second book already right?

Wasn't it.mega depressing and sad? I couldn't sleep after I read it for awhile. I finished it at like 1 am and was up for some time.

There is a strong chance he may have lived.
Let's just say book 2 is also swoonworthy and frustrating.

Okay, so I am going to go out on a limb here and say there is a love triangle..Maybe I am just a romantic at heart but I hate books with love triangles!!! Is it so much to ask that Lena loves Alex forever? lol

There may or may not be a love triangle. When you think someone is dead, whether they are or are not, sometimes you move on. And, sometimes what you may or may not move on with might grow on the person reading about you. ;)

If there were two male love interests, i suspect both might be endearing in their own ways and might leave you conflicted.

I know, right?! Should be out next spring I think. Do you think Alex was mostly pissed, that he'll be all changed by his stint in prison? Or was that a cocky, now that I'm back she doesn't need you sort of response there at the end?

Definitely didn't shock me.
I had a definite book crush on Alex. But I thought Julian ws cute in a trainable clean slate puppy way.

Your description of how Alex will turn out reminds me of an Alex in another book. The Bronze Horseman. Have you read that? If not, it's basically about some world war two shit, some enticing that is totally different than the Alex Lena story, but kind of the same at the root of it. By the third book, when he comes back and tries to readjust to civilian life and he was this swoonworthy guy, he's kind of a douche.
I guess we'll have to wait and see. Part of me hope she dumps them both and just gets a new man. I think it'll end up kind of like the Peeta/Katniss thing though, and at the end of the trilogy there will be some Alex/Lena or something.

Sorry Richard, I don't think we thought any one else was going to read it.
I am glad you enjoyed it. I read some reviews where people felt it was "too much like Hunger Games." I think a lot of similarities there end with it being dystopian, personally. And perhaps the division of cities vs. districts, which I think Megan brought up. I think overall this book was a really different novel and series.

I think ending a series is always tricky. When your fans have invested so much time and love into your series, it is bound to disappoint. So, you get steaming turds like Dark Tower 7, or the other option is to just not end the series--like Outlander. :D
I actually didn't mind book 3, though I thought the Peeta Katniss hook up epilogue was mostly unfortunate.
And yes, I believe Requiem will focus on the resistance. I kind of hope it's not just a trilogy, because I suspect the resistance could take at least a couple of books. Perhaps a good approach could be ending the current happenings, and then other books focusing onthe resistance. Just seems she's created enough of a world she should be able to keep it going for awhile without it starting to suck. She writes well... effortlessly.
I went on and read her first book, Before I Fall. The beginning had me so irked with the character I could barely stand continuing, but by the last page I was almost openly weeping. She had me eating out of her damned hand, in other words. It's rare that a book moves me to emotion.

I was soo mad at how katniss and peeta ended up together it was very unfortunate, as you said Rhonda.I kind of felt cheated by it. however, I ranted to my boyfriend about it cause God knows he will never pick up that series to read and he said if the hunger games were real and all of that actually happened, then it stands to reason that the way things went with peeta and katniss was right and logical. things don't always end the way we want, and I see his point but I don't read these types of books for logical endings lol.

Another thing As soon as Lana said to her rescuer that she had no right to use her name I was like ah ha... That's her mom. But damn Lana finds out her mom is alive and then she has to deal with the love triangle and then the pressures of being in the resistance. She going to be a mess in the third book. Julian needs to die and she needs to know for certain Thats how I would handle the love triangle. Overall I liked the second one better.
