Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments I usually don't do alot of posting, but I love reading all the comments.
I'm a little disallusioned right now. I haven't read anything lately that just grabs me and won't let go. So, I thought I would ask everyone if they could recommend something great. I'll give you a list of my absolute favorites and maybe that will help narrow down what I'm after.
My favorites include:
The Black Dagger Brotherhood
Cat and Bones
Kate and Curran
Mercy and Adam
Mac and Barrons
Merit and Ethan
Chess and Terrible

I read alot. And lately everything seems predictable and mundane. I mean, they are perfectly "servicable" books, but nothing that will stay with me like the ones mentioned above. I'm starting to feel like I'm wasting my time.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Are you looking for more romance or action? Some of those are heavier on the romance UF, other are heavier on action UF. Like I would say The Kate Daniels Series is very different from the other ones on your list.

message 3: by Toni (new)

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments I like both. I think it's the relationship with these H/h's that i love. character devlopement does it for me. I like the journey getting there, and the total loyalty i guess. But the plot often drives the character development.
I liked Twilight at the time, and I like the Hunger Games also, but not as much at Kate, Mercy, Cat, etc.
I like it a little more adult.

Maggie (lacr1mation) Maybe try the Hollows series by Kim Harrison. 1st one is Dead Witch Walking.
Sorry if I stole your thunder Zeenat! I know what a fan you are. :)
Also, if you can stand YA, I really loved Vampire Academy. Vampire Academy. Silly title, I know.

message 5: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Tempest Rising is a good one. It's really funny and relatable I think.

Skinwalker has romance, but I think it's pretty light. but it's original in the sense of Jane and her inner "Beast".

Magic to the Bone is a bit dark, but it has a really good romance storyline I think. and I love Shame . . .he's my favorite!

Rosemary and Rue is not heavy on romance, not really much as far as sex goes. but there still are interests and Tybalt is all over sexiness!

Spider's Bite is another favorite of mine.

message 6: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Damn you Maggie ;) lol j/k. The warning I want to give with the Hollows is, the first and 2nd book is really one whole book. They are a bit slow separately, especially the first book. But if you read the first two, and don't like it, then it make sense. It kinda sucks, because authors should make books stand on their own, but you know . . first books :)

message 7: by Toni (new)

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments Thanks for the suggestions.
And thanks for the disclaimer, Zeenat, on the Hollows, because I did read the first one and had planned on reading the series, but it was kind of slow, so i haven't read anymore yet. that gives me the motivation to try the second book.
And i have read Spider's Bite, I liked that series alot too. It doesn't feel done, that's for sure.

message 8: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I think the series picks up with each book . . . and every time I read a book, I wanted to read the next one even more than the last lol.

Did you read the Spider series up until the next book?

message 9: by Josie (new)

Josie | 643 comments I don't know if you'd prefer to stay with UF, but I know when I feel a bit restless I have a change of genre, whether contemporary, dystopian, historical, sci-fi etc.

Alternatively, you could read 'The Disillusionists Trilogy' Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane Double Cross (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #2) by Carolyn Crane Head Rush (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #3) by Carolyn Crane which I adore and would fit with your mood :P

message 10: by Toni (new)

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments Yes, I love Gin Blanco.
I'll give the Hollows another go.
It's hard to find really good series, then when I do...I devour them too fast! I do alot of rereading if I'm not finding anything good. Just reread Kate Daniels. Will read Gunmetal Magic soon. Sure wish they would write faster!

message 11: by Toni (new)

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments I do read alot of different genres. I like regency sometimes, contemporary, etc. I even read the 50 Shades trilogy...thought it was pretty repetative though. I mean....they are doing it again?...really?
I like some BDSM as much as the next, but sheesh...might be nice to have some believable plot too

message 12: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (lacr1mation) Oh, Josie you are soooooo right! The Disillusionists Trilogy is badass!!
What about historical fiction? I've read the 1st 3 Outlander books & really enjoyed'em. & you learn stuff too. ;p Outlander

message 13: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments lol there are better bdsm books than 50 shades out there :) I personally like Roped In. It's a three book series I think, and the 2nd one is my favorite.

message 14: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (lacr1mation) I read 75% of 50 Shades & I'm not sure it should be classified as BDSM. Maybe like "wishes it was BDSM but, the author doesn't really understand the concept". :p

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments Nice! Thanks everyone! I should be able to keep busy with this list of suggestions. I figured I might get a little response...who doesn't like talking about some of their favs? But so far, this is really helping turn my aggravation and apathy around.
Love it!

I second this recommendation, I just read the first book in the series and I thought it was great :)

Karen Marie Moning's Fever series Darkfever and Highlander Beyond the Highland Mist. The Highlander series is a bit of a prequel series to the Fever series. Highlander is more of the romantic genre. The Fever series is more urban fantasy, non stop action.

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments Michelle, those are great suggestions. Too bad I have already read them both. I read the highlander series quite a while ago. I really loved the Fever Series. Who doesn't love some Jericho Barrons. I'm not sure how I feel about continuing with Danni.
I'm starting a book from a pile I got from the library. It's called Standing in the Shadows by Shannon McKenna. It looks pretty long, hope it's worth it.
I have read alot of Kitty Norville, but I lost interest because I just didn't like her "hero".
Can't wait to try some of these suggestions

well....crap! I just found out this is the second book in the series that I'm reading. Good thing I'm not too far into it yet and I can start the first one instead

message 21: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Toni, what are your reading now?

Oh and the spider books are not done. The next book comes out in August, and it looks like it's going to be a game changer . . . and I don't like what the previews and title could be hinting at.

message 22: by Toni (new)

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments I guess it's called the McCloud Brothers Series? At first I thought I missed the first book, but it turns out I have read it...I don't know if that bodes well for the second book or not.
I am looking forward to a new Gin Blanco book. I like her...and Owen. I wanted to punt kick Donovan Caine all the time.
Good on her!!

message 23: by Toni (new)

Toni (tonidh69) | 15 comments ok, so...now I remember why I didn't go immediately to the second book. This series is ok, but it's "slightly" paranormal masquerading as comtemporary. That's confusing to me. It comes off as a cheap way to explain things and forward the plot with no rhyme or reason.
So, I'm picking something up off my pile of TBR that has been there for years. Night Life by Caitlin Kittredge, Nocturne City Series.
When I bought it, I didn't realize it was the first book of a new series. I decided I didn't want to start it until there were a couple of books out.
Hopefully this will be good. I have put some of the suggestions made here on my hold list at the library. So I have to fill the time till they come in.
I guess I'm too impatient to wait. I would forget the book if I bought it when it just came out and had to wait till the next one for a year or more.
Once a series is established, that's when I go for it.
Sucks when I get caught up and then have to wait, but by then I pretty much know the world and can remember it when the next one comes out. Then I don't mind waiting as much.
I'm rambling...sorry. At work and it's kinda slow

Michielle | 13 comments How about the Immortal series? It starts with The Calling and is written by several different authors, with 8 books in total. This series got me started on all the other paranormal books.

I looked that up at my library, and it is only available in audio. And...not available on kindle. what is that?
I'm reading the nocturne city series right now. I'm on the first book. It seems good so far...

I've got the Allie Beckstrom series ready to go, and the first book of the Disallusionist's series, along with the dark swan series.
I'm looking forward to getting to know some new characters while I wait on some old ones with new stories

Michielle | 13 comments Toni wrote: "Michielle wrote: "How about the Immortal series? It starts with The Calling and is written by several different authors, with 8 books in total. This series got me started on all the other paranorma..."

The series is about 5 immortal brothers. Their mothers are ancient goddess, and are a pain to deal with. Each brother has his own book. Four of the brothers are trying to find and save the fifth brother, Tain. But it's hard to say if Tain will still be sane once they find him. There are witches, sidhe, shifters, demigods, goddesses and gods, dream walking, vampires. It has just about everything. The first 5 books are about the brothers. The rest are about other supporting and memorable characters.

Immortals: The Calling – Jennifer Ashley
The Darkening – Robin T. Popp
The Awakening – Joy Nash
The Gathering - Jennifer Ashley
The Redeeming – Jennifer Ashley
The Crossing – Joy Nash
The Haunting – Robin T. Popp
The Reckoning – anthos from all authors

Hi There,
If you feel that the plots are just too predictable at the moment, May I suggest branching into the Fantasy Genre?
I recently read
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch , and it was brilliant! Everytime I thought I knew where the plot was going - he threw in another twist!
though, If you don't like a lot of profanitiesm then I wouldn't go for it... :D
Another Brilliant Fantasy Author is Brandon Sanderson - I haven't come across a single one of his books that I haven't loved!

If you're looking for stick to UF - I dunno if you've tried the Outcast series by Rachel Caine - They're not bad... :D
