Kris (krisrabberman) | 203 comments Post 8: "Books were breathing" -- so true, Mary! Wonderful job - I love the details you included (my family and friends would definitely recognize my crossing the street with an armload of books). I am also impressed you managed to get a carafe of wine away from Don Juan le Graye - I'm wondering how you managed that! :)

It's good to have you along on the trip. :)

So sorry about the Dreary Office Cubicle, though....

Ian was so enthralled by your poetry he passed out in sheer wonder (aka he was wasted). Dreary Office Cubicle also comes along with a built in clueless bimbo boss, so I can GoodReads most of my day away...

Briss-bin of course! I didn't have to go look that up after your comment, no of course not. I knew that.

Kris (krisrabberman) | 203 comments Interview post 9 -- well done, Traveller! I had no idea that there were so many different options for aromas - I'm relieved that Don Juan led you to one with alliteration - that's important in a cleaner.

And the frozen food section ... and Don Juan's reminding you of an Egyptian pharoah ... laughing here.... :)

Stephen M | 43 comments Ha! Trav, that was sweet. I had a huge dumb grin on my face the whole time. I LOVE how that plays off of Ian's story from before about the rocking boat.

Traveller (moontravlr) | 124 comments I hid a bit of fun in the cleaners and aromas, because i just new you wouldn't read all of them hahaha. And one or 2 Freudian references in the rest as well..

Nice to meet you too, Mary! And nice interview indeed! (Post 8)

Guys, if we carry on like this, we're not going to get any work done this week!

Kris (krisrabberman) | 203 comments Of course, Traveller. :) Your reviews have been inspiring me to stop delaying and move some Miéville out of tbr and into currently reading status.

Kris (krisrabberman) | 203 comments Ian, the interview at post 10 is excellent. What comes next will take a little thinking - but I can assure you, whatever else happens, that Mary and I will drink the wine. :)

Post 12, Steve, excellent. We must Cross the Border, Close the Gap.

message 76: by Kris (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kris (krisrabberman) | 203 comments Post 12 - wonderful job Steve - the narrator is a pitch-perfect Frankenstein's monster of a right-wing monstrosity. I want to get the rest of the cabbage detectives away from Rush-Ann Beckinbaugh as soon as possible.

Steve | 18 comments Thanks. I was a little afraid that writing from that persona could be like crossing my eyes for too long, the fear being that they might get stuck that way.

Kris, I think the rest of the cabbage detectives are safe unless they venture up to Wasilla, Alaska. That's where Rush-Ann is now, planning future campaigns.

Jason (ancatdubh2) | 37 comments Steve that was awesome! Sorry if you had to keep my name hidden because I didn't technically consent. I have been sort of absent from these threads since I only started the book yesterday. I will try to be better. And yes, I consent to whatever!

That Jenn, she as so slow to produce a poem, but when she wrote one it was full of visceral realism

Just in case anyone's interested, up to post 21, we've done just under 7,000 words. See it's easy.

I am very concerned about Jim Neurons-on-stilts possibly having PTSD or some other stress-related disorder.... It was clearly a traumatic experience for him.

My alter ego is Jim Neurons-on-strike. I just can't stand to see plants suffer like that. I feel their pain - at least, I think I did. Something hurt, that was for sure. Maybe it was when Mary rubbed her tummy.

It could have been the coffee - The Brown Shirt Café wasn't known for cleaning the filters very often.

Yes, I seem to remember some brown gritty stuff in my last cup. Not sure if it was coffee, now that I think of it. But the look of satisfaction on Mary's face.... oh, it is all too painful. Sleep, memory... I need rest and meds.
