Just to give an idea of where I'm coming from, here are some of my favorite authors:

Hunter S. Thompson, Kurt Vonnegut, Joseph Heller, Russell Banks, Woody Allen, Larry McMurtry, Robert Stone.

The last thing I read was "Black Sun," a novel by Edward Abbey about a fire tower lookout. He wrote it in 1971 and I liked it the best of all his books.

As for me, I've been a travel writer and photographer for around 30 years and just wrote a fictional memoir about -- SURPRISE! -- a travel writer.
