Heather | 15 comments Our first buddy read lesson: start with the same book :)

Who knew there were two "Prince in the Tower" books with the same cover???

Let that be a lesson to you all :)

Now, we will begin reading the Jenkins' book, not the Weird book. Join us if you will~

Sabrina This book is taking me a little longer than the other one did. There is so much information thrown in there.

Is it just me or does Queen Elizabeth seem like a piece of work? I don't know much about her, but this is the 2nd book I've read that portrays her as a big "B" for a lack of a better word.

I look forward to discussing the book.

Well, historically speaking she was both wonderful and a Big B, depending on her mood and the circumstances. She was as ruthless as her grandfather, Henry VII, when it came to defending her crown and that's pretty understandable in a Monarch. I think most of the time she acted horrible it was because she was flat out neurotic about the topic of marriage ... for anyone. However, looking at the way marriage effected everyone she loved as a child, I can't say I wouldn't have been loopy about it too.

Hello Kyra, sorry about the delay in responding. . I'm in the NE and we are without power :-(.

We are talking about 2 different Queens - I was referring to Elizabeth Woodville - King Edward IV's wife. My fault, I probably should have referenced her this way in my ealier comment. I don't have much experience with her, but she seemed *tough*.

Queen Elizabeth I, so as much as I've read so far, I'm a fan :-).

I've read both Princes in the Tower by Weir and Jenkins and I was surprised at first at how both books focus all around the boys, but not on them. It makes sense now that I've read the books, but was still surprised in the beginning.

Kyra Kramer | 48 comments I'm sorry to hear you're without power -- I hope Sandy didn't get y'all too hard and that the lights are back on soon!

Oops on my misreading of "Elizabeth". I know she was disliked by some, but a lot of that was because she was too "low" to be Queen. I need to read David Baldwin's book about her, to sort out the facts. I know her best as the "source" of Henry VIII's Kell positive blood type (in theory, of course) and thus someone who effected the monarchy for generations after her death.

Sabrina Very interesting. I'll have to get my hands on Baldwin's book because I am really interested to read about her.
