Owen (marrlowe) | 9 comments I have been separating authors with the same name following the guidelines in the Librarians' Manual, but am unable to shift them. I believe this is due to the fact that the author in each case is not the principle author, but either a translator or contributor. Is there a way to fix this? (Have also searched the Discussion Topics extensively for 15 minutes to no avail on this question.) The books in question are:

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments You'll have to edit the names manually instead of using the disambig tool.

Edit each book using its edit page and edit the appropriate author. I often find it easier to delete the wrong author and add the right one instead of playing with the arrows.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments Random post, but I agree Vicky, especially since every time you arrow a name it resets all the data to the previous save. I changed the title and then arrows a name and had to fix the damn title again.

Owen (marrlowe) | 9 comments Got that but unfortunately I can not act on these instructions, having tried already to arrow up the contributing author and found him reset as mentioned by Krystal109. This seems to be a genuine bug but as I am new to Goodreads, I am hoping for some other options from members of this group.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments I do what Vicky does, delete the previous names and just re-enter them as you would enter any addition author.

Owen (marrlowe) | 9 comments Unfortunately, none of the above seems to work. Thanks anyway for your input to date.

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments Owen, here's a more step-by-step direction that will hopefully help with what we're trying to suggest.

-Using your first link: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/76...
-Click the "edit details" link to get to the Edit Book page.
-Click the "x" next to Donald Stuart to remove him from the author list.
-Click "Add new author" and enter the new Donald Stuart with the appropriate number of spaces for his disambiguated name.

Owen (marrlowe) | 9 comments I have now successfully transferred all but one volume of the books NOT written by Donald (Robert) Stuart, so thanks for the help on that. However, this one volume refuses to go away, no matter what I do!

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14...

It appears in both the correct profile and the Donald (Robert) Stuart profile and the two spaces in the name do not seem to make any difference.

That is because you need to disambig all editions. There were two other editions that still had Donald^Stuart as the author. I have since moved them.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments I am not seeing the book on the this profile

Owen (marrlowe) | 9 comments All good. This is not as easy as one might think! Thanks for the help.

Owen (marrlowe) | 9 comments Paula or Krystal109, is there a way to disambig all editions at once? Unless I can simplify it, I am confronted with a mammoth task if I want to separate all the George Johnston works.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments If you edit the author profile, there is a hyperlink there disambiguate tool. This will allow u to select all books belonging to 1 author an create new profile but only where the author is the primary any secondary authors need to be disambiguate from the book edit page

Owen (marrlowe) | 9 comments Thanks Paula. That saves a lot of time.
