Joel (joelevard) if you have downloaded it to your computer it will stay in your library. it won't be in your online library.

message 53: by Fustian (new)

Fustian | 30 comments I was reviewing a book yesterday, and once I indicated that I was giving it an "overall" two star review a little pop up was displayed offering to let me return the book.

I didn't return that one, but I did return another book that I had previously given a one star review as the narration was just horrific. So far, they haven't pulled my review off the site, which is pleasantly surprising.

Fustian | 30 comments I just tried returning a second book and it wouldn't let me do it online. I was told to contact customer care.

Perhaps they've had people returning a few too many titles?

(In case it matters: I've probably got around 75 eligible titles in my library at the moment).

message 55: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 1184 comments If I complete a book, I wouldn't return it even if I hated it. I would only return a book if I had to bail on it. I bailed on Bossypants after an hour. I was bored, and hadn't laughed once. I had no trouble returning it.

message 56: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3919 comments I hear you, Janice. I have one that I finished, and was debating about returning, but leaving a detailed review of its problems is enough I guess. I have one that I bailed on that I'll probably return instead.

I had to contact a customer service representative to return my second book. I did it online, which was very easy. I think this is their new procedure. The representative then informed me that you can only return two books in a six month period.

I agree yes I have alot of eligible books that doesn't mean I can or need to return them all. I only returned one book and that is because it was a DNF and the narrator was awful. I would never return a book I finished just because I didn't like it that's the chance you take when you buy any book.

I don't know how to initiate it. A window has popped up at the times I was trying to find out about stuff like how to return oops, or other technical issues..

When you click the book you want to return a small window will pop up offering the Audible phone number or a link to click to initiate an online chat session. Hope this works for you. This option only comes up on the second return. The first return is automatic.

I was told that if you wanted to return more than two, you had to contact customer service, so who knows.

And, sorry, I don't get the judgmental comments about returning books one finished but didn't like. If Audible is presenting the option, however limited, what possible difference can the reason make? As mentioned earlier on the thread, I have a huge library, and I appreciate the opportunity to replace books I didn't like with ones I'll appreciate as much as the 375+ I didn't return.

message 65: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 163 comments Sara I think you are referring to me, I apologize if you took my comment as judgmental. I don't think it comes off that way and I certainly didn't write it that way. I was saying what I did not, nowhere did I write what I think other people should do. And nowhere did I write that what anyone else did was wrong. I fully support Audible's program, I have returned 5 total books over my various memberships with Audible and this program makes sense in terms of encouraging people to purchase more. If you were referring to me, I have a motto re dealing with internet communication -- assume that people mean the best and ask for clarification. :)

message 66: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie | 2421 comments Well it may have been me too I said that I wouldn't return a book I had finished that's just my opinion.

message 67: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3919 comments I agreed with that as well, although I'm torn about one that I kept listening to until the end, and never really got better. Part of me would like to send a stronger message that the book was a failure. There's another non-fiction that's turning out "drier" than I'd hoped for, so I may not finish it, but that's the breaks of the game I think as I suspected that might happen.

message 68: by ♪ Kim N (new)

♪ Kim N (crossreactivity) I returned two for credits without any problem. The books are favorites, but only one narrator had been available until very recently and he isn't very good. That's great I think that's a best case scenario right there! I wish I could have exchanged mine for a good narrator hoping that they will see all the returns and bad reviews and re-do it with better narrator!

Actually, there were statements to that effect by several people, and, indeed, I was asking for clarification. :-).

I get that it's just an opinion, and not directed personally, as my sharing of my experience was just that: my experience. I had no idea I could return books until a couple of days ago when this thread appeared.

Anyhoo, happy to retreat into my audio lurkdom again--

message 71: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3919 comments As mentioned, Sara, I would consider returning one I'd read all the way through as I did so reluctantly hoping it'd get better and didn't.

message 72: by Fustian (new)

Fustian | 30 comments I listened to the one I returned all the way through, and the narrator grated on my last nerve the entire time. She was truly horrible. Hammed it up the entire time (in a non fiction book no less). I got to the end of the book and realized that I could make no judgement on its actual content because the narrator had been so overwhelmingly bad.

I have a very hard time "giving up" on books. I have 225 books in my audible library (shamefaced) and I can think of only one that I did not finish. (Incidentally, that was the other book I wanted to return).

I actually hope that this new program will give me a little more ease in letting a really bad listen go. There have been a couple of books that I've sat through because I spent the credit so I was going to get my money's worth, only to say to myself at the end that I should have rated my time more highly.

message 73: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 163 comments Me too. I sympathize with that.

I'm guilty of saying that I wouldn't return a completed book. That's my opinion and my own approach.

I find your comment to be judgemental.

message 75: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (aubi) | 3 comments Thank you for this tip! I've been with audible for about 18 months and have been very happy with them. I was able to take a three month break with them without canceling my account last summer when my credits were stacking up and I was really busy.

I've been lucky with my picks and only found one I even remotely wanted to return. Great narrator, but pretty bleh story. I did finish it, only because it was a book club pick and I wanted to be able to say I'd read it. Mostly I only half listened:)

Has anyone with an Audible UK account tried this? I tried to follow the process John detailed, but there was no "eligible"link. I'll send an email to customer services but it looks like the UK miss out again.

message 77: by D.G. (new)

D.G. It may be that this only available in the US for now, Chris. Who knows what the royalty implications in such things and maybe they need time to work it out if other regions, if they can even do it!

I returned an Audible book before there was every a formal program. I just thought it was so horrible that they shouldn't be selling it (narration problem) and I complained and asked for a credit refund. They sent me an email right away saying "so sorry you weren't happy, we've refunded your credit; thanks for the feedback on the book." So, I think even if there's no formal UK program you can always reach out to customer service for problem books.

I imagine that this might be one of those things where the sales and contract policies for digital materials differ between the two countries, so they'll have to have different programs.

message 82: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) I just wanted to give you an update on returns for Audible UK;
The customer service team responded to my query within a few hours, and despite having no similar returns policy to that in America, offered to refund credits for two recordings if I provided the details using the return email address along with the email trail. Their response was courteous and helpful, so I could not ask for anything more. 5 star service!

message 83: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That's awesome, Chris. Glad it worked out for you!!

message 84: by Christine (last edited Jul 26, 2012 12:44PM) (new)

Christine (chrizzle) | 25 comments I returned a book last week, and after the return, a page popped up that said, "Try one of these on us!" followed by some audiobook suggestions. Before I returned the book, I had one credit in my account. I chose a book from the "try one of these" list, but when I checked out, my one credit disappeared. I thought "on us" meant that they wouldn't charge me a credit for it, but apparently they did.

I immediately wrote to customer service explaining what happened and asking why I was charged a credit after a return, but I have received no response since the automatic "We got your message and will get back to you within one business day" email.

I'm annoyed because the book I chose to replace the returned book is one I wouldn't normally have picked, but I was willing to take a risk on it since I wouldn't have to spend my lone remaining credit. Sounds like I'm the only one who hasn't had a good experience with returns.

message 85: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3919 comments I got the offer of suggested books as well, but when I clicked "no thanks" was given the offer of a credit to use later. It's fairly clear you misunderstood, and let them know right away, so here's to getting your actual credit back!

message 86: by Darwin8u (new)

Darwin8u | 34 comments Reviews stay, however, after you return the book. I had a question about that because I had returned a book whose quality was poor but I was wondering if my review would disappear when the book was removed from my library. Nope. Still there.

message 87: by Ld (new)

Ld | 3 comments Thanks for this tip. Had no idea this was possible. Very good to know for any future duds, and I may be willing to risk a credit on something that's iffy now.

John | 3919 comments Last night I returned one that I'd gotten using a $10 credit it seems, so was given the credit back plus a small amount refunded to my credit card as the member price is just over that; I turned around and applied it towards a $9.95 book on my wishlist.

message 89: by Karen (new)

Karen (rhyta) | 166 comments I appreciate the information, I had no idea that we could return an audio. I checked my account and found there were a couple that I could return so I will check it out.

I try to listen to the sample audio to see if I like the narrator's voice but that doesnt help if the story is not to my liking. Good to know there are other options. thanks

message 90: by John, Moderator (new)

Chris Nicholson | 40 comments I've been returning books for a long time now (far more than two every six months) but it's almost always just a few hours after I buy the book. I listen on my iPhone exclusively and so I know within an hour or so what category it's in (Love it; will give it a shot; will keep it for now/listen later; OMG this is terrible why did I ever consider this, help me, help me, help me)

I return the ones in the last category and some in the 3rd. It's made me a very happy customer and I've gotten through far more books a result (If it's good, how can you "put it down") and enjoyed all of them.

message 93: by Chris (new)

Chris Nicholson | 40 comments One other thing I'd mention. Being able to return books makes me willing to try 2 credit books and shorter books, because I know that if they suck it's no big deal.

With longer books I usually more time to research them, listen to their narrator, read reviews, put them on my wish list, and only pull the trigger if I'm sure i'll put the effort in.
