The book was about a family that signed a contract. The contract states the head male of the family must take care of a plot of land. The plot of land is full of killer weeds. If the man does not pick the weeds they will get bigger and escape the field and seem to have a taste for human flesh.

There is a short story titled The Killer Plants written by Otto Binder using his pseudonym Gordon A. Giles. I've been looking around trying to find a free copy of it online, but haven't had much luck yet. It also is in the anthology The Killer Plants, and Other Stories
