Glad you guys are having fun --- figured we could all learn a bit more geography :-)

True story, I once used airline miles to buy an "Around the World" ticket. The rule for that type of ticket is that you did have to travel in one direction -- I headed west. I had to get special permission because I wanted to travel from Tokyo to Sydney which is actually slightly further east.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) Wow that sounds awesome Jolene! I am working on my list but man I am having trouble. I am trying to pick books I own but I am having to venture out of that as I just do not have a lot of different countries.

I'm glad to hear it. I don't feel like such a geography dolt now! And I did learn a few things. I expect the books will do the same thing.

Yes --- I knew that we were going to be something like this (from challenge calendar), so I have been stock-piling titles set in more obscure places. But finding some of them will be a challenge as I'm "trying" not to buy so many books.

Either one. On the 1, I will take the most recent post so if you only have 1 post that you edited it will be fine. When reporting scores though, you should create new post

Deadline for submitting your travel itineraries has past. Itineraries are now locked.
You can still earn the bonus task points if you want to participate.

message 79: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 48 comments Hi JoLene - if we post a completed book read for a particular task, is it ok to change the task for that book later, or are they locked?

message 80: by Christy (new)

Christy JoLene... I've edited my itinerary. Sorry it took me so long to get back. It's been crazy at my house. :P Can't wait to escape the chaos into a good book, or 30.

message 81: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
@Laura --- I will allow you to change as an exception, since it can get confusing. Please just note the post that you need to back-out with a new post in the scoring thread. Please do not edit the posts.

message 82: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 48 comments Ok, I'll try and make it very clear if it happens, and keep it to a minimum. Thanks.

No -- I just created a "Report Points Here" thread.

If you have questions about the overall challenge or bonus tasks, please log them here.

To report points, use the "Around the World Challenge - Report Points Here" thread.

I will be using the itineraries that are posted in the "Around the World Challenge - Itinerary & Scoreboard" thread for scoring.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments What if you are just doing the bonus tasks?

message 87: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
Report them in the "Report Points Here" thread like you would normally. When I update the scoreboard I will also update that thread with the running totals.

What happened to the Philippines?

message 89: by Christina (new)

Christina (christinahh) | 250 comments Hi Jolene, Just double checking, I see that we can read the books in any order we do not have to follow the itinerary. This means it would be OK for me to start with the book #30, then read #25, then come back to #27, etc...Is this correct?

message 90: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
Yes, that is correct. The amount of points that you get is based on the slot on your itinerary, not in the order that you read them.

Joyce, you asked what happened to the Philippines. I'm not sure I understand. I read a book the previous challenge about the occupation of the Philippines by the Japanese during WWII and the battle for Manila and wanted to learn more, so I picked this country. Does that answer your question?

When I said that, I wondered why the Philippines were not included in your list. That was what I meant. Thank you for replying! Joyce

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments For 15.1 Tourist Attraction-would Las Vegas be considered a tourist attraction?

For 25.2 Wonders of the World, can we usue any Woder of the World on any of those lists?

message 94: by JoLene, Mistress of the Challenge (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1251 comments Mod
I will accept the Las Vegas strip or one of the casinos as an attraction, but not just the city itself.

Yes, you can use any on the list, even though the ones from the industrial age, and american civil engineers don't seem as "wonderful" :-D

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments I could see hiow the internet could be a wonder of the world :) It is all the craze :)

Joyce Shaughnessy (joyceshaughnessy) | 25 comments Diane, I'm sorry. I didn't see the Philippines on your list. What book did you read? I have written two books about it and am writing my third about the huge partisan group there and the coming back of the U.S. It's actually a spy thriller based on real facts.A Healing Place and
Blessed Are the Merciful

Sue | 157 comments Question: The Touch by Colleen McCullough - This title is an HF book, set in New South Wales in the laster decades of the 19th century. May I use this book for my Australia itinerary item (I only have Australia, not the historic colonial territories of Australia, listed on my itinerary), or would it not count because the country of Australia did not come into being until Federation in 1901?

Thanks!
