Janice (jamasc) I've kind of assumed that the challenge is based on setting as opposed to author. Perhaps that is a wrong assumption. Are there rules or guidelines for the challenge?

Like the Around the World Challange a lot of us are in, there aren't many rules here. If you'd like to add a couple rules for yourself, i.e., choosing only authors you've never read before, or be really organized, you can do so.

Keep things neat. You're more then welcome to create a thread any new threads. However, please check to make sure there isn't already a thread for what you want to discuss.

Please list everything in the appropriate folder. For instance, a book set in Montreal written by an author living in New Brunswick would be listed in the Quebec folder, and the author would be listed in New Brunswick authors.

If there is a folder you'd you to see, or you have any questions, feel free to ask. Likewise, any suggestions or comments can be listed in the Feedback thread or in the General information folder.

People can choose setting, author, or both, depending on their personal preference or what works best for them. I'm going to do setting because it worked out better for me personally in the Around the World Challange.
The challange will be from January 1 2013 to December 31, 2013.
It would be nice if people created their lists ahead of time and posted them on here, but it's not a requirement- you can create them as you go, if that works better for you.
I do ask that, once the challange starts, people post books they've read for the challange or are currently reading, because I'm curious about what everyone's reading and to possibly get ideas for what I want to read. Eventually, there will be a "Where in Canada are you?" thread, where people can post books they're currently reading or listening to if they so desire.

Janice (jamasc) I like the "no rules" rule, myself. It makes it so much more flexible.

Yep, flexibility rocks.

Ava Catherine Awesome!

Susan Wylie | 2 comments Could the list include Canada? Albeit by an american author. That could wrap the year of reading through Canada nicely. My pick (from sunny, warm, summer in NZ) is Late Nights on Air for the Northwest Territories.

I am reading books based on setting, so Canada would work because it's set in Saskatchewan.

Canada works. It's set in Saskatchewan. I'm actually planning to read it as my Saskatchewan choice.

I did not know that - and I have family from Saskatchewan so that will work well in talking to them too.

Jessie (xjessg95) | 16 comments I'm going to try to read two books for each province and territory, one for the books setting and one for where the author lives (wether or not the book is set in Canada).

message 11: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I thought about that too, Jessie. I think it's a great approach.

Yeah, it is a pretty great approach, Janice and Jessie.

Heather Grace Stewart | 4 comments I'm glad there are no rules, really, as I'm really behind ! (just found this in Sept. 2013) But I can't wait to get started. I'm going to try to read authors from different provinces, but I suppose if I can't find an author from a certain province, Ill use 'set in.' I'm only reading Canadian authors though - I am one myself and I think we need to promote our own! ;) Have fun all.

Janice (jamasc) Welcome Heather!
