That's a great story and strangely heart warming.

Best wishes for Christmas and 2015 to all group members. We have a great group where a very wide variety of books and subjects are read and tackled. Alongside this there are always interesting and informative posts with often a discussion that is carried out with politeness and sensitivity. It has been a pleasure to moderate this group in 2014.
Seasons Greetings & Happy Holidays to all!And many thanks to Aussie Rick and his Merry Moderators - you make this a welcoming and interesting place for all, even those who only drop in irregularly... ^.^
Merry Christmas everyone. I want to thank the moderators of this group. Not forgetting the members who contribute frequently and educate others like me. While I may not write a lot, Goodreads is one of the 'dials' on my Firefox and I visit this group everyday, leaving the tab on throughout the day, refreshing it every couple of hours.
Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday season where ever you may be..And thanks again to the mods and everyone who makes this such a friendly and cozy place to visit.
Wait, it's not Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere? International Dateline I get-- but Santa still comes even if it's 28 degrees C.
Interesting story/round-up in the N.Y. Times on the literature coming out of the 'forever wars' in Iraq and Afghanistan:http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/12/26/...

Going to the Beach for a few days. Nothing WWII related planned on this outing, although I will stop at Bob's (Bob's Books at the Beach) my favorite place to pick up random WWII books. It is a used book store, so planning to get something is an exercise in futility. Although I am hoping to pick up a copy of Grass by Sherri Tepper. But that is SciFi/Fantasy, so the odds are better for it actually being there. See you when I get back.

I read today U.S. forces will cease ops at RAF Mildenhall, RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth. The U.S. is closing its facility at Lajes Field in the Azores too. Times change. Maybe we'll save a few dollars.

The local communities are saddened as they lose a good community and of course much money into the local economy. RAF Lakenheath however does well as it will become Europe's only F-35 base. The BBC reported base closures and rejigging units etc in Europe will save $500m.

I am not foolish enough to get into the Ocean in summer, much less winter, that water is dang cold. LOL.
'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Let us know what good books you find, have fun."So I picked up a Donald Westlake book. The Hot Rock. Anyone that likes crime thrillers, probably wouldn't like this. It is about a very hard on his luck crook. I think it took thirteen books before the poor guy had a successful caper.
The other book I got was of much more interest to the group. After all it was recommended here when we were discussing the German Armies grand theft auto policy. Hitler's Great Panzer Heist.

Ah what? I missed the reference. Does it have to do with 12th day?
