Mockingjay
question
It's being released as 2 different films ?? WHY?

Mockingjay is being released as 2 separate films. My question is WHY? Mockingjay part 1 is coming to cinemas in November 2014 and Mockingjay part 2 is coming to cinemas in November 2015. I mean Mockignjay isn't even the longest of the 3 books. Loinsgate is just following in the footsteps of Harry Potter and Twilight. What are your opinions?

I have to disagree, Mockingjay had a lot more action then the first 2 books, a lot actually happens throughout the entire book. Unlike the other 2 where parts 1 of both are extremely light on the action, and nothing really happens until part 3 when they're in the games.
They're just doing it to gain more money. I mean think about it. Mockingjay Part 1 gets a couple million dollars then Mockingjay Part 2 gets more millions. Way more than they can get for just one film. And if you don't like it..thats hollywood for you. And I personally don't mind the split. I mean sure the suspension WILL kill me but what will I split do to you? Give you suspence? Doesn't that what the book does? It's nothing that bad. It's basically a book 1 ending then the wait for book 2 in any series. Don't you think the wait will be worth it?
Just make 1 movie so we don't have to wait! (probably for sales)
Honestly it greatly annoyed me when they did this with Potter but I can see this with Mockingjay. There are two distinct parts the story while they were hidden in 13 and the resulting war.
Ugh! I am not excited! That sounds awful. Considering that Mockingjay was boring for the first 3/4 the movies are gong to be awful or are not going to follow the book at all...
Okay people, I think it is a GOOD idea that it is in two movies. Would you rather have 1 movie that is 2 and a half hours long that misses so many details and everyone is mad about all the stuff that was skipped over or 2 movies that are both 2 and a half hours long that fills in every detail and makes the movie closer to what the book is like? You tell me...
1. It will be difficult to stretch that slow, boring book into two films.
2. They're just doing it f0r the money.
2. They're just doing it f0r the money.
Twice the money, obviously! I think catching fire would be a better split candidate...But mockingjay does have a lot of action! I'm hoping they split when katniss and finnick are in the war room place and realize they're going back to the "arena"
I feel like they might be doing this for a couple of reasons. The first would have to be because it will make more money. Secondly, movies can show details because they are visual. There are a lot of details in this book. Lastly, this leaves space for them to show EVERYTHING. I feel like they might be packing everything together if they try to make this in one film.

I think it makes sense for them to make it two parts:
-It'll make them more money.
-Mockingjay is pretty intense and action-packed...

I kinda want to think it's the reason that they (they being movie producers) want to make sure that there is something big after this too. After the Harry potter series came the Hunger games to pick up the spot of this to must see of the year. Who know's maybe they are making sure that once this mockingjay is over they will have the next big thing to shot and to have everyone talking.
I know many people who belive that MockingJay is the worst book of the whole series. I don't have a favorite, but I think they are making them into 2 films for the money. You are right, it isn't the longest book out of all 3 books. Lionsgate are just doing it for the money. Like Harry Potter and Twilight.
They want it to be a cliff hanger so you get supesend to watch the second part
I was so pissed off when I heard about this, because like others have said. they only split it for the money. I dont find another reason.
same as twilight-- there are tons of hard-core hunger games fans out there and they're gonna make twice as much money if they split the movie into two parts.
Ha. All I can think is that the Mockingjay movie(s) are gonna be boooorrriiinnng. But the only reason anyone is going to watch them in the first place, is cause we read the books and we're too curious to see if they'll be any good.
oh dear,i didnt know this.
theres no need for it,it just works me up like HP and Twilight..

I personally think Mockingjay did have to be split into 2 movies. A lot of things happened in Mockingjay (sometimes i feel people didn't even read it.) Katniss found out about the explosion in district 13, Peeta in the capitol, Gale going to the capitol (I'm sure they will show this scene,)Peeta being brainwashed, Battle to the capitol, Prim dyeing, Coin becoming president conference, President Snow and Coin dyeing, Katniss in depression mode, end of book.
To make more money. And also to build the fanbase.
Personally, after series like Harry Potter and Twilight (although I dislike it greatly) split the final movies, I think that the Hunger Games production team thought, "Hey, we'll do that too."
Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's what I believe to be the reasons behind it.

I'm really glad they're doing it in two parts. I thought that Mockingjay felt rushed in a lot of places, a single movie would be even more rushed and honestly I'm not sure how they could do it and still keep a good story. I'm very pleased they'll be doing two movies, it means that not only will they be able to keep information they'd previously have to skip, but they'll be able to add to it with the help of Collins.
I don't care. As long as I can watch them. XD Go Team Peeta!
They shouldent there is not enought info to make 2. They want to be like Harry Potter, which actually HAD alot of info to make 2.
Also all of the movies from popular books : Breaking Dawn, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Not every popular book has to do this!!!!!
Go TEAM GALE!!!

Profit.
Lord of the Rings was able to fit Return of the King (which is longer and has way more key events) in a single film, so I can't see why Mockingjay can't. Same with the Hobbit (3 movies, really?!), they're seriously milking the viewers.

Mockingjay so doesn't need to be two parts. I understand Deathly Hallows. If that one was one part, it would be like the Lord of the Rings movies which are 3 1/2 to 4 hours long. But seriously, Mockingjay? Who wants to wait for the end of Mockingjay even longer because they want to make two parts? It is already torture waiting 1 1/2 years for catching fire. Even worse waiting for the end of the whole series! This is for more money. Should have been one part.
i don't mind. they are doing it for money, but what i want to know, where will the cliffhanger be?
I hate that it is being separated... But they are separating the movie so they can keep more scenes than if they only had one movie... So im ok waiting another year after the first part of the movie comes out for the second part if i get to see more of my favorite parts from the book.
I can't help but think on this that the film industry can't win either way. I honestly do think that their main motivation is the money but, going back to the deathly hallows, they made it into 2 films because they didn't want to cut too much out of the story line.
My main criticism of films based on books is that they cut too much out. Huge chunks go missing from the story line and bits get added in so that the story still makes sense (think about where the mockingjay pin really came from, huge bit of the story cut out and replaced with katniss finding it at the market.) If they make the books into two films maybe they can be 'truer' to the storyline in the books which, in theory, would keep the readers (the original fan) happier. Plus, the franchise lasts longer so we all have something to look forward to discussing/loving/hating when it comes out.

i think it is kind of cool that the hunger games is following in the foot steps of harry potter and twilight. also by creating the movie into two parts it a)creates more suspension if they leave the ending wacked out or confusing and b) why not, it'll make the producers more money
Although Mockingjay isn't a very long book, it has a lot more action scenes than any other of the books. When you are reading it, it seemingly doesn't take very long but it will take time for them to portray those scenes.
But, that aside, they also might be doing it for financial gain.

Because its now kinda the trendy/sensible/profitable thing to do with a series
So the film is split into two movies, but is probably shot in one go all the same, don't you think? (I don't have a clue to how that works even)
Then why wait a full year for the release of part 2? Why not just a half year?
I don't get why it's ripped into two. But I guess milking it makes more sense than keeping more of the scenes alive. Catching Fire is done in one go, so I expect there to be lost of scenes being altered and left out too. and those too books were (according to my taste in the trilogy) the best ones...

I wish the won't release it in two different films... then I would have to wait for the second movie!! :(
If I was making the films I would split it in two, I mean the first film made more than a hundred thousand so why settle for just that when you could make double that.

I think it's important that they do, or they'll have so many people ticked with them for cutting out so much(though there isn't really much to cover anyways) but I think HP needed it, but Twilight and HG? Idk...
There doing it to make money thats the only reason
The studio wants to milk it for all the money they can get. The book wasn't long nought to justify 2 movies. If Return of the King could be done in one film, so can Mockingjay.
I think, aside from the money part, that they want to put as much detail into the movies as possible. They would want to end the story as well as possible instead of just finishing it quickly. They would like to make it as true to the book as possible.
The only reason they do that is to make more money. That's the sole reason. But, honestly I don't know where they would start it. Once the action starts, it almost never stops.

Thank you for posting this comment! I can see why HP 7 was released as two films, but Mockingjay isn't long enough for that.

I enjoyed the first Hunger Games movie as soon as I accepted that it WASN'T the book. But having said that, I still think they left out so many things. I know there is the whole time issue with films, but I think a little longer would have worked.
I don't know how their going to get all of Catching Fire into a movie because it jumps from District 12 to the other districts and then to the arena and there are a lot of details there. Mockingjay, though I loved the book, would be too dragged out in two movies.
In my opinion, they should split Catching Fire, if any of them, and leave Mockingjay as one movie. But I'm not sure where it would be split and make sense.

I think it will work split in two, especially if they split it where Katniss gets shot...
It's stupid. They are just doing it cuz harry potter and twilight. this book isnt even big enough for it. i dont know where they would split it!
Hmm I gotta agree I don't see how they are going to break it up, definitely not long enough and as someone said, once the action starts it doesn't stop. I don't see where they are going to split it without being irritating lol
Catching Fire I figured would be split. That one I can see.

I started to lose interest with Mockingjay. There is no way to make two interesting movies out of it. The only reason I kept reading the third book is because I had read the first two and I didn't want to not finish the series.
