J.K. said that she wanted the cast to be strictly British. Obviously, she stretched that requirement over the years, because many secondary characters were Irish (Evanna Lynch) and Scottish (Katie Leung), but the cast was very much strictly British. Johnny Depp does not reach that requirement.

johnny depp is an amazing actor. he can and has played everyone from a crazy pirate to the mad hatter. put him with tim burton and you have movie magic. but not in harry potter. i was actually surprised to see helene bonham carter in something that wasnt directed by tim burton. she was amazing, she should branch out more. she doesnt need to ride the coat tails of burton to be a success. harry potter proved that. cant wait to see her in les mis!
