How can we provide 21st Century Enhancements with Self-Publishing

I was among 5 million who watched a song about blue cups on YouTube. How can we add enhancements to our promotion materials and maybe to the manuscript itself that gets that kind of attention. The Library of America is doing it, evidently to reinvent the classic scifi. But how can we--the poor but creative ones--compete?

I'm telling you the same thing I tell my students when they put too much on their PowerPoint slides: too many words makes it too difficult to read. Audiences give up easily if they can't grasp the message quickly or have to struggle to decipher it.
