Is it necessary that we plot a story?
Or do we just write as it comes?

I actually go with the flow.I can't plot a story.Ever.It just never comes to me.whereas if I write the ideas keep forming.
Oh and I can't edit.If I edit I end up changing the whole story. My stories keep changing every time I read them..

Sherri (fabledhattress) Lol yeah? Interesting. With my story I know the main events and I have them in my head, but I suck at doing the little details and I've got random scenes and chapters already written down.

I wish.
if I see a grammatical mistake I click on edit and change the whole chapter because of that one tiny word.
So yeah,I don't have a plot.Like ever. And I would very much like how to know how to plot a story to begin with.

How do you do it?It's so hard for me to come up with one.And I write stuff which I myself don't understand.
I come up with crazy ideas, which I feel like writing and I do.But the reasoning part,I'd be blank.I can't explain it.

If I come up with a premise, then I work form here. Let's use the story I'm currently writing:
I came up with a premise: Future where people are categorized from birth.
Next: Characters, eventually after thinking day and night about the premise I decide on having 3 main characters and their levels.
Ending: I think about the ending. I have a beginning, characters and an ending
Outline of middle: I spend a lot of time bridging the gap between the beginning and the end. Create an outline, how the characters interact to get that ending. (Takes a lot of late nights staring at the ceiling to create it)
Write: With vague outline in hand write. Be prepared to change your outline as new ideas surface

But everyone is different. That's my process.

That's pretty cool,Char. For me,I do it waaaay differently.I just start writing.Like spot on.I don't even give the characters or the plot a thought, forget about the ending!
Right now, that's the reason I'm stuck.I have absolutely no clue how to pick up where I left off.

The answers lie in the ceiling!i'm gonna try that:P

I get that, I do that sometimes, just sit down with a blank word document and don't get up until I have a page off the top of my head. But for my big stories, i need structure.

The ceiling really does help!

You have to let the world of your story wash over you, dig deep down to what makes that story tick, you can do it
