Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments The Rose Garden-Susanna Kearsley
She is the author of The Winter Sea.The book is slightly like most other T.T. that are easy reading except here is diff because this lady has to find a way to anchor herself in the 1700s so she can stay with her hubby, the whatever grabs her and whisks her in each direction without any reason but she does help get permantly rid of a horrible constable.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments I started Gone Girl and had to give it up,it seems to be one of those psychologically viscious things that look fine on the outside to others but is brutal to the victim.I wouldn`t even give it 1*

message 853: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1002 comments Interesting, Kathy Anne. I've been recommended that book by several people, and I'm on the fence about it; I'm getting such mixed feedback/reviews. I'm such a wuss, and I don't think I'd like the psychological stuff. However, my BFF, who only reads about five books a year, just read it and loved it...go figure!

message 854: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1002 comments BTW, I finally got around to listening to Running Wild by Linda Howard today and gobbled it down while out doing errands. I had to speed it up to 1.25 times, but it is very well narrated by Maggie Wheeler. I definitely look for her as a reader again.

message 855: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments About Gone Girl. It is a study about how some people can be so wrapped up in themselves that they have no empathy for anyone else and will go to any length to hurt someone they feel has wronged them. The book was not to my taste either, but it was definitely worth reading just because it has had such an impact on our culture.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments Anita I agree, and I would just add that this woman is crazy evil .In my life I have never known any one that has come even close to the horror that is this lady.
We had a Rose book on here awhile ago that I wouldn`t read because tho I like mystery and thrillers and even the gory stuff I cannot read the purely evil of a psychological horror story and this is probably the worst one I ever read.

Lots of reviews.... A new author 2 me..bought @ WalMart.

Kathy Anne and Anita I agree with both of you. I can't handle the gory stuff and the purely evil character. If they are so unrealistic that it is not possible I can handle if, but if the character could really be real I would rather not read it. My BFF has just read Karen Rose for the first time and really liked the books. I read one and started a second and had to quit. I do not like psychological horror. I feel too helpless, because I know it goes on out there.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I am rereading some fun, not very mentally taxing books, Gentle Rogue Gentle Rogue (Malory-Anderson Family, #3) by Johanna Lindsey and Warrior's Woman Warrior's Woman (Ly-San-Ter, #1) by Johanna Lindsey

Janeiowa | 5009 comments Nancy...looking forward to your opinion of K. Ashley. I've tried one or two of hers and simply couldn't get into them nor did I like them. I know there are others here who are big, big fans of hers. Not me. Good thing there are so many authors to choose from. ;)

message 863: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I just gotThe Book of Life The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3) by Deborah Harkness I haven't started about it, and since this is a trilogy which I have already read, but over a year ago. That is the problem with series and trilogy, and especially if they are complicated books, like the Outlander series, you may have to reread the first ones again

message 864: by Carly (new)

Carly Carson | 60 comments I read Gone Girl. It was all right. I got annoyed at the end because the guy was such a dope so I skimmed the ending. The woman was extremely unlikable and evil, but I don't like the modern day meme of men as idiotic victims. However, plenty of other people loved the book. :)
I just finished The Sixth Extinction if you like non-fiction (humans will engineer the 6th extinction, if you're wondering). The Sixth Extinction An Unnatural History by Elizabeth Kolbert

message 865: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I am trying to listen to Clockwork Angel Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare . This is a series and it is a science fiction. Frankly, I doubt I will read anymore of them.

message 866: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1002 comments I really enjoyed that one, Dee, and rated it quite high. But I'm with you; I don't think I'll go on with the series. I enjoyed doing it as a "buddy read," which almost always elevates a read for me, as I enjoying answering and reading discussion questions with others.

However, like most YA, it has a love-triangle, which is not one of my favorite themes. (view spoiler)

message 867: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments About Gone Girl. Yesterday we took 6 kids to the Natural History Museum in the kids craft area there were lots of things for them to do. My daughter and granddaughter were waiting to do a tracing, the little girl in front had finished her tracing and was coloring it in. Didn't need to color it in on the tracing equipment. Anyway, her mother said don't worry about the other kids in line, just take your time. People like Gone Girl are developed from birth.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments Being around little ones so much these days, it is a real eye opener how some parents choose to parent.

message 870: by Dee (last edited Nov 12, 2014 08:44PM) (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments You are so right about how parents teach their kids to be inconsiderate. I know they don't mean to, but still...When I was teaching I had a set of twins in my class. They NEVER came to class until about 11:00. When the school principal and I (along with others) asked she said it was TOO COLD for them to get up and go to school.
One of the twins also had an abscessed tooth. I sent her to the nurse, who got them an appointment with the dentist. The nurse also got transportation for the mom and daughter. Of course, the dentist gave them antibiotics to take, before dealing with the tooth. The next appointment the mom and daughter stood them up. Mom said the girl didn't want to go and she still should get free transportation to the free dentist. I could never understand that woman!

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments Dee
I agree and I think it`s the only one I made it all the way thru and was happy I did read the last part because it gave some history of Master Raymond and who he is related too in the Outlander books.

message 878: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Thank you Kathy Anne. I am about 2/3 the way through, Master Ramond has not been mentioned yet, so looking forward to it.

message 879: by Eve (last edited Nov 23, 2014 02:09AM) (new)

Eve (everf) | 815 comments I've started Lacybourne Manor by Kristen Ashley and so far its been very captivating. Its contemporary romance set in England, it has paranormal/reincarnation theme, like e.g Howard's Lake of Dreams but this is full-length novel. Got it as ebook and its Kindle price from Amazon was .99$ only, considering that its 488 pages (print length), then its really good price for such a long and good story!

I am starting a buddy read so I will reread Cry No More Cry No More by Linda Howard . I am also trying to read the next in the Westmoreland saga Until You Until You (Westmoreland, #3) by Judith McNaught . I know I have read this, but it most have been over 10 years ago and I don't remember it much. I am going to continue reading the Outlander series. I will be starting on The Fiery Cross The Fiery Cross (Outlander, #5) by Diana Gabaldon , but if I start on that book too soon I fear I will burn out of it so I am going to hold off reading the next book for a week or so.

She's one of my favorites, too. Are you reading her Eternity Springs series?

For my reading tastes, Jessica Scott and JoAnn Ross are among the very best in contemporary romance. I've just bought and downloaded their Holiday Duet...each contributed a new novella about coming home for Christmas.
Home for Christmas by JoAnn Ross Home for Christmas

Which includes both of the novellas below.

Ms Ross's is in her Shelter Bay series,
You Again: A Shelter Bay novella You Again A Shelter Bay novella by JoAnn Ross

and Ms Scott's in her military Coming Home series. All I Want for Christmas is You All I Want for Christmas is You (Coming Home #5.5) by Jessica Scott

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 799 comments Finished Tragic by Robert Tanenbaum. Fans of MacBeth need to read this one. A 3 star review for me. Love the Butch Karp / Marlene Ciampi series. Setting: NYC. Courtroom drama for sure.
I need to dig up the new Emily March!
Yes, Jane. It is the Eternity Springs series. Thank you for all the new author suggestions!
May we all have a great 2015 book year! :)

Sorry, I didn't get back with you on your question. I can't imagine why I didn't. Yes I finished it. I can't say I really paid that much attention to it so I didn't get the family connection. I will have to read it again at some later date....WAY in the future. I was so bored with it.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I am rereading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Right now I am about a couple hundred pages into Echo to the Bone. Lizzy and her two husbands, Jo and Kezzy, just had a baby girl, and Jamie and Claire have just left the ridge to go to Scotland. I really can't remember much about Echo. I know I read the book rather than listened to it so I should have gotten more out of it.

message 895: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments Dee
I know I didn`t get much from Echo,I don`t remember 100% why but something I really dislike was almost the whole book(I think it was war but then I don`t remember her war story being that bad in the others.)And wasn`t there a severe absence of Jamie, and I remember not liking what happened to him but not what it was.I will have to read GR and Amazon reviews and refresh my head I know I said I would never reread it again and it`s the only one I have ever felt that way about of DG`s.

I agree I am not getting into the war part of Echo. I am only about 200 pages into it, and I am trying to really understand what is going on and connect them with the previous stories and MOHB. Right now, Jamie is in it as much as Claire is. They are in New Bern, looking for transportation to Scotland. Grey's step brother Percy Wainwright (now Beauchamp) is looking for Fergus and/or Jamie. I know that Grey was in love with a Percy, that I thought died on the field of Culloden. Is this the same guy and he didn't die, or is it someone else? He also talks about the last time he saw him he almost killed him. I totally don't remember that part.

message 899: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments I think your right about Percy and yes he did die and I do think it was Culloden. It`s hard to remember because I think I skipped most of the book.I wish I had my books here it would be nice to be able to look things up but my older male cousins that always end up being the ones to move me became stubborn mules this last time and said never again(and really I can`t blame them I guess)but boy I sure miss having them with.

Me too. This is my second book and I liked it better than the first, but it was lacking something for me. JAK will not make my must read author list.
