Yes Elizabeth does fit with the authors you list-they are all first class in my opinion and Lowell has some really 10* ones out there.Shes been around for a long time. Her Pearle Cove is one of my 5 top favorite books and has stayed there since I read it.

message 502: by Janeiowa (new)

Janeiowa | 5009 comments Thanks!

I've found some really good authors lately, and I've found a couple others rave about who have left me cold. That's why I included authors I do like, hoping someone else was familiar with those and could tell me if Lowell would fit in that writing style.

Reading two at the moment....the COWBOY OF VALENTINE VALLEY, I mentioned earlier and a new-to-me author

Low Tide Bikini by Lyla Dune

message 503: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments To me I really like some of Lowell's books and others not so much. Which is funny, because my friend likes the ones I don't and doesn't the ones I do. I hope that makes sense.

Janeiowa | 5009 comments Yes, thank you.

(I feel the same way about Kristen Ashley...so many here rave about her, and the two I tried I could not finish. )

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I have read a few of her books, and I liked them. To me they weren't outstanding, in fact I would be hard pressed to tell you what they were about.

I am reading a new author...well new to me. Shannon Stacey All He Ever Needed (Kowalski Family, #4) by Shannon Stacey and All He Ever Desired (Kowalski Family, #5) by Shannon Stacey . This is a trilogy and I will probably finish the book, but I have to say I am not all that impressed. I know I will not be reading anymore of her books.

The one thing I DO NOT LIKE is that two women did not want children. In one, not a main character, the woman told the man she wanted them, but after 10 years of marriage, when he pinned her down she said absolutely not. They get divorced. In another case the woman is 34 and after having a 16 year old son, by another man she refuses to have any more kids. To me, and maybe I am old fashioned (Yuck, I am old) I think having kids is a wonderful blessing. That is if you are stable and mature enough to be a decent parent.

Nancy | 69 comments Dee wrote: "I am just starting Do or DieDo or Die (Reluctant Heroes, #1) by Suzanne Brockmann"

What do you think of the book Dee? Am thinking I might try it if it is decent. I'm currently reading The Last Hour of Gann. It is a sci fi thriller with romance I think. Only 10% in; the writing and world building is very good. The H is an alien - a humanoid with lizard features, and from the reviews, the book get quite dark midway through the book.

Will update when I'm finished.

message 514: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Ohh it sounds good. Let me know when you finish.

I am about 10% into the Do or Die (Reluctant Heroes, #1) by Suzanne Brockmann and so far it is REALLY good. My friend read it and she Loved it.

Janeiowa | 5009 comments I just finished a new-to-me author, Joleen James. Her Falling for Nick was wonderful.

I'm adding this author to my list to check out her other works. I like finding new authors outside the standard author names we all know.

Falling For Nick by Joleen James

It is so not in the Janet Evanovich style. No humor, witty dialogue or screwball heroine. It is an OK story, but I expected something totally different for an historical by Janet Evanovich.

Nancy | 69 comments Finished The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith . Really long book - took me almost 4 days to finish the book. It is my first read by this author, R. Lee Smith. Someone rec this book from an Amazon thread and had mentioned that the book is quite dark, even though there is a HEA. I mentioned earlier that it is a scifi with romance between a human h and a humaniod lizoid H. I would probably give the first 60% of the book 4.5 to 5 stars, but the remaining of the book is really hard to read due to the darkness of the story. If sexual violence is a no no for you, don't read the book. To the author credit, I could not stop reading until the last page but I took off a star. Overall, a 4 stars read. The H, Meorag made the book for me while the h had too many tstl moments for me.

message 520: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Thank you so much, Nancy for that review. It is nice to know the good and the bad of the books. I am not sure if this is a book for me. I am really not into a lot of sexual violence.

message 524: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I finished Do or Die Do or Die (Reluctant Heroes, #1) by Suzanne Brockmann and what a GOOD book! The book is really long 578 pages. This is the first installment of a new series the Reluctant heroes.

Rogue navy seal, Ian Dunn was put in prison. Along come the FBI and offer him a get out and stay out of jail free card if he helps them retrieve two kidnapped kids that a terrorist has. These kids are children of a nuclear scientist and Kazbekistani warlord. The FBI is afraid that if the wife is forced back to Kazbekistan she will be forced to make a nuclear bomb for the country, and then they will kill her. But Dunn wants to stay in prison. It is imperative that he stays there. Of course, the FBI force him out. Without giving everything away, the first half of the book is Dunn trying to fix the damage that was done when he got ejected out of prison. The second part of the book was retrieving the kidnapped children. I had a such a hard time putting the book down that I would read until my eyes blurred. Then I would put the book down and wait until they would unblur and start back up. I cannot wait until the next installment comes out.

message 525: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments I read almost all of Suzanne Brockmann's Tall, Dark and Dangerous series and loved every one of them. Same for the Troubleshooters series. In fact, I have never read a Suzanne Brockmann book I didn't like, even her early romances are great. I have three more Troubleshooter books to read then I will get Do or Die. It sounds like a really great book too.

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 799 comments I agree with Wendy on MM. But it's been so long since I looked at it that I can't remember why it didn't "capture" me as most of her other books did....

message 532: by Kathy Anne (last edited Feb 18, 2014 11:30AM) (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) | 598 comments I am so glad to see both Wendy and Nancy feel about like I do about the MM books-in all the yrs I`ve been reading LH I keep reading how wonderful these books are-yet they do nothing for me .I don`t know that I ever finished any of them.
And if that isn`t bad enough I have never gotten past the the part in Dream Man where I saw what a jerk the so called Hero is.
I guess I really missed out on some LH genes on these books.

message 533: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Well I must have gotten part of the LH genes. I love the Mac series, all of them...well except for Mac's Magic. But I do agree with you Dream Man. for some reason I can never remember which book that is without looking at the synopsis.

message 534: by Janeiowa (last edited Feb 19, 2014 06:42AM) (new)

Janeiowa | 5009 comments Me, too, Dee, for the contemporary ones; not so much for anything historical or paranormal.

I did not get the KA gene, though, or some authors that other readers here enjoy so much.

I do love seeing new-to-me authors and titles listed here. I've also found some amazing ones via the Book Gorilla and Book Bub for free or very little $$. I don't mind the $$ when the author is good; I gnash my teeth when the writing is poor and the story rambling or full of holes.

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 799 comments Just read The Woman Most Likely To... by Jennifer Greene. I like many of her books.
c2002.

message 536: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Since I have retired I don't have the money to go out and spend the $$$ for books that I don't want to keep. I usually get books from the library first, then if I really like it then I may buy it. Still I hate to buy new, so I usually go to yard sales, or used books places.

message 537: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 799 comments That's my preference too Dee.
[Why spend alot of money on a book you r not sure u will like? ]

message 538: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments The other problem since I read incessantly where do I keep the books? I only have so much room, and once I have read them how often do I go back and reread them. I do keep certain authors, but even those how often do I go back and reread them. I have found that I can go to the library and pick up the books I want so easily. Now I can even download books without waiting for them.

Of course, certain authors are not in the library, those I will look for in a used books store, or wait until Amazon has them on sale for cheap.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I went to the Chiricahua National Monument, Cochise's strong hold, on my little road trip and I got a book called Champions of the Wilderness and the Fable of the Little Bit Bear. Both Books are books on ecology. Champions of the West is a montage of different people that made a difference in the west including Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, Teddy Roosevelt. There are also some women who I have never heard about. I also got a pop up book which I am giving to my niece and nephew. It is about the desert, and the book is so detailed that I am going to read it first.
