That would be awesome, actually. Thanks! I will also work on getting in the habit of visiting that subforum more regularly.

Nyssa | 1569 comments LOL Cool. Now that I'm helping every month its hard for me to forget! :D

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments You already know my vote which is for number six. I've got three titles from the library that came in and then I might be on to Junot Diaz.

I'll be reading In Patagonia as my travel selection.

message 154: by Nyssa, Series Addict (new)

Nyssa | 1569 comments Well so far, between here and MR , thats two votes for both library books (Caleb agrees with you, Christa), one vote for Catching Fire (Alan) and one vote for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (HiMS).

Nyssa | 1569 comments Forgive me friends, but I ended up opting for something completely different! **blush** **smile**

We took the kids to the bookstore yesterday, and I mentioned to my Hubby that I was interested in reading The Color of Earth, the first book in a manga series I stumbled across while perusing GoodReads.
As we were still searching the shelves, (it turned out not to be available at that location), Hubby pointed out Chobits: Omnibus, Vol. 1, another anime/manga series. He saw a few episodes online and thought I might like it.

I'm now 9 chapters in, and although I could not explain why, I am enjoying it! I already have the 2nd omnibus on order (as well as the Colors series). I also watched the first 2 or 3 episodes. The show and the books start at different points in the story, and the translations are quite different, for certain scenes, as well, but both cover the same points, eventually.

These will be my first forays into anime/manga.

The Color of Earth (Color Trilogy, #1) by Kim Dong Hwa [This is cross posted on MR] Chobits Omnibus, Vol. 1 by CLAMP

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments Congrats!

message 158: by Nyssa, Series Addict (new)

Nyssa | 1569 comments Thank you! :) I can't believe how quickly I read that omnibus; Its 737 pages!!

I wasn't trying to be Speedy Gonzalez, I just didn't want to put it down. I think this will eventually be a reread , with the expressed intent of slowing down to enjoy the illustrated art a little more.

Nyssa | 1569 comments So, because I can never leave well enough alone, I've added a few "personal choice" categories to the "I'll try anything Once" challenge:

Award Winner
Banned or Challenged
Mobile Read Author
Mythology

and I've set up a few "award shelves": nebula, hugo, pulitzer, etc.

I'm trying to decide if I want to set up a "banned or challenged" shelf and/or a MR Author shelf, as well.

message 161: by HomeInMyShoes (last edited Mar 07, 2013 06:11PM) (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I like the award shelves idea and you know what? The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao would fit in that award category and under pulitzer I think.

Ooooh, that's fancy!

I've only read 1 MR author (and that was just a few pages). A friend and my mom both read Steve's book. My mom loved Steve's book so I bought the whole set for her. My friend hated steve's book.

Nyssa | 1569 comments Currently trying to read The Secret Life of Bees but my heart is not really into it. I feel one of those reading funks coming on. Need to cut it off at the pass... nothing else seems appealing at the moment, though. Maybe I'll dip back into anime. **shrug**

The Secret Life of Bees is also on my TBR-list. I'm sorry to hear you can't get into it. Try reading something familiar. That's always good to get out of a reading funk.

Nyssa | 1569 comments I'm currently reading:

Divine Misfortune by A. Lee Martinez Divine Misfortune by A. Lee Martinez. It really should be read at a much quicker pace than I've been going, but its still a fun read... uncomfortably funny. I expect to finish by Friday at the latest.

Nyssa | 1569 comments Help Wanted (Fantasy Heights, #1) by Meg Silver Help Wanted

Currently enjoying an erotica, short story, series called Fantasy Heights. A little bit of mystery with engaging characters and a lot of sex.

We follow Amanda, who due to sudden life changes, finds herself interviewing for a position at a premiere fantasy fulfillment resort.

What I like most about this series, is the fact that this is not the typical "down on her luck" type deal. Amanda is a normal, successful woman, who decides to take a risk and ends up really liking her job.

Nyssa | 1569 comments I've been sick for the past week, and just haven't been reading. Its been work, mindless games, and hours of music.

American Gods is interesting, but a bit "heavy" for my low-concentration level, at the moment.

Ah. :)

There are fourteen of them, plus a short story anthology (I think, which I do not have).

Amazon had them on sale late last year. I bought all 14 for $1.99 each.

I bought them all then too. I was going to try and read Casino Royale this year. Not sure if I'll get to it though.

Nyssa | 1569 comments Realization: I have not read anything in almost 2 months... 56 days to be exact .. nor do I know when I will again.

Its an odd feeling.

message 194: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I have to say that 56 days is very impressive. I'm hopeful that whatever you and MrsJoseph have is not digitally contagious.

message 198: by Nyssa, Series Addict (new)

Nyssa | 1569 comments So... umm Hi. *waves*

School's started, I've subbed 6 out of the 10 days that its been in session, which has helped to finally pull me away from my Netflix marathons.

I'm currently reading:
Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson Mistborn: The Final Empire

Although I'm 70-something pages in (out of 640-something), it's still too early to tell how I feel about the story as a whole, but it certainly has my attention.

Nyssa | 1569 comments Just finished reading my first book in...forever... I actually can't even remember how long its been. It was Solid Soul. While it wasn't earth shattering, it was a nice way to break my reading fast.

I'm now going to start:
The Parasol Protectorate Boxed Set Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless and Timeless by Gail Carriger

I'm trying to remember who recommended it to me. Was it you Mrs. J?

I found Benedict Jacka and have 3 of his Alex Verus series. I like him, I think but still too early to tell. I've started the 2nd in the series already. Jim Butcher seems to like his stuff but I think I prefer Harry Dresden. The magic is different for Alex. I must be spoiled by Dresden files. Yeah, I know, keep an open mind for DIFFERENT authors!!
