Geekomancy! Geekomancy!
Geekomancy! Geekomancy!
Geekomancy! Geekomancy!
lol!
Or, The Key of the Keplian

What are you trying to do to me, my tbr, and my wallet, woman!?!?!
As for Geekomancy.. Yes..it is fun! A lot of fun! I am enjoying it.
It irritated the heck out of my husband in the beginning (geek pop culture overload - and he is a geek! :) ), but he was really enjoying it by the end.
The only think that bugged me were the D&D stats for ALL of the characters introduced in the beginning. It was funny for Ree & Eastwood (not that I remember what they were). Once we got past those, however, I've been loving it.

If you haven't read Microserfs, you need to read Microserfs by Douglas Coupland. I'd suggest another author, but I won't go there.

See, the series is a series of story arcs. Some are set in different lands/continents, etc. So, this one is the beginning of a story arc that is also a stand alone. I like this one because it introduces Witch World to a person unfamiliar with it - so you get explanations. And if you don't care for it...no big deal, you haven't invested much time/money.
I really love the Witch World Series but its not for everyone. Andre Norton was a Grand Master but...she also started this series a very long time ago. A lot of the writing isn't a current as it is today so it can feel very dated to those who want a lot of fast and/or hard hitting action.
She focuses a lot on family, duty, ties to others, honor, etc. It is really one of the most involved systems that I have ever read. Love Andre Norton! ;-)

So would my liking The Key of the Keplian give any indication as to my liking the rest of the series?

I love just about all the books - but the ones that are my favorite are the ones that focus on the things we do for others and for survival. Another of my favorites is Silver May Tarnish. It has very little "action" (one of my friends would call it a "slice of life" story) but it focuses on how a small group of people rebuild their lives after a very destructive war. I don't know, something about her books makes me feel like home. :-)

:-D
She wrote both Sci-fi and Fantasy. The Time Traders is sci-fi. I think I've read it but it was a long time ago. At least I read the first couple, lol.
Ooooh can I be in your gang? :D

What yo library look like? *snicker*

"I once bought a book, just to watch it lie...... ( on the shelf )"
*sigh* Lol!
According to calibre, I've capped over 3,000 books. I've never bought a book in Reno just to watch it lie, but I did go to Little Rock, walked into a Barnes and Noble and came out the clear victor.
That's right.
That's right.
I was about to suggest some sort of initiation, like maybe going into another book gang's territory and reading for an hour without getting caught, but...
I don't know of any other book gangs.

Can you believe dat girl, all readin' up in their grill!
Aww Yeah, There go Miss C, she was in their hood for a whole hour man. Reading their horror and their romance, yo! Even ran off wit one of their bookmarks!
ROFLMAO!!
Yo, you shoulda seen it. I loaded up all their books in the back of that boy's ride and took off. Shoulda heard 'em cryin'.
"Man, bitch just stole yo wheels!"
"Forget the Escalade, man! My signed copy of "Hatin' for Dummies" was in da back seat!"

I should point out that was inspired by coming across this earlier today: http://theroyalentity.blogspot.com/20...
Back in 2004, I was in a movie. A couple of the other actors made great sport of trying to get me to sound gangsta. The only person less gangsta than me was possibly the British Line Producer. But one person sort of involved was even worse. Watch the trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuzgFz... and listen to the voiceover guy trying to say "beyotch" at the very end.
And no, it still hasn't been released, but hopefully it will soon be coming to an Amazon near you. You can see me in the trailer twice - in the bar scene, I'm behind the bar looking upset, and near the end I'm the one shooting the guy from the porch. Fun times.

We were never on screen at the same time, but yeah, being in a movie with Isaac Hayes was pretty cool. :)
Just wishlisted Geekomancy. Because I needed another series, especially one that's just getting started. :P

I am happily awaiting book two, though. :)

Yaaaaaaaaaayyy!!!!

^THis is how I felt, too. :-)

ooh! Remeind me of this so I can watch when I get home. :-D
Here's your reminder. How's the finger doing?

The last time I was on vicodin was after gall bladder surgery in 2004. Two days later I was calling the doctor's office asking for a scrip for prescription-strength Ibruprofen. I remember I just kept saying, "Yes, I'm still in pain but they make me stupid! Narcotics aren't fun anymore!" He and his nurse were still laughing about it two follow-up visits later.
Yeah, the movie was fun. The film business is not a world I want to live in, but it's nice to visit once in a while, so I still work on stuff occasionally, like the annual 24 Hour Film competition.

Exactly!!
They make me into zombie! While i've been a constant source of amusement to my friends...in reality its no fun.
Plus, they bind you up. *shudder* (TMI?)
Heh, I had the opposite problem. And I think we're past worrying about TMI - though this is Nyssa's thread so she might feel otherwise. :D

lol!!
We just left her some surprises... ;-)
Bwahahaha! Interestingly, I frequently use the phrase "I try not to sh!t in my own sandbox". I usually use it when people ask why I don't frequent the bars in my own neighborhood, but it applies to this conversation quite nicely.
ROFL! My sincere apologies to your thread. :D

I took that as an invitation and left you a present.

Not sure what I want to read:
1. Finish The Hand of Oberon which I started yesterday.
2. In a Sunburned Country (My Library/Overdrive hold came through today)
3. Catching Fire
4. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (Borrowed from Library/Overdrive yesterday)
5. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (MRBC Selection)
6. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (Which has been waiting patiently on my dresser)
I'm immediately voting against #5 because I can't believe it won the vote in the first place. (I feel like Jon saying that, but it's true. I still pay attention to what goes on in Book Club, on the chance I might want to jump in. I just can't believe that won for Travel / Adventure over the other options.)
With that in mind, #2 would be good since it should have won, but your other library selection, #4, sounds really good, also.
So, either #2 or #4.

I'm glad to know you still keep an eye on the book club; I thought we'd run you off for good. I wish you were willing/able to help us pick the categories as well.
Seemingly within hours of the category nom postings, the ones I would select are always already fully nominated. Then I tend to miss the voting, for some reason. I need to get better at remembering to check to see when the polls are posted.
April is out for me, I haven't been in a classics mood in a long time. I plan to be present for the May and July book noms, and definitely September.

I finished The Iron King earlier today, but decided to read Geekomancy instead of returning to The Hunger Games, just yet. The Hand of Oberon will have to come after that; I'm starting to "lose" Amber, memory wise. Then I'll return to Katniss and Catching Fire
