What's been your favorite read this summer?

Since everyone's catching up on their summer reads, it's time to talk about your favorites... are there any that particularly stand out?

Coming Home: A Story of Undying Hope and In the Presence of My Enemies: A Gripping Account of the Kidnapping of American Missionaries in the Philippine Jungle.

Both made me cry for sure. I love Karen Kingsbury and how she ended the baxter series was great. In the Presence of My Enemies was an awesome biography. Makes you stop and thank God for living in America.

I don't think I could pick a favorite. I'm not reading as many books lately but have been catching up on some NetGalley ones. Looking forward to reading Shattered Silence by Margaret Daley as the first book, Saving Hope was so good! I enjoyed revisiting Dry Creek this summer with Wildflowers for Dry Creek. I'll stop now before I list all of the 10 books or so that I read the last weeks.

Off topic a little...I'm hoping to go from West Valley to East Valley (Phoenix) to see Kim Watters and Pamela Tracy at the B&N this Saturday!

I agree with Jennifer. Coming Home by Karen Kingsbury is probably one of my favorites this summer. She did a fabulous job wrapping up the Baxter series. I could include many others, though. I have enjoyed many good books so far.

I have read some pretty good books this year. I have read mostly fiction with a little non-fiction interspersed. So far it's a toss up between Janet Tronstad's Wildflower Bride for Dry Creek and Cheryl Wyatt's The Doctor's Devotion as far as fiction is concerned. I read When I lay my Isaac Down by Carol Kent--non-fiction and that was probably the most moving book of the summer.

I'm actually picking my Net Galley books right now. My Kindle got stolen a while back, so I bought a new one, and that one broke right away. Amazon was great and sent a new one, but it's been a pain setting up another new kindle. So now that I can read them, I'm loading up on books.



My favorite so far has been Sanctuary for a Lady by Naomi Rawlings. I STILL can't stop thinking about that book.

I actually use Adobe Digital because I have a NOOK. Although I also get the Kindle freebies and read them on my Kindle PC.
I did post a picture of the three of us on Facebook. I don't like my picture taken but I was forced into it. So there is the first thing about those two gals - they forced me into being in a picture, just terrible.
They were both great and I'm glad I bought their books as they were both good reads. Although they did both keep me up until past 1:30 am reading.

I do get rather nervous though and talked their ears off so if Pamela has bandages on her head at the convention in CA a few weeks from now...that would have been from me talking her ears off :-)

We have quite a few authors that live in Arizona. Glynna Kaye lives up the mountain a ways where it don't get so hot.

LOL Judy!! I'm sure Pamela's ears are just fine. They're really sweet. And yes, their books will keep you up all night. I know better than to pick one up too late at night.

It seems lately every book I'm reading keeps me to almost 2:00 am. There just never seems to be a good stopping point!

I did just read A Man of Honor by Loree Lough. I have to be careful not to give anything away, it is an excellent book but I cried a lot. Come to think of it...I have been going through many tissues with all the books I read! It says something about an author when their characters become so real that you "feel" right along with them.

This was sad crying. I couldn't even think about it the next day cuz I cried again. Not as bad as one I read by Gilbert Morris. The guy dies 2 hours before the wife gets to him, after holding on all day. I looked it up and found it was all true and couldn't say Jeb Stuart for 3 days without crying extremely hard.

Oh no!!! Then I don't love it! I don't read sad books! That's why I tend toward Love Inspired or books someone else has read and tells me how it ends. If it's sad, I won't read it!

This series is connected with 9/11 and they are excellent books. They have some real life type situations where not everything comes out rosy. Excellent books but yes but sad situations too.

I have never watched the movie Titanic because it's true life and I know how it ends.

Dream, that's the promise of a romance novel. No matter how sad in the middle, there's always the happy ending.

I loved reading the Three Brides for Three Cowboys trilogy by Linda Ford. I recently discovered my weakness for westerns and these really helped me find that:)

Linda Ford's series is a great one! I really enjoyed it... kept me thinking about the characters for a long time.

I really enjoyed and the Irish Brides series along with a bunch of other great books. I agree with you Dream I don't like reading sad stories. This is why after reading both A Walk to Remember and The Notebook I refuse to read or watch anything by Nicolas Sparks. I loved both stories but both had sad endings.

I agree with you entirely, Laura. After watching and reading The Notebook, I told myself I was done with Sparks. I love A Walk to Remember, though, for some odd reason.

I just recently read a few more books: Hearts in Hiding by Patty Smith Hall, Marriage of Inconvenience by Cheryl Bolen, and The Runaway Bride by Noelle Marchand. Bolen's is my fave of the 3 since I love matchmaker(-ish) stories. On top of it all, there was letter writing used to reveal more of themselves to each other. (I'm a sucker for letters- sending and receiving)

I just finished reading Love Inspired Fresh-Start Ranch by Leann Harris. Leann is a new author to me and I loved this touching story. Couldn't ask for more than the hunky hero Ethan, who works with a local horse rescue group. That's my kind of guy.

I'm reading them out of order>< but I enjoy them nonetheless...the Fitzgerald Bay Series is really good too, if you haven't read them:) I can't wait for the Texas K-9 series!
