Astridae (sarahinova) | 11 comments Anyone out there in the Boston or surrounding area wanna have a meet up? I know there are some of you in the VF group.

message 2: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kgreene978) | 16 comments I'd be interested. I'm north of the city, but willing to drive if necessary :)

message 3: by Astridae (new)

Astridae (sarahinova) | 11 comments I actually live out on the Cape so there's some drive for me too involved.

message 4: by Astridae (new)

Astridae (sarahinova) | 11 comments If we can find a couple more people I suppose we could organize a group meetup in Boston, possibly a at a coffee shop or at the commons weather permitting.

I've been to quite a few meetups there and it's always a great location for these types of events.

message 5: by erin (new)

erin (kremdelacreme) I'm about 30ish miles northwest of Boston near the Nashua NH/Lowell area. But I'd be interested!

message 6: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 36 comments I'd be interested too. I live in the north shore area so a trip to boston is easy for me.

message 7: by Erica (new)

Erica (blondechick80) I live out in Western Ma so a drive out isn't very practical for me

message 8: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments Erica wrote: "I live out in Western Ma so a drive out isn't very practical for me"

I'm in Western MA as well, Erica. I'd be down for finding a meet up location, been hoping to find some more VF peeps in the area (course "in Western MA" could still mean a long drive).

message 9: by Erica (last edited Aug 21, 2012 04:13AM) (new)

Erica (blondechick80) lol, true. I am in Greenfield. I have discovered that none of the picks this month are available as e-books or audiobooks from the library :( so I haven't read a single on this month

message 10: by Astridae (new)

Astridae (sarahinova) | 11 comments Oh my god, I was thinking for a while that an MA group would be impossible, so glad there are more of us now.I'm moving out to Norton, which makes Boston much closer for me now.

I know western MA always ends up an issue for people, We could have two group or one where we have multiple meetups in different locations to maximize accessibility. Or maybe if we can't meetup in life we could have our own G+ hangout.

message 11: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Hakala (hak42) | 8 comments I'm up in Seacoast NH, but I'd be interested in meeting up with VF folks in MA.

Erica - we do have a few print copies of the books at least (I know b/c I ILL'd them)! But we're so limited on the publishers that will sell us ebooks. One thing that is worth it if it is a publisher that sells to OverDrive is to get a Boston Public Library e-card and check out their ebook collection as well, they've got some books we don't have in CWMARS.

If you want to request them for yourself:
Master of None (only one copy, I just returned it today which is why it's In Transit)
http://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/record...

Ill Wind (8 copies on this record, second record with a few more copies kicking around)
http://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/record...

Oracle's Moon (3 copies)
http://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/record...

(I might do this every day at work... :D)

I did start a separate thread for Western MA looking for ppl wanting to do a in person meet up.

message 13: by Erica (last edited Aug 23, 2012 05:36AM) (new)

Erica (blondechick80) Boston doesn't have them either, I looked! What?! You mean I might actually need to enter a library?! When next months come out next week hopefully I can get those

message 14: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (joggiwagga) | 276 comments If its published by Penguin we can no longer get ebooks from them, we also cannot get anything by several other publisher.

As a side note I actually sent someone who orders ebooks for overdrive to this group as a source of suggested titles :D

message 15: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 36 comments it looks like the mass group is split up into two groups. for those of us in the boston/nh area are we still planning on meeting up for this month?

if we want to keep it to one MA group, that google + hangout sounds like a good idea if we can't meet up this month.

message 16: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kgreene978) | 16 comments Or we could try a central location, like the Worcester area, so that everyone has to drive a bit. I have many friends in that area, so I'm used to driving at least that far west on a somewhat regular basis.

I'd be up for anything. I work in Boston, so obviously staying closer to the city is a bit easier for me :)

message 17: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Hakala (hak42) | 8 comments Worcester area would be good for me, as I have family down there.

message 18: by Astridae (new)

Astridae (sarahinova) | 11 comments I guess it really depends on what people are willing to drive. The G+ Hangout would be good for those of us who have obligations to keep track of and/or can't drive out for various reasons.

message 19: by Rosie (new)

Rosie Fitzgerrel | 5 comments I live in Rhode Island and would be willing to drive to MA for a hangout, if there are enough people interested.

message 20: by Megan (new)

Megan Sutton | 1 comments Boston! I'd love to see this happen. I live smack dab in the city.

message 21: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 18 comments I live in Somerville, MA. If a Boston event happens, count me in!

message 22: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 36 comments It seems like there is more of us now, so we should try to set this up?

Maybe after the holidays since I'm going to take a guess that most of are going to be busy this month.

message 23: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 36 comments Sharon wrote: "I live in Somerville, MA. If a Boston event happens, count me in!"

I used to live in Medford! if you are interested in SF film, they have a SF marathon during president's day at the movie theater in Davis Square. I went there last year and it was really fun.

*SO* much fun! I love the theater in Davis.

message 25: by Ravencrantz (new)

Ravencrantz I'm about 20 minutes outside of the city. It'd be a lot of fun if I could make it to a meet up :)

message 26: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 18 comments I was wondering if anybody around here was going to PAX East? Maybe we could try and meet up!

message 27: by Caiti (new)

Caiti J (caiticlu) | 19 comments I would be interested in a meetup, I am in the Lowell area.

message 28: by Corrina (new)

Corrina Lawson | 54 comments What about at Boston Comic Con in August?

message 29: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 18 comments Ohh! That could work for me. Comic Con is August 3-4, right?

message 30: by Corrina (new)

Corrina Lawson | 54 comments Yes, that weekend! At the Seaport Convention Center.

message 31: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (redheadedjen) | 1 comments I live in Quincy and just discovered this when I was watching tabletop.

message 32: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 18 comments I'm not sure if there has been a Boston meetup yet. I think that there is some interest in meeting up, but nothing organized... yet!

message 33: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 36 comments I'm still interested too!

message 34: by Mariko (last edited Dec 14, 2013 07:32PM) (new)

Mariko True (MarikoTrue) | 32 comments I am interested in a book club meet-up and will also be attending Boston Comic Con - August 8-9-10, 2014 at the Seaport Trade Center. I live out in the ‘burbs (Norfolk County--eastern Massachusetts). I am seemingly immune to GPS, google maps, and garmins, so in deference to the safety of the citizens of Massachusetts, I limit my driving. So hope to see VF group members in August.

message 35: by Sharon (last edited Jan 07, 2014 08:54AM) (new)

Sharon | 18 comments I think that we should try and meet up since there has been some activity lately and the holiday season is over. I feel like it might be easier to try and organize something, weather permitting of course!

I don't know about others, but I live in Somerville so anywhere in Boston is pretty easy for me to get to. What about others?

message 36: by Minsta (new)

Minsta | 93 comments If the meet up is in Salem we could come up with an interesting name for the group!

If this works out I will try to join you all. I usually attend Anime Boston (sometime in March this year) but I am not sure about this year. I have not been to Boston Comic Con but if there is a meet up at that time I will try to get there.

message 37: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 36 comments I'm still interested as well. Boston area is a good meet up place for me. I'll be working Anime Boston and I'll be going to 'Thon in Somerville too if people want to meet up

message 38: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 18 comments Does anybody have any suggestions as to where we should meet? I've only thought of Deluxe Diner which is a steampunk restaurant in Newton (I think). I'm sure there are tons of places that would be acceptable and I'm just drawing a blank!

message 39: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 18 comments Is anybody going to be at PAX East this year? It is only two weeks away!

message 40: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 36 comments I think somewhere around netwon is fine for a meetup
I've never been to a steam punk restaurant. That sounds cool. Maybe we should do a poll of who is still interested in a local Boston hangout?

message 41: by Mariko (new)

Mariko True (MarikoTrue) | 32 comments Still interested, but unfortunately not going to Pax East. Am going to Boston Comic Con in August.

message 42: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 9 comments I was trying to read through the messages but I couldn't tell if there is a meetup happening in the Boston area. I am from the Cambridge/Somerville area.

message 43: by Mariko (last edited Apr 08, 2014 03:14PM) (new)

Mariko True (MarikoTrue) | 32 comments I will be escaping my dwelling in the suburbs to go to Boston on April 19 to see Aisha Tyler’s standup at The Wilbur. Not sure of book club friendly meeting spots, but there is a coffee house called “Thinking Cup” right near The Wilbur Theater. Never been there, maybe I can investigate. With negative driving skills, but with superior abiity to misunderstand Siri, getting to places not next to “T” locations is problematic for me.

message 44: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 9 comments I believe that the Thinking Cup is right next to the Common at the Park Street T stop.

message 45: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 18 comments Thinking Cup is right next to the commons and is close to the T and Wilbur Theater!

If there are only a few people the Thinking Cup would work... or we could just get coffee there and go outside (if it is nice).

message 46: by Romina (new)

Romina (rominibeani) | 20 comments I live on the Northshore too and would love to meet in Boston. Also if there are other pple on the Northshore, a Northshore meetup would be fun to add too.

message 47: by Alina (new)

Alina (alinabee) | 3 comments I live over in Cambridge, so Boston is just right over the bridge so I can take the T.

message 48: by Mariko (new)

Mariko True (MarikoTrue) | 32 comments Read the YELP on Thinking Cup. The reviews seem to lean towards a great experience with great products, but available seating is limited. The Common is close by, but weather could dampen any book talk. I heard that there is a multiple story (levels not literature--I love puns) Starbucks in Harvard Square, has anyone been there?

message 49: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 9 comments I have been there. Depending on when Harvard has their finals it is pretty easy to find seating.

message 50: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 9 comments I did a bit of research. It looks like Harvard has finals from May 9th - 17th so the might be packed the week before finals start and them will ease up as finals period ends.

I don't know if that changes anyone's mind for the location.
