I just finished this book the other day. I am on the fence with this book.
Mainly I am disappointed that it was an easy, fast read. Then again I don't find many challenging books anymore. I wish there was more to it.
I really loved that it was unique and not the typical love story. The friendship is what would draw me into book 2.

I read this book, all six actually, during the Passover vacation.(Spring time.) I was definitely obsessed with it(still am, though slightly more relaxed now). It is definitely one of the best books I've ever read.

The romance was original, not like other YA paranormal books, and the whole theme was very thought out and organized, not like other vampire books in most ways. The characters were all very good and Rose isn't the usual helpless heroine you see or the uber-nothing-can-hurt-me character, but a normal not-so-human being, a confused teenager, smart but not too clever, not blind to the obvious and it's actually obvious why so many guys fall for her for once, unlike an unnamed heroine from Twilight(ehm, ehm, Bella, ehm, ehm.).
Really, compared to every other YA and paranormal I ever read, this one is one of the very best! No character is too alike and during the whole series you want to know what's going to happen next. I have a good sort of chest pain that I feel when reading a good book and wanting to know the end, and I felt it the whole time.

I was disappointed with the ending as well. I would almost prefer (view spoiler)[ a sad ending instead of the one she wrote, because it just seemed too . . . . I don't know, casual maybe? Can't think of a good word. I was also disappointed that Rose didn't see Dimitri's sister again. (hide spoiler)]

I'm sure they find out eventually. After all, there wasn't exactly much time for anybody to talk to them inbetween.
