Do I need to read this series in order?

I read the first 5 in this series and just couldn't go on. I would like to read Acheron, but do I need to read the other books first?

No they all stand alone pretty much but they do reference other books but nothing major that would take away from the story you are reading. Acheron is the best of them all. By far my favorite of the entire series and I stopped reading them after this one.

I personally would read them in order because they do build on each other. I accidentally read one book out of order and was so confused because a character suddenly had a daughter. But if you were only going to read one--then Archeron's book will stand alone.

I would read them in order up to Acheron's book...the stories build on each other until his. Acheron was awesome and his story was long awaited....some of the books are stand alones- but they do reveal pieces of Ash's history, so to best enjoy them I would start at the beginning. Happy Reading! :)

Agreed. His story was so hard to read, but impossible to put down.

I'm okay with reading a rough history. Do you think it's harder than Zsadists story. That was a tough one to read.

Ohhh yeah to me his is harder than Zadists, but has just as good of an ending

Yes his is harder then Z's but the ending is really good. You get a lot more detail about his life then you do about Z's

I started with the second book in the series. Some are read alone as the characters are new without alot of "other" character involvement. But I would read them in order anyways. Jaden. Awesome character but his story unfolds in the series. From one book to the next. Plus the Acheron story I think is best read from the beginning. Book one onward. The suspense rocks!!

If you want to read the first 1/2 of Acheron it will not make much difference (jsut keep a kleenex near by), but the second half will. Read them in order and you'll get the most out of the series. Each book is seperate but the overall story arc continues from one to the other, just the main focus changes. When I'm reading a book in a series that is not too good I skim along to keep it going and finish the book.

I would definately side with Acheron's story being sadder. Z's is sad/bruttle but Acheron's is heart wrenching. I think it was because of who was doing the punishment/torture/beatings.

I actually started this series out of order. They do stand alone and can be read that way, but i think in order for some is better. Gives a better idea of why something may have happened in a previous book. That being said, Ash can be on it's own easily. Agree on all, first 1/2 is sad, but it gets better. Have re-read many of these books just becuase the characters are so loveable!

Yes its definitely sadder than Z's story, it's amazing after all that happen he still has a conscience. It is not strictly necessary to read DH stories in order but it would help in your enjoyment if you will read at least a couple of the previous books first. It will definitely make the first part of Acheron easier to handle. The others are right the series peaked at Acheron. Jayden and Jared seem to be interesting, Jayden is like AshII. It's a pity but Sherrilyn Kenyon seem to be going a different direction with her DH series.

The last book or two felt forced. Writing for a character that shouldn't have been written about or should have been a short story instead makes it feel that way. It's almost like too much is going on and the core is not getting taken care of.

I agree, I have no interest in this new book and got the audio cd for the last one. Dark hunters have spiraled into????

the best series are the first 15 books...hands down, anything that goes before the book of Ash. pick any book even if its not in chronological order.. but after the book of Acheron everything goes spiral and you'll get lost..:)happy reading..

I don't think you have to, but if you have all books it makes probably better reading as it would be a continous story line. I am sure I haven't read all Dark Hunter stories yet but I read Acheron. I liked it but it was tough reading and yes I agree with a few here before me I was weeping too. After that I had a couple of days where I did not read another book. This one had to settle first. (Try reading SK league series and look for Darling - that's pain too) At the moment I am working myself through the were hunters and dream hunters and the gods and I have Time Untime at home but I haven't read those yet, they are on my TBR pile.
