How to Find the ISBN
date

Older books did not have ISBNs. Until the 60s-70s???? I always forget the date. Rivka and others will know. I Capture the Castle has lots of editions. You might want to search them by date/year to see if yours is in the database. If it isn't you can add it manually and then combine it with the other editions. If you do add it manually, add as much information as it contains. I put old Library of Congress numbers and any other information in the book description field when I manually add an old book. Here's the wikipedia article on ISBNs:

Mosca, the ISBN was only developed in the 1960s, so your book (unless it's on time travel) can't have one! You might find, though, that the publisher kept it in print and added an ISBN to the printing once it was available, so if you find an Atlantic Monthly Press edition that looks right, it may have an ISBN in our database. If there aren't any copies in the database that seem to match, you can always add the information for yours manually -- but please do check for existing editions first!(ISBNs are always numbers-only, and always either ten or thirteen digits, by the way. BXT (595) 4/73 might be a cataloging note from the library.)
Thank you both. I am not certain how to add it manually. I do know that if I attempt to "combine" it, I recieve a notice that it requires librarian status or privileges, which I don't suppose I have.I am still new to Goodreads and am uncertain about a number of protocols.
Any advice?
Mosca,You can manually add a book from this page:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/new
Make sure to click the save button after you've added in all your information.
After you've added it, you can post in the GR Librarians group and ask a librarian to combine it for you.

This edition does not seem to be in the Goodreads library. The best I can do with the ISBN is a pencil note inside--BXT (595) 4/73. The handwriting is such that I am not exactly sure of all the letters/numerals. I am not even certain that this note is the ISBN.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how one could properly identify this edition and ISBN?
Thanks in advance for any observations.
