Cheri | 795 comments I like to read trash in the summer.

message 3: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Not really. Sometimes I read books by authors from the country I'm going to on vacation, but that's it.

Sarah | 13814 comments The town in which I spent 12 summers had a one-room library. It had one shelf of new books - in those days, generally the latest John Irving - and after that most of the books had been around for a couple of decades. I read a ton of classic SF and mysteries and horror: Stranger in a Strange Land, Jaws, Fletch, etc.
Anyway, that's what I think of when I think of "summer reading" but I don't adhere to it anymore. My reading isn't particularly seasonal.

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments I think my reading habits are pretty much the same year-round. I might pick up a little more fluff than usual for a beach read, but I would also do that if I were going on vacation in December. I've also been known to read dry nonfiction at the beach, so...

Nothing changes in the summer, no. If I'm going to the beach specifically, I might pick up some exciting adventure reads (e.g. The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea), but I don't go to beach-only destinations all that much.

Jim | 6484 comments Not a seasonal reader at all. I read what I have available to read.

message 8: by Annette (new)

Annette Hart | 172 comments Sometimes I use holiday time to reread favourites - I can put it up and down easily in order to make a sandcastle, cook tea, rescue a child from the water...

Amy Neftzger (neftzger) | 304 comments I don't think my reading habits change with the seasons at all, but we don't usually take summer vacations (husbands work schedule is too busy).

I wonder if summer reading habits change for students who have more time to read during that time or for people who only read when they're on vacation.

message 10: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Hodges (jacquelinenicole) What I read doesn't change at all in the summer because I will read most anything. However, I do get more reading done because I don't have classes to worry about. Well, I usually don't unless I decide to take a summer class but I don't often.

As usual my summer reading is just as random as my fall, winter, and spring reading.
