Gillespie & I - Progress and non-spoiler thread

So who's in? Any first impressions? How do you like Harriet and the Gillespie family at the start of the book?

I started this yesterday. As a first impression, I'd have to say I'm not over keen on any of them. They're all a bit weird lol. I've heard really good things about this book, though, so I'm more than happy to carry on :)

I don't think finding the characters a bit weird is going to spoil your enjoyment!

It doesn't seem to be :) It actually reminds me a bit of , which I absolutely loved. I'm really enjoying it so far -- I'm just wishing I didn't have so many jobs to apply for atm, so that I could read more.

I haven't read The Little Stranger, so can't comment on any similarities, though I have read Affinity by Sarah Waters (which I loved), and can see a slight resemblence in style, though Harris is less serious I think.

I got a used hardback from Amazon, my it's such a big book! I'm reading 100YofS at the moment, but hope to start this one in the next week or so.

I LOVE Sarah Waters, so glad to know there's similarities :)

So should I start this next, or should I read the hunger games? I want a page turner...

The Hunger Games is a page turner, but you don't really need to engage your brain very much. This is a much better book, but if you're in the mood for something totally undemanding then you might rather read HG first and then read this when you fancy an atmospheric twisty turny puzzler!

Thanks Sophia it was just what I needed! I devoured every page of the three books over the weekend. I'm at a loss now, read a few pages of put it down :s tried think I need the kids to be in bed for that one. So now I'm trying going ok so far... :)
